This is sort-of off-topic, and I hope you all can help. I did a search on the forums and couldn't come up with anything. Basically I'm looking for books / game recommendations based upon my love of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I'm looking for video games that have a similar choose-your-own-path storyline (preferably with a romantic subplot), and/or books with a fantasy genre that also have a bit a romantic story. Since there's no more Dragon Age and Mass Effect for me to play for awhile, I'm trying to find something along the same lines, perhaps in another medium. Hopefully that makes sense. If you have anything to contribute, please let me know... Thanks!

Check out the Rhapsody series by Elizabeth Hayden. Good fantasy, and one of the more interesting romantic subplots I've ever seen.

I recommend Isaac Asimov books for Sci-fi, they're a little denser on the thought and less on the action than Mass Effect, but they are excellent. if you just want good ole fun military sci-fi/space opera, then I suggest books by John Scalzi, Jack Campbell, Elizabeth Moon and David Weber. As for movies/TV, I suggest Blade Runner for movies and Battlestar Galactica for TV.

I'll second John Scalzi. His "Old Man's War" series is some of the best Sci-Fi I've ever read. If you like romantic sub-plots in your Sci-Fi, there's a book called Variable Star by Spider Robinson and Robert A. Heinlein. Read it. It's probably one of my favorite books, period.

Dune by Frank Herbert...and it's 5 sequels. Some of the best reading I've ever had right there.

Firefly (TV) and Serenity (Movie) - sci-fi western that geeks everywhere still obsess over.

I second Blade Runner...and would throw in Metropolis if you can sit through a silent movie.

Lastly, I would add in Freespace (game). Theres no "choose your own" story path...and no romance at all, but the story of Mass Effect took a number of cue's from it...and it still has some of the best story telling in games to date.

I love the Isaac Asimov , H.G. Wells, and Phillip K. Dick books. Other scifi must-reads in my opinion are: At the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Leinlein, and Douglas Adams' Hich-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy:police:

Games are obviously going to include Baldur's Gate and, yes:

Planescape: Torment.

Planescape: Torment!

PLANESCAPE: TORMENT!!!

↑ That will actually bring you the enjoyment of both games and books in the same package: There's a lot of reading of an truly epic tale.

Also try Fallout 3 for a nice blend of sci-fi with some fantasy'ish elements. Both PS:T and FO3 have some of the most flexible "choose your own storylines" in RPGs ever.

Forgot Earth by David Brin and Grass by Sheri Tepper. Also, if you want to read something from this decade, try author China Mieville. His books are insane weird-like fantasy/fiction, especially Perdido Street Station ^_^

Another bump for "Old Man's War" by John Scalzi. It's a great book with fast moving plot, many laughed out loud moments, great characters and well paced action.

If you want a little more heavier reading and want to invest more time in a book then i can recommend "The Reality Dysfunction" by Peter F. Hamilton. Space opera at it's best with more or less like Farscape/Mass Effect universe. Started reading it a while ago, so far so good.

The old Dragon Lance series was good Dragons of: autumn Twighlight, Winter something, and Spring Dawn...summer flame was a weird final book that didn't really fit, as it was almost 10 years after those books.

If you are really into rather brutal fantasy and political intrigue I would recommend George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. It is some seriously good reading, and you never know what will happen next. I also second the Ender series by Card for sci-fi, and anything by Lovecraft.

EXTREME NECRO

Now they do have books/comics to read.

Additionally I would recommend Starcraft novels to anyone who enjoys ME, has many of the elements minus the romance.
