Good logic there. Lemons and  limes are citrus fruits but so are oranges, so obviously lemons are not similar to limes.   Yep....makes sense to me.<_<

you should read my posts better I allready sad something about the cover system.

Oh well if YOU said it then people should just shut up and get off your internet, right?

comand of squad members? You cant be serious, your squad members in gears dont have skills or talents.

What exactly does skills and talents have to do with indirect control of squad members?  Nothing?  Good point, thanks for coming out.

Hahaha and sci fi setting, there are billions of other games in that setting thats not a reason to say that are similar games,

There are those damned citrus fruits again

Yes we could be here all day but that dont changes the fact that you dont have a clue...

Yes, obviously it is he that has no clue with his logic and ability to form a coherent sentence.

Baldur's Gate 2, and it's expansion Throne of Bhaal.

I'm always hesitant to recommend Baldur's Gate 1, because for me, that game was an ugly duckling not yet turned into the swan it was to become in BG2. I simply found it very tedious to play, and with severe flaws that were adressed in BG2.

So if you do play BG1 first, don't pre-judge BG2 by that experience. Even if you hate BG1, you might love BG2. Some people love BG1, and a few might even claim it's better than BG2, which I find really, really baffling.

NWN 2 is from obsidian and it was a disappointment for me. they are geting the rights to make the sequels for good games like NWN 1 everthing they throw at us sucks. I mean look at Fallout new vegas...
They even tried to make something like Mass effect, what was the name alpha protocol?!
But I did buy NWN 2, because I am such a big D&D fan, but sometimes I regret it...

For me it was the exact opposite. NWN1 was a disappointment, though pretty much every game was for a while after BG2. NWN1 had the henchman system instead of a party, and thus really limited party interaction. The story in the OC was... just OK. Nothing to inspire a re-play. The last of the official expansions was the best that NWN1 had to offer - that one was good.

NWN2's OC was much better - you got back the genuine party, and party interactions, and the storyline was more interesting.

As per the OP's question - NWN2 is certainly closer in gameplay experience to Dragon Age Origins, though I think DA:O is a somewhat better game.

Baldur's Gate is totally worth of double post. Even centuple.

BG2: SoA is still the best Bioware's game. BG1... well, still quite good. There's a patch for any compatibility problems for all Infinity Engine games.

Not very similar to DA though (luckily).

Bioware helped make Baldur's Gate 2 so in a way it is kind of similar.

Tho a different setting and style, i would say Vampire the Masquerade : Bloodlines is worth looking at Yasuraka, but do some research, and get it patched and some mods for it.

To the OP:
Most of the most likely candidates have already been mentioned. NWN2 is the closest - a flawed (very flawed) gem, imo. The lousy ending of the OC is more than made up for by the subsequent expansion packs.

BG and BG2 of yore are of course worth playing if you haven't already.

The Witcher has a set male protagonist, but despite that the muddy, conflicted world is probably closer in tone to DA than any of the high fantasy D&D games. The game's areas are beautiful to look at and the city feels much more alive than either Denerim or Neverwinter. Of the CRPGs that I've played, The Witcher's Vizima has been the best-realised city since Athkatla in BG2.

Good choice B) Ask if you will have any technical problems.

I recommend to start with BG2. BG1 is good too, but lacks of complex team interaction.
IW are simple hack 'n' slash, second one was quite enjoyable though.

I know this is probably heresy here, but I really can't stand some of the older RPGs like Baldur's Gate. They feel more like interactive e-books than video games.

Start with BG2? Bad call, you may not like certain elements of the game but, the reason the BG series is so great is the story. I agree that the party interaction was much better in BG2, but I think experiencing BG1 first will make BG2 all the more enjoyable

Simple, how? The IW games are more challenging than BG (due to refurbished spells) and have tons of dialogue as well, along with great music and story. Only difference is the absence of party banter.

Vampire the Masquerade : Bloodlines with the mod "Camarilla edition" is just great.
The game is enhanced and most of the bugs are no longer present.

But yes, it's not like DA:O ...
The Witcher is very good too, but only if you don't mind playing a pre-defined character ( and no party )

@ Sloth Of Doom:

say what you want, ME2 is not like Gears and alpha protocol is a wanna be ME2, if you would have played the games than you would probably know what I mean.

But let me guess you spent most of your time analyzing citrus fruits...

Gears is a pure shooter, ME and AP are not. you are compareing the worng games smartypants.

your logic and ability to form a coherent sentence won't get you very far, belive me.

The Icewind Dale games are much closer to "traditional" D&D campaigns (which is usually about progressive hack-&-slash with a fully-customized party) than Baldur's Gate, BTW. So fun in their own right.

Even better would be to get Baldur's Gate Tutu(silly name, I know), a free modification that transfers the whole of BG1 to the BG2 game engine, which means (somewhat) better graphics, as well as smoother gameplay.

Or Baldur's Gate Trilogy, another mod that integrates the whole collection into one ultra-humongous super-epic game of leviathan proportions.

Your choice. Either way works, both give you the same story.;)

I disagree, only because for me at least, when I first bought Baldur's Gate 1, I stopped playing maybe a quarter of the way through, in compete frustration over practical gamplay annoyances, and areas with nothing in them story or questwise. Slogging through endless, pointless, random encounters of the same monsters got tedious fast.

Baldur's Gate 1 was the reason I didn't buy BG2 initially when it came out, but only bought it on a whim later when I found it in a bargain bin.

So I would definitely recommend beginning with BG2, and then if you're really insistent on learning the early part of the story, which isn't in any way essential to know in playing BG2, go back and try and see if you've got the patience to go through BG1 later.

Though these days, BG1 and BG2 are usually sold together, so maybe a better recommendation would be to try out BG1, in case you're one of those people (that I'll never get) that seem to like the game, and if not, then just stop playing it, and move on to BG2, being careful not to prejudge BG2 by your BG1experience.
