I felt like sharing this intense fight from my level 14 vanguard playthrough. It is done pre-Horizon and includes charging into 3 YMIR Mechs. I remember having difficulty with it on my other playthroughs as I am a terrible completionist. Here. I take almost no damage at all in the 50 seconds the fight lasts

Do you have a strategy? Post it here and share it!

Out of curiosity - has anyone ever obtained this on Insanity without using heavy weapons?

I wonder this too (feel pree to post a strategy/video about that if you have).

I doubt it, however, as the YMIR Mechs just have too much hits points to take down with conventional weapons in the 10 seconds you have to stop the from destroying a crate.

Really impressive video. When I played as Vanguard I didn't use much the heavy weapon and I think that's why I never saved all the crates. Is it even possible to save them without using Cain or another heavy?

If Tali's and Legion's combat drones were spammable... would people be able to redirect all 3 YMIR mechs?

Thanks and I know what you mean, most of the time you can kill things faster with your shotgun then with a heavy weapon anyway.

I've never thought about that, as I rarely use Tali or Legion unless I want some interesting dialogue :-)
Imagine if you were engineer too with a combat drone of your own! The problem is that as soon as the YMIR Mechs start attacking a crate it doesn't matter if they are stunned or killed in the process (even a milisecond counts and the crate is destroyed). Can a stunlock be so powerful that it keeps them from moving and thus from the crates before they even get to one?

Nice video. I always wondered if it was actually possible to save all the crates. Also nice armor. Love the colors.

Thanks, TerminusAssault Armor is imho the best for a pre-Horizon Vanguard. I wish N7 one could have a similar color pattern.

That was impressive. It's fairly easy to do on Normal but seeing it on Insanity, it definitely must have required some work.

Erm. Just wondering. Are there any benefits from saving all 20 instead of usual 7-8 I got using conventional tactics?

Nice. I was only able to save 12 of the crates.

I actually used a similar technique to saving all the crates with my Infiltrator, Tali, and Legion. Still used the Cain, but then sent out Tali's drone to one mech, Legion's to another, and took a headshot to the third.

I'm not sure if you could use a similar technique to get the same result with three combat drones and no heavy weapon. It would certainly take a better engineer than I. With all the tech upgrades, I think you can get the cooldown for Tali's and Legion's combat drone to maybe 15 seconds? It's spammable with Shepard's cooldown.

Send out the three drones to the three mechs at the start, but they won't last long. Use Shepard to distract one, have Tali and Legion alternate their combat drones on a second one, and spam Shepard's combat drone on the third. Maybe it might work then?

You get slightly more money. Nothing much though.

Unfortunatly no. As I pointed out in the comment below my youtube link, it is, however, nice to see some real reward (credits) for speed and tactics even if it is only implemented in a single assignment and is very insignificant.

I really hope Bioware creates more of this kind of missions in ME3. They have tried doing it in ME1 With the Pinnacle Station and while it took a few attempts on insanity it was tedious and repetitive.

I doubt it is possible to achieve a perfect score on that mission without the Cain. This missions seems to be designed solely for that one weapon.

My Vanguard run was some seconds faster, ... the whole fight lasted about twenty seconds only. That was a real shoulder-patter for me.

But with my Sentinel I could only save 15 Crates, ... could have saved a few more if I tried hard, but I could never rescue all of them. I actually think that doing this mission perfectly with a less-strong hitting class like Adept/Engineer/Sentinel without the sniper specialization to be impossible. Do drones distract mechs that do focus on the crates? Maybe that could be a workaround ...

Easiest is Infiltrator, ... activate Assassination Cloak and shoot the Cain. Takes about ten seconds to end this mission (tested!).

That's great and I would love to see some other videos of different strategies involved (even if they all begin with Cain) as long as all 20 crates are saved.

You can cheese this assignment, actually.

Bring the missile launcher, don't move forward from your starting position. (order your teammates to stay in place and don't use drones) fire the rocket launcher high up into the sky in the general direction of the fighting area. Despite the fact that you cannot target or even see the YMIRs the missile will automatically track and hit one of them and cause it to attack you at your starting location. Kill it using any method you like. Repeat procedure twice.

You will kill all three YMIRs without ever triggering the "kill crates" script. 20/20 every single time, guaranteed. (unless you get killed by fighting one mech at a time)

Pure cheese and exploitiness, but hey, if it works...Posted Image

And I thought using the Cain is cheap, ... but you just shot the barrel-roll.
I adjust my previous statement and add "using no exploits".

Seriously, did anyone ever managed to save all twenty crates playing either Adept/Engineer/Sentinel without Sniper-Training?
I believe it to be more or less impossible, because you seem to be unable wreak enough havoc quickly enough.

That is such a shame, it is one of the most strategic, rewarding and unique skills ME2 has to offer as it can be used to advance or retreat, defensively or offensively. After playing a charging Vanguard, I find it hard to enjoy any other class as they all repy so much on cover and hiding.
