But this debates run it's course. Agree to disagree?

Yeah, i think it's fine Posted Image  for that matter your explanation may be right, it's just my personal view it's an odd move given the curcumstances, but companies do make moves that seem weird all the time. It was only that part about it being possibly universal thing that caused the later discussion, and if that wasn't intended then there's certainly no point in keeping it up.

After all, its been about 3 months or so since Awakening and there has been nothing since then to shed more light on what that 2/1/2011 card means.

I think it's the release date for the 1.04 patch Posted Image

Especially if that announcement would have overshadowed or rivalled the KoToR presentation, right?  Kids these days!  You have to forgive them.  They haven't been battered by marketing for 20 years like the rest of us.

You mean like in 2009 when they advertised KotOR, Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 during the same E3? Yeah, that totally backfired on them and no one bothered to buy these titles...

Exactly!  They could have sold much better if they announcements had been independent.

You do realize the actual announcements for these titles were independent, don't you? DA was announced first in 2004 (at E3, amusingly enough) The Old Republic had its own announcement event in October 2008 and ME2 obviously wasn't announced together with either of them.

They were simply advertised together at E3 2009. They were also advertised before that. And then they had a hell advertised out of them separately in ~six months that followed till their respective launches. Except the Old Republic of course which keeps being advertised still as it has yet to launch.

But sure, if only it wasn't for that joint advertisement at E3 2009, they'd have sold much better. Posted Image

it's rather odd to see a company pass up on a good opportunity to advertise their products

Yeah, very much so... though I'd love to believe it's DA2 I find it incredibly strange that they'd not advertise a full title at E3. It must be an expansion. It's too early for DA2 anyway.

If I'm wrong on that, then I will be highly impressed with their industriousness.

Personally I don't understand the
Obsidian hate--I really enjoyed Alpha Protocol (even though it was
shorter than I'd like), and NWN2 is way better than NWN.

I agree with you on both those statements infinitely much. NWN was actually the game I liked the very least of all Bioware's games. If only Obsidian would get their tech together... their games seem to be rather buggy and chronically unfinished, some of the coolest stuff left on the cutting room floor. I love their ambition, but part of me just wants Bioware to swallow them up and help them get it together. Then again, I don't know what effect that would have on the people involved. Maybe if you shake up the team too much it would have a negative effect. Or maybe they'd be even more awesome; it's hard to say.

These days there are multiple channels of marketing that it is not really important which one you go through. The important thing is to have a strong product or service that can sell well when it hits the market. Different companies have different strategies and objectives and none of those strategies and objectives are necessarily more or less successful than others.

Bethesda for example are a developer that never advertise their games at E3 but they always announce them some time after the E3 on their website and then advertise them as exclusive covers on magazines to attract all the attention. Bioware on the other hand are a developer that don't necessarily announce their games at E3 but they always advertise there because it is also a good place to attract attention.

Neither of those methods is necessarily right or wrong which is proved by the fact that both companies are equally succesful. However, now that E3 has passed many people believe that Bethesda are probably close to announce their next big game. On the other hand, the fact that Bioware didn't advertise anything in relation to DA and ME at E3, although it doesn't prove anything by itself, it is at least a good indication that it will take some time before they reveal information about sequels to those games.

Don't really care about announcements being at a specific venue or a specific date as long as the product is good.:P

Between the two, I liked KOTOR I WAY more. While I was playing part 2 I told myself; man, this god-damn game is so bland. What happened?"

Then I realized Bioware did not make it.

But I digress......dragon age 2 is going to be cool, bioware did a great job on the first one. Wait, what do you mean you cant import your warden to part two? GOD FUC-
