It's interesting that in all of the upcoming patch notes thusfar, there has been no mention of a fix for imported characters showing up in Awakenings naked.
While I understand the whole DLC equipment issue, surely the intent couldn't have been for your character to be walking through the start of awakening in his or her skivvies.
Generic equipment substitutions were likely the intent and not fixing this blatantly obvious bug would be unforgiveable.

Not everybody has DLC gear.  Everything in the base game DA:Origins will import to Awakening.  Yes, it would be nice if all DLC gear imported across, but it's not a game-breaker.  Just inconvenient.Image IPB

It's not a bug; the intent was that people load up their post ending save, swap out the equipment that wouldn't transfer, save and import that save. That's what they told us to do when it was first announced that the DLCs wouldn't import way back in December.

Zy-El - agreed, it would be nice if it worked, however as I posted, I understand that it doesn't... and that's fine... if the non-working gear is automatically swapped out with generic stuff.

ladydesire - I disagree. I distinctly remember reading a Bioware forum post that the intent was to automatically swap out the gear, but it wasn't working as intended. But I can't prove that as I can't find the post without extensive looking. With that said, for people that don't frequent the forums and they import their origins character in to awakening, what would you say to them?
Putting the equipment swapping responsibility on to the player is a lazy workaround at best... and is something that Bioware should be able to do better.  Would all players be able to remember where they picked up every piece of gear, so they would know what to swap?  Would all players be carrying "substitute" gear that they even *could* swap out?   The logic in the workaround is flawed.

again off topic....i was preparing my game,

reinstalling origins and then i tried to apply patch 1.03, the dos screen came up to verify my game amd it was trucking along then out of the blue my pc just restarted. I was doign this yesterday and i thought i had a bad hard drive so i installed another and re-installed the os...windows 7 64 bits...brand spanking new..yet again when i tried to update, it crashed my pc...i restarted again and tried and that time it went...but i am not 100% sure if it did not affect the original install in a negative way...

i asked in the tech forum about this, no one seem to have an answer...i ll recheck my post....did this ever happen to you...no game i have ever owned crashed my pc like this....

Bruno how's your power source.  I am not a techie by any means, but the only times my computer has restarted on me, is when my power supply was dying. (happened to me twice over the years)    Just thought I'd mention.

Well i tought of that too...i have checked event id and got the event id 41 in windows 7....i tought it may have been my hard drive that was just going away...so i swapped it with a new one i had and rebuilt wiht a fresh install if windows 7...

the strange thing is that when i patch, the patch goes and does the check then at some random point it is gonna crash my pc. when the check is being done, my had drive squeals like it is going in overdrive then when the patching is done , it stops if the patching works....the hard drive does not do this in any other shape or form with any other software on my pc.

only the patch crashes my pc...origins installs just fine.

If my PSU was bad it would crash more frequently...i left it running overnight listening to a Robin Williams show and when i wake up the machine is still going on.

I have changed my mobo and cpu a few weeks ago...so i am not entirely sure if the crash would be caused by this...

it could end up being many things or just the patch...at this point i cant pinpoint the problem properly...i would hate for my new mobo and cpu to end up being junk...  Image IPB

Having read through the confirmed bug fixes, these stand out:
• Switching between Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Awakening were resetting options to default settings.

Previously reported:
• Fixed an issue that would prevent an imported character from detecting traps.
• Power of Blood talent will be usable in Awakening.

It would appear that they are addressing importing issues between Origins and Awakening.  One can only hope that they are working on the DLC gear import bugs.  Image IPB

Bruno - do not install patch 1.03 onto Origins. Unless you also install Awakening and in that case, let Awakening install patch 1.03 since it has the patch bundled with it.

I'd say that the developers didn't have enough time to program all of the DLC items to be transferable through Awakening. That some items from DLC, more specifically "Return to Ostagar" DLC is transferable, just makes my answer more legit. If it is a design choice, which it could be of course, then i must ask "why?" We all know that you will find and make better items in the expansion pack, but that's not a good enough answer to me.

RTO was a long time for what exactly? Awakening & Darkspawn chronicles was rushed and so much problems with both, Wardens keep, Shale and Blood dragon DLCs r ok, seems like this new DLC (NOT SAYING THE NAME) is going to be rushed like the other new ones.

Why take so long like with this patch? Or are you trying not to rush that whilst rushing the DLCs out the way?

Considering how long this has taken so far, I wouldn't be surprised if they called the patch "Their newest DLC" and forced people to pay for it x_X

UGh...I'm just frustrated with how long this is taking.

yes i am upset too about how long it has taken BIo to admit the problems and to actually do anything about them. I also will give them the benfit of the doubt so far as they redeem themselves by pulling out a rabbit out of the hat and actually "really" do a big comprehensive patch...mmm how many times have i said this already...well cross our fingers i guess..

*ROFL*

So I´ve written in a lot of other threads - that this has taken way too long. Im also curious where if ever released this patch will be found since it was damn hard to find the orginal patches - ingame through menu would have been nice  instead of via browser and some obscure link on this webbpage...

But once again and I submit that Im being lazy now - has anyone, anywhere seen a date for this LONG awaited patch?

