That's right, folks, a new challenge now that the other is in the voting stages.

Here's how it goes: this is a challenge of pure creativity.  I write up a quick scenario and you create a party of up to nine - that's right, 9 - charcters.  These characters can be of any race, class, gender or background of your choosing; whoever you think makes up the best fellowship.  But that's not all.  Included in creating this large party give each of your characters a short biography.  This can include personality, background, skill, why they're in the party, whatever you want which you feel describes who the character is.  You are not limited by the in-game origins.  Want to create a Silent Sister or Dalish Keeper?  Have at it.  But you do have to keep to the lore of the setting.  So no Drow from Westeros who rides dragons and wields the Schwartz.  Is your party heroic?  Evil?  In it for the money?  Looking for their own ends?  All up to you within the given scenario and setting

We'll end the contest at 11/1 after 11:59 Eastern.  There we can judge the posted parties as a whole , place a poll for the best among us and hopefully have a clear winner by everyone's favorite day: November 3rd.  Remember, this isn't a prettiest person contest.  This is about who can create the best of the best characters, from in-game artistry to writing.  So have it at.

The scenario is as follows: It is well into the Dragon Age.  An army has popped up seemingly from nowhere deep into the southwest just beyond the borders to Fereldan.  Wilders and citizens alike have fled, causing further trouble for those within the country and there are rumors of a powerful blood mage who is taking control of people one by one in hopes of gathering an army powerful enough to march northward.  A call to aid has been sent out to find the truth of this disturbance and bring a halt to any threat which might be coming, and with it a substantial monetary reward.

Here be my little group: social.bioware.com/1906/albums/18174

Have fun, ladies and gents.

UPDATE

Love the sound of this challenge. I'll be sure to try and enter myself. However, I have feeling so many people are going to enter, voting for the best fellowship is going to be a complete and utter pain in the rear!

I'm not so sure of that. While it was fun to create the characters and their stories, this is pretty hard and time consuming compared to 'simpler' threads like 'post your best looking character' or even the other challenge-thread, sans story.

Anyway, i feel like this deserves a /push and hope for more submissions

Not bad. Very diverse group. Also like the groupings within the group.

Thanks, but i guess my writing is lacking. English isn't my first language and i came up with the individual characters before i tried to connect them to the main plot, so I guess I ended up with a little too much mercenary-motivations there.
Anyway, it was fun

Edit: More Contestants please. Come on people, don't be shy=]

Two questions:

1) Are there any rules regarding portrait vs CC screenshot entries?
2) Is the scenario you posted the one we all have to subscribe to, or are we supposed to come up with our own scenario that our characters are responding to?

I don't know , the part about having to create a short backstory kinda turned me off; just because of time issues and I haven't read any of the books or anything.

So I wouldn't be surprised if there are like 10 or so as opposed to 40.

Just in case the OP doesn't respond to this right away. He might correct me if i'm wrong

1) With the OP using portraits, i guess everything goes (as i consider CC screenshots to be 'more' than portraits)
2) I guess the OP's scenario is a given, but we won't have to strictly reply to it. It makes for a better comparability, so we should stick to 'going to where the fun is' but who, how and why is completely up to our own imagination

1) As long as it's from the CC it's good.  So portraits or screenshots, but no photoshop.
2) It's simply a basic scenario of why your group might be together or what they are currently doing.  Perhaps they've been together longer, perhaps not.  You don't even have to mention it if you wish.

hmm my group isn't at its ideal, but I figured this thread deserved a bump. My basic concept was one of a group of very morally questionable individuals working in secret for the Chantry. Sort of like DC's suicide squad but replace government with Chantry

Image IPB
is meant to be the link for the group to the Chantry. A man who use to be publicly influential who went too far off the deep end. And now has the chore of leading misfits around.

Image IPB

Somewhat charming in a rugged way. He serves as the leader of the group. Unfortunately he is a sicko with cannibalistic tendencies.

Image IPB
An outcast even amongst the Dalish. This guy is the group's trap expert. He bears scars from a "fire experiment" gone awry.

Image IPB
A charming socialpath of sorts. The rogue of the group. A noble who turned assassin to fulfill some sadistic tendencies.

Image IPB
Image IPB
Two Dwarven Brothers who escaped their homeland, not favoring the life of servitude they were bound to. They are mostly paid muscle but they also provide most if not all of the morality in the group.

Image IPB

An extremely emotionally unstable young girl. She was plucked away from the Templars by (TOP) old dude before they could severe her link to the Fade.

Extremely dangerous but kind. The two dwarves look after her the most. But most of the other members see her as a kid sister of sorts (even the cannibal).

Admittedly I need to get screenshots up (they look better) and it would be nice if I had the toolset - so I could give them matching black garb.

Yay, another submission. Thanks for the bump.

I can see the chosen personalities in many of them, especially their eyes. Good job.

I especially like the first one and the second dwarf

album is up. Some of them look a bit better in CC than in portrait view.

Yeah the second dwarf is more unique then the first. Unfortunaetly the first one ended up looking (imo) like a Dwarven version of Duncan.

I wanted him to have a beard but not in the traditional sense. And the closest available was Duncan-esque.

Girl was tough, because I wanted her to have a ghost like look. So sunken-in cheeks and white-ish hair. But still look like a teenager basically. I don't think it worked entirely.

Same with the pretty (male) sociopath, I wanted a slightly dark edge to the guy. But its hard to do without also making him look older.

Well, here's my submission. Took an hour or three to do the writing, but I think it turned out all right. First bio might be a little long, though.

Well, he did say up to 9 characters, as opposed to exactly 9. Might be worth just throwing up a couple and going from there. I know I'll be tweaking mine here and there over the next couple of days.

So far so good. Might steal your compartmentalization idea. It helps keep fairly long descriptions easy to read and understand, and some of my bios get fairly long.

Damn, doesn't look like I'll get the time to enter this challenge, but I'm really enjoying reading everyone's submissions. It's refreshing reading about all these interesting non-Wardens. I hope other people enter before the deadline, too.
