Fighting in the mindscape... wow. Not to mention Sten being awesome. I think of all the fictions Ive read your characterization + further development of Sten is the best Ive seen.

Sneaking into Orzammar? Cunning... very cunning indeed. I wish you could do that in the game, I hated everyone calling my kinslayer whenever I moved...

Well, I figured since I included all these characters, I may as well make sure they get some development, even if I do focus on the Wardens. And since the protagonist is quite different form pretty much anything you could possibly be in the game... well, of course people will react and develop differently.

Now that Gwen is up in front during Orzammar, she'll get some character development of her own. And Alistair too.

I got a feeling the whole Orzammar plotline will take MANY chapters to finish though....

It is (in my own opinion) the most epic part of the game. It should take MANY chapters :D

Funny part is that Dragon Age 2 is coming in March, and I'm not sure I'm even done with the first HALF of this story O_O.

I've come to the conclusion that this story has soap opera-esque pacing. A lot seems to happen each chapter and yet it's taken HOW long to get to that third treaty? Image IPB

Wait, you're saying only soap operas have this kind of pacing?

Well... I suppose I did spend a bit of time on the DC-CE romance...

It's just that my mother used to watch soap operas in the summer around lunchtime so I was semi-caught up for a few weeks and despite all the drama in a single episode, it took weeks or months to actually get things done and it just struck me as really bizarre how so much and little seems to happen all at once and that's how this story reminds me of that, not in terms of soap opera romances or anything like that.

Well, if you haven't noticed, I have been sprinkling a lot of, shall we say, plot sprouts. In case I ever lose my mind completely and actually write a sequel to this.... well, let's just say I'm just going to lampshade a lot of things and include as much info from all DLCs and Flemeth/Blight/Old god theories as possible.

Plus, the protagonist is practically incapable of NOT noticing foreshadowing elements.

Chapter 40: Grand Disproving is now up on FF.net.

I also finally managed to get an account on Archive of our Own. Chapter 1 is here, while Chapter 40 is here.

Having read the ending, all I can say is that I kind of hate you. Image IPB

If it's any consolation, I already started work on the next chapter, and I had decided long ago that I'd dedicate an entire one to the Raonar-Trian reunion.

Guess that means I can stop worrying that that would be a later flashback. I'm hoping we can finally get something out of Raonar about Bhelen.
And judging by Faren's reaction to finding out what happened the first time Raonar met Rica, I'm starting to wonder if maybe the 'mild sexual harassment' thing was what Raonar had initially been planning on confessing but Faren reacted so poorly to just finding out the scene-setting information (Bhelen/Rica) that he decided it was best not to mention that after all. Nah, it wasn't. The 'Rica is with Bhelen' thing was what he wanted to reveal (and got pulped for). A lot of things will be revealed in Chapter 42, I must say, some of which unexpected and some not.

So, it's finally here! The long awaited reunion between the DN protagonist and Trian Aeducan (whose death had been faked against his will).

Chapter 42: Truth Beneath Truth (Archive of our Own)

Next chapter will go into more depth on just how Trian actually became reasonable. Do tell if you thought anything was too out of character here though.

I'll reserve my judgment on Trian until the next chapter when there's a bit more detail on how Trian went from being the arrogant S-O-B who gave a legless child a "man up" speech to a more humble accepting Trian who actually cried and admitted his insecurities.

By the way, very emotional chapter and those emotions were conveyed perfectly. Bravo.

I believe you may be forgetting that Trian wasn't really a bad guy, even in the game. He was insufferable, yes, but he actually did mean well, in his own way. It really was his upbringing and sheltered lifestyle (he was a real White Prince) that made him like that. Even that speech he gave to the legless boy, it really was just a sparkling moment of contrived stupidity (again, because of his upbringing), not because he wanted to put the kid down (which he didn't).

Raonar is trying to turn Trian into something more akin to this.

And you do realize Trian hadn't slept in 5 days, yes? Thus, he wasn't exactly in a position to show restraint, or have enough energy to be in denial. And being exhausted to such a degree really will mess up with whatever self-confidence you have left.

As someone who slept for 8 hours in a total of 144 hours, I disagree that he couldnt have shown restraint :-p

I understand what Raonar is trying to do, and I agree that Trian was trying to mean well in his own way, but you don't go from "Hey you, paraplegic. Get a job!" (regardless of upbringing) to The Wise Prince he's being shaped towards with some truthful words from someone you once considered an inferior and emotional upheaval involving fathers death, brothers possible death, etc. He could become better under those circumstances of course, but there's going to be one hell of a cognitive dissonance going on in Trians' head, and I think that needs to be explored more to be convincing *shrugs*

Just my opinion mate :P

Well, he hadn't slept in 5 days, and he'd been sleeping like 3-4 hours a night before that, and he'd been dealing with concern, mourning, feelings of abandonment for even longer :P And This IS Trian, so I was saying he wasn't able to show much restraint because he never really did have much of it in the first place.

But I know i have to explore more, and i plan to do so, trust me ;) I'm sure as hell not finished with him :P There'll be at least two chapters (or parts of them) dedicated to it. And it's not like he's anywhere near Wise Princeliness yet.
