I was toying around with the idea of a duel between him and Alim, but nah, I'll just have him killed. I'm actually more focused on the dreams in the fade part.

That won't be next chapter though. Next chapter will happen on the road to the tower, mostly one night at camp when they'll all socialize and discuss stuff (the letters, Loghain declaring the wardens traitors, etc.)

Mages aren't actually FORBIDDEN to marry, as it happens.

There's this banter:

Alistair: So tell me, you have any children? Grandchildren? I don't know, great grandchildren?

Wynne: What would make you think I have any children at all? You have to know I've spent most of my life in the Circle of Magi.

Alistair: You just seem like the grandmotherly type to me, I don't know.

Wynne: I suppose I'll take that as a comment on my demeanor and not my age.

Alistair: Mages aren't forbidden to marry or anything, are they? It's not such an outlandish question.

Wynne: Isn't it? What sort of man would marry a mage, do you think?

Alistair: How about another mage? There are just as many men as there are women within the Circle, as I recall.

Wynne: That sort of union is... not encouraged. Although that does not stop us from seeking out each other's... company from time to time.

Alistair: I... all right, suddenly you don't seem quite so grandmotherly to me anymore.

Wynne: Good. I would hope not.

And this conversation female mages can have with Teagan:

Teagan: If I may be so bold, what of you, my lady? Are you married?

PC: I'm a mage.

Teagan: Mages can marry, or so I'm told.

PC: They can, indeed, if the man is brave enough.

Teagan: I can think of several reasons why one would be willing to be so brave.

Ah, right, I never got that Teagan banter because I am male. :P I guess I'll go fix that right now.

And I just remembered that that Wilhelm mage that had Shale was also married. Some oversight i cooked up :|

Yeah, Jowan is eager to help...unless that involves going with you because it 'might be dangerous.'

You know, that going with you because it might be dangerous is, I'm pretty sure, just the developers' way of avoiding having to add him to your party (since it would have meant making him an actual companion, not just during the fade part of the quest). Or not. Regardless, the fact remains that he could very well escape the dungeon (he's a mage, for crying out loud. he could cast lightning or ice at that lock repeatedly until it broke, or just used some sort of telekinesis to unlock it and bail).

Oh, I agree that it was probably just a way to avoid making him a companion (though why they couldn't have let him be a temporary companion is beyond me. He didn't even really need any dialogue until reaching Isolde and that's when Jowan shows up ANYWAY). Still, it kind of makes his offer to help seem a bit less genuine.

On a different note, did that Blood Mage cartel and Alim's involvement at least sound believable? Since that is, pretty much, what happens in the game anyway, I figured I could use it as a justification for blood magic.

Yeah, that part worked fine. Although I really do have to wonder at Irving's sudden bout of stupidity as far as Uldred was concerned. Does he really have his head that far up his ass? Does playing games with Greagoir really take up that much time and attention?

Well, I just took what I saw in the game. Uldred didnt become a blood mage powerful enough to merge with a demon just after Ostagar, and the blood mages you find in the tower have obviously been researching blood magic for some time.

And, by some miracle or another, Chapter 24: Camps and Campfires is now up on FF.net.

So you mention that Raonar thinks Endrin will probably be alive by the time he returns because the letter he sent will discourage him from taking his own life. Is that your theory on what happens in-game, then? He just stops caring and allows himself to waste away?

Partially. Gorim says that the room stank of decay and whatever, and "your father has taken ill" is just too vague. So while my assumption may be a bit too out there for some, I don't think its entirely unreasonable to see it as possible at least.

Oh, and to your review on FF.net, Gwen was mostly pissed at Alistair because she can be really impulsive and she didn't feel great about being the only one who didn't know. Especially since she's known Alistair the longest.

And she didn't want Damon to be around Rinne much because she's worried the latter will just play him in whatever way she wants, the same way Raonar manipulates the living daylights out of people.

Alim making a deal with honor. Alistair having to deal with the fact that his idiotic brother was the one actually responsible for what happened at Ostagar.

It's hard to criticize when I can't find anything to criticize.

Ah, well, that deal with Honor isn't exactly news, since it was blatantly offered back in Chapter 11. :P

Why do I get the feeling that Alim is the one who will sacrifice himself?

I am wondering about whether or not I should spoil this...

Decisions decisions...

Did you assume it based on the fact that he is the most powerful person alive in Ferelden (or will be son enough) and, thus, the only one wth a chance to overpower Raonar?

Based on the deal he made with Honor.

Well, you don't know what deal he made. And who says Honor knows about the Warden dying when killing the Archdemon?

Oh come on, it's clear as day that if Raonar doesn't do it then Alim will. :P

Clear as day? Wow... I must be really good at foreshadowing then because I must have done some really obvious one without even realizing. :))

Though I admit, Alim WOULD be among the first to jump in if that were the case. Still, it's far too early to offer any sort of end-tale spoiler, so I'll barely manage to stop myself from blurting anything.

You reasoning isn't flawed of course, the arguments ARE there.

Against all odds, Chapter 25: A Prince's Best Nightmare is already up on FF.net.

I had originally planned to cram all dreams together, but this one just... dragged on. I'll place all the others in the next chapter, or at least most of them. Ah well.

A very nice dream for him. Liked the part with Bhelen and Trian and you made me wish I had not killed Trian in my FF, teary eyed indeed.

And Honor smacking Raonar in the head? Priceless.

Are you serious? I'm prety sure that's like... one of my greatest accomplishments with this story so far. Unless, of course, you're being sarcastic.:P
