Battling Flemeth was pretty epic, and after all the work I ended up with a potion and some robes for Morrigan. I hope the grimmoire makes up for my loot deficiencies..

Unfortunately, what you killed was not a dragon. It was Flemeth. She simply shape-shifted into a dragon, very much like mages can shapeshift into bears and spiders. Obviously, she is more powerful than normal mages, which explains her ability to change into a dragon.
Without spoiling the game too much, I will tell you there is a dragon you may fight, and the rewards lead to obtaining the best armor in the game.
