What if you don't "use" companions?

I have my favorite three companions and really don't use the others.   I level them up in camp but that's all unless a trigger a personal quest then I do that.  (My three companions are Zevran, Allistair, Morrigan)

Will this effect my end game in a bad way?

It will effect it in ways to do with Zevran, as if he leaves or keeps with you, which is clearly effected by the choices you make with him in the party.

All it would do is limit side quests, random encounters and convosation starters. (Wynne with the fainting and the calling of the Spirit as an example of random encounters, and Sten won't have anything to talk about).

Don't worry it is nothing bad, everyone has a certain party that works best for them, mine is Wynne, Zevran/Sten and Alistair. So no, it won't affect your end game in a bad way.

I take them out occasionally to level them up, give them presseys and equipment, then take them straight back to Camp and continue with my usual team. Those party members at Camp take part in the Final Battle and will obviously perform better if kitted out properly and levelled up with the best stats possible.

You can level up everyone in camp.

Mindyerbeak (good name!) I do the same thing as you. When I get good equipment I level them up in camp and put the stuff on. I do give them presents also.

Last night I took Morrigan's assessment of Wynne being a "preachy school-marm" and killed her. This is the 1st time in 8 games I've done that. I don't know what the implications of that will be.

I like to mix my teams, taking out characters who might be interesting according to where in the game I am. However, you really don't miss much by picking three favorites and leaving everyone else in camp. Remember to level them now and then and grab equipment for them, and talk to them if you feel like maybe taking them out on their personal quests.

I like to mix my party too, the only character who is always in my team is Shale because she is crazy strong and hilarious

How would you do that, kind sir? I see no options to level them up. If I try and click on them I'm required to talk to them. It would be much easier if that were possible and I'm obviously missing something.

You can indeed level up and/or equip your party members in camp. Bring up the equipment screen and select the character in question (on 360 by using LB/RB).

Leveling Up in camp is done exactly the same as it is everywhere else; however, in camp, you have access to everyone, instead of just the 3 you take with you.

As for as the OP goes, when you get some items, I'd go back to camp and kit any party members you're not using out with the best stuff you've found. The small portion when control switches from your main party to the others is much easier when they're not all naked.

I like the conversations between Shale and Morrigan. I laughed the first time I heard Shale call her a swamp witch.

My first play I stuck with Alistair, Wynne and Leliana. I still talked to the others, leveled them, gave them gifts, equipped them and did some of their quests. In the end no one hated me or anything.

It is a matter of personal preference as i hate Morrigan she would stay in camp and i would not even level her up or gifts etc. It does not matter any way with Morrigan as she leaves you in the end unless you agre to her DR so i see no point in bothering with her since i do not like her anyway. Just a little bit agoe a poster told me how to remove Morrigan from my party at Lotharin and since that moment i have always sent Morrigan packing at Lotharin and there is no detrimental effect to the game or party mechanics, well i do not have to deal with Morrigan in aly way which i consider a large bonus.
