Do not forget, Kingofdust, that if you become a pc ME gamer, ya gotta envoke a superiority complex & talk down to and condescend all gamers on other platforms. Sometimes other pc guys, too, just to be sure.

...was this really necessary?

We did all that c++ stuff and it didnt work, it turns out that it was my video card. He went to some nvidia site and upgraded the card and the game worked. Even WOW worked so something must have happened to my graphics card to downgrade it or something on the games were updated. Even though Mass Effect now loads my laptop can barly play it. I couldnt even make my shepard since since the it was taking forever just to select a face. I plan on getting a new laptop soon so its not too much of a set back, but I was thinking since my current lap top came out in 2007 and so did mass effect it should play fine lol. Anyway thanks for the help everyone, much appriciated.

Just a note for your laptop shopping.  If you want to be able to run Mass Effect on your new laptop, make sure it meets the system requirements for this game.  When they say "ATI or NVIDIA" they're not kidding, there's a high likelihood the game won't run if your graphics don't meet the minimum requirements, and most laptops won't.

Not only that, whoever helped you knew the number problem with running ME1 off steam. If your UAC is on (the annoying thing that keeps asking you for admin) your ME1 will never work, you have to actually go and turn off UAC since steam doesn't give you an option of running a game as admin (or at least i never found that option yet?) Anyway, im happy that you got the problem solved :D Cheers!

lol the funny thing was after taking 2 days to fix it the game barly ran on my lap top. It loaded but while making my comander shepard it lagged like crazy just trying to make a face was taking like a minute just for each one to load. But today I got my new laptop, Sony Vaio, and my dads friend who is a computer teacher and the guy at best buy said it would play all the games i mentioned. The only wierd thing is that on my old lap top which i got back in 2007 installed Mass Effect rather quickly and not in the 5 hours as steam said, but now on this brand new lap top just got today it is taking forever.

I don't know if this helps but my laptop runs Mass 1 &2 at 30 fps and above however there was this once when i was replaying mass 1 my fps dropped to like single digits esp in the persidium,,, i didn't get why .. I later realised that i had put the power mode on battery and my comp is set to shut off a core and redice gpu output (i think) when its overheated... hence the problem...i could onyl play it with a good laptop cooler then. Once I realised this and changed it I did not have any problems...with or without a laptop cooler

well too late to try anything now since i already bought the new lap top lol. I have run into another problem though. Mass Effect finally installed but now whether I click on the icon or click on "start" from steam it only shows the blue wheel than stops. No error message, no mass effect logo, no nothing. I even right clicked on steam and went to properties, compadibility and ran the program as an administrator. Still the same thing happens. Please tell me this is something easy to fix? My friends dad is gone on vacation now so I cant ask him for help until he gets back.