Please note that I (and a lot of friends playing the game) - we had no serious issues what so ever (or even worth mentioning) in the orignal game if  we compare with the many bugs in Awakening (some of us including myself couldn´t even finish the game cause (for example) one very infamous door that remained locked, no matter what).
So, please focus on fixing the expansion!

I aint even bothering to finish the original at this point and dunno if I can be arsed to play through darkspawn chronicles yet either due to the combat lag which makes combat 2-3 times harder.. yes, even on low gfx settings(In 1.02 I was on max settings with no prob) and no dlcs installed.

It was fine pre-1.03 so I hope they fix it in 1.04. Its the one fix I really want.

There are no random encounters in DA:O. The vast majority are scripted, the remainder occur as a result of a percentage chance occurance while roaming the world map. Eventually, you can and WILL kill everything there is to kill. After that there's no more enemies. So no, your assertion is wrong.

Hate to argue with you, but you're wrong.  Random encounters happen when traveling from location to location.  To quote Prima's Official Game Guide:

snip

If you need further proof, I will retype each Random Encounter (skipping the World & Plot Encounters) just so you can be satisfied.  Image IPB

I'm not wrong. You're arguing semantics and the meaning of words and I knew this discussion would end up here. This is the same thing as trying to define what a turn-based game is and what a real-time based game is. Everything THINKS one thing but the literal definition is very different.

Explanation: By "random" encounters you are implying a persistent world population of monsters that is infinite. An example of this would be an RPG like say.....Final Fantasy. Monsters constantly respawn on the "world map" and you can fight an infinite number of battles, generally never clearing out areas permanently. In these games you can always reach "maximum level", whatever that may be, because there's always something for you to fight.

DA does not employ this system. Battles in this game DO NOT follow the description of random stated above. There are no respawns in this game (though one area will become populated one additional time with different monsters but that's it). All encounters in this game take place ONE TIME and ONE TIME ONLY. Look that up in your guide. You cannot re-enter an area and fight the monsters again. Once dead, they're DEAD. The number of monsters in this game is FINITE, not infinite.

In fact it's been specifically stated by the devs that a person playing all the DLC up through and including RtO, doing every possible quests, and killing every possible monster will eventually reach a level between 18 and 23 by the end of the game. Without using things like the party chests in camp or the console on the PC to boost your XP (or other glitches/exploits as they may be), there is no way to reach max level (25) by normal means. This also means that the amount of gold in the game is also limited by these same rules.

The "meaning" of words has a funny way of distorting arguments in any direction.

Wicked...

Hate to burst your bubble but you must have misunderstood what the devs meant.

I will tlel you now, FACT, that if you do every quest in the game, all side quests, kill pretty much everything you see, WILL be just over level 24. To hit max, use the party camp chest for your armies to hit 25 (which is not a cheat, the devs put that IN the game for us)....

Exactly, Mavi.. That's how I hit 25 before the final battle, without using mods, DLC, or cheats on my first playthrough. At the time, I had no idea how to "cheat" in DA (nor did I know anything about mods at the time) and didn't have any DLC.. So.. Yea lol

You're agreeing with me, not refuting my point. Read what I wrote again.....slowly. At no point do I refer to the party chest as a cheat or an exploit. But there are cheats/exploits, as noted in my SEPARATE paranthetical reference, like the darkspawn blood quest in Ostagar on the console versions. I didn't think it necessary to spell that out in this discussion.

The only correction you have is that the level that can be reached through quests, enemies, etc. (playing the game) is 24 instead of 23. Fantastic, you still prove my point that maximum level cannot be reached by those means and that the number of enemies in the game is finite. Thanks again.

Is English your second language? We seem to be arguing grammatical differences here.

Or are you just going to arrogantly sit there without actually making a point?

Ahh.. But level 25 CAN be reached without mods, cheats, ect.. That's what I was getting at lol.. But no, monsters don't respawn. Wicked was right with that one. Once it's dead, it's dead for good.

*Cough*Hit 25 without DLC*Cough* :)

*thinks very long and hard*

Ok, Looking at some of your other posts, I'm assuming your not English, unlike myself. So actually, English would be 'your' second language, and not mine.

That being said, two people have now proved/posted that you can hit the max level quite easily, using no DLC and no cheats, but, that seems to not be enough for you, as your still ranting and raving over something or other (sorry I switched off and stopped reading what you were posting). So I'm beggining to wonder which part of 'you can hit max level easily' your really not grasping. Maybe its all of it, I don't know...quite frankly now, I don't care either.

And on that, I'd love to chat and annoy you further, but I need to wash my hair. Night lovey :)

*cough* It's you're, not your....by the way. I live in California, born and raised.

We're clearly arguing grammar here. I made no such claim, as you've outlined here, in any of my posts. I'm sorry if you are having trouble seeing that but it's a fact. For the last time, I said:

A person doing quests, killing monsters, and completing all the DLC cannot reach level 25. (One sentence)...
(Next sentence) To do so the person must either use the party chests or use some other means (cheat/exploit) like the console or (other means).

We're apparently agreeing here yet you seem to think you're presenting different information. Perhaps you're wording it differently, but it's the same information. (Save for the level 23 vs. 24 issue.) I really wasn't trying to get into an argument with you but when a person says "2+2=4" and somebody else comes in and says, "no it's not....it's really 2+2=4" then it's really hard not to point out that there's either a grammatical issue or a comprehension issue or a little of both.
