It would be best to destroy the citadel and the catalyst's ability to control the reapers with it.
Lets not forget that reapers are AI's, but under the control of the catalyst/citadel/thingy. Free of that control i dont know what they would do, but it would have been an interesting ending

since everyone else is posting spoilers.. and since I got no response from bioware about my account missing ME games I figure I will just post it here anyways.

The ending needs very little to make it good... cut out all the god child crap.

Shepard activates the Citadel.
Anderson and Shepard both sit down

Shepard-"Anderson we did it sir”

Anderson-"Yes we did, we both did, Its.. quite a view”

Shepard-"Best seats in the house”

Anderson-"God.. feels like years since I just sat down.”

Shepard-"Think you earned a rest.”

Anderson-"Ever wonder how things would be different, how our lives would be different if this hadnt happend. I never had a family Shepard, never had children.”

Shepard-"There will be time enough for that now”.

Anderson-"I... I think that ship has sailed”. *COUGH*

Shepard-"Anderson? Anderson?"
Heartbeat sound starts pumping, hard and fast.
Shepard Breathes hard.

Shepard staggers to his/her feet, leans down and picks Anderson up, and starts limping back towards the Entrance Beam.

Shepard shouts-"Hang on Anderson Stay with me, we are almost through this.”

Heartbeat starts to slow down.
Breathing gets ragged
Shepard staggers to the entrance and puts Anderson on the Relay pad and activates it Anderson disappears, Shepard then collapses.

Citadel sends out its Anti Reaper pulse, as it spreads through out the galaxy the heartbeat sound slows down along with breathing becomming more ragged.

As it finishes showing the pulse destroying the reapers over Earth/Palavan/Thessia.

Screen goes black.

Heart beats a few more times then one last long exhale is heard and both stop.

Fades to screen of shadow of a Man holding a Childs hand.

Holds there with the wind whistling in the wind, and birds can be heard calling in the distance.

After 5-10 seconds

Anderson Speaks-"Thank you Shepard.”

Child-"Father, why are you crying."
Screen fades.

The End.

My perfect ending would have been that either:

Shepard dies trying to activate the Crucible to destroy the Reapers(in my opinion the Crucible should have been a weapon to actually destroy the Reapers and not to activate the Citadel AI). Shepard (severely wounded) dies as he walks to the controls. The screen pans out and fades, the remaining organic races are seen being crushed by the Reapers. All the major planets are eventually conquered. Only a handful of characters survive(similar to Prothean events).

OR

Shepard (severely wounded) staggers towards the controls of the Citadel. An AI construct warns Shepard that activating it will cause a powerful energy surge that will kill everyone on the Citadel. Shepard calms down, looks up at the battle happening in space(outside Earth) and has his entire life flashback (reminiscing of all those he has lost and those he doesn't want to lose) then he activates the Citadel + Crucible, sacrificing himself and taking out all the Reapers.

I kinda enjoyed my ending to the story though. I chose "Synthesis" and felt that it was an epic ending. It sucked thought that all the Relays where destroyed in the process. Now all alien civilizations will be isolated. Those who integrated themselves with other races will probably mix of fuse. IDK

I hope that if another Mass Effect game is made, that it takes place thousands of years after the events of ME3. In this future, the synthetic/organic species have recreated a similar system to the Mass Relays to connect star systems. The plot twist can be the emergence of a new transcendental race who have conquered other galaxies! Similar to the Arrival DLC, a science team on the very edge of the Milky Way discover that something is traveling towards the Milky Way galaxy. When they plot the arrival time they realize that it will be soon. The new enemy arrives and immediately takes out an entire star system. They outmatch the new Milky Way alien races in almost every way. The plot would be that the powerful foe is just a scout, sent to construct a massive dark matter relay to connect the Milky Way with its own galaxy. The Reapers where created to counter this foe, but since the Reapers where dispatched by Shepard, the Milky Way is in peril now.

Sorry but I kinda ran with the idea.

I'll be fine as long as it explains the future of the series, Fallout-style.

Here is mine:

- Your war assets and readiness level affect the size of the armada that attacks and the strength of the Reapers' ground forces.

- Shepard and his squad fights their way towards the beam. He/she is forced to make decisions involving all the squadmates, like in ME2, where some may or may not die.

- Shepard makes it to the beam and enters the Citadel with his/her squad. Harbinger doesn't nuke the squad.

- Shepard and the rest of the squad split up to look for a way to activate the crucible. Shepard interacts with the Illusive Man and Anderson, eventually resulting in the Illusive Man's death/suicide. Anderson may or may not die, depending on your choices. I would keep that part pretty much the same, but the conversation could have been better. Also, shooting him should not have been a renegade option.

- After the Illusive Man's death, while you are activating the Crucible, a hologram of Harbinger confronts you and attempts with all its might to indoctrinate you. There is a dialogue between Shepard and Harbinger where you learn some things, all the while Shepard is fighting indoctrination.

- Shepard becomes indoctrinated for a moment and destroys the console to activate the crucible.

- Your squad appears and jars you from your indoctrinated state. You realize that someone has to stay behind and activate the weapon which will ultimately result in their death. The weapon destroys the Crucible, the Citadel, and the Reapers, but not the Mass Relays.

- Paragon Route: You can choose to stay behind yourself and depending on who your LI is, they may choose to stay with you. If your LI isn't a squad member, it has a cutscene where you radio them and a touching goodbye ensues.

- Neutral Route: If you saved Anderson, he will offer to stay behind.

- Renegade Route: You can choose one of your squad members to stay behind and activate it.

- The Reapers can win if you lose too many teammates, who therefore fail their tasks, during the battle to reach the beam.

- After your pathway is chosen, if the weapon is activated, the Citadel/Crucible structure is activated, releasing a virus/signal which interacts with the nearest Reaper and then, like the instantaneous subspace radio frequency in Mass Effect, it jumps to subsequent reapers throughout the galaxy. It weakens them significantly (destroys their shields and weapons, and irreparably corrupts their AI), doesn't kill them, but it allows for a cool end game cinematic where you get to watch the armada rain hell down on the Reapers that are present around Earth. It'll show the Normandy and Joker, because they need to make an appearance.

- It also allows for some of the Reapers to survive and make it into other ME games as side enemies.

- You get to see what happened to each of your squadmates and there is a massive ceremony on Earth where all of the species' leaders praise the efforts, yada, yada. A statue of whoever sacrificed themselves is shown.

Lots of things here I agree with like an ending I didn't expect, etc. My own thoughts about it are sorta lame I guess, can't think of any endings but do wish they would of showed me a lil asari baby shepard at the end. I also think they should of showed more key char reactions to how it ended also so the end would of felt more gripping and final. As it stands, I don't even know who survived and who didn't. I could think of lots of clips that would be nice, liara maybe holding our baby and a pic of shep with a tear in her eyeor maybe wrex getting his crew in line saying 'I've known humans tougher than you lot' or something.. you know.. just a few things like that so it felt complete.

My perfect edning would be my Male Shep and Kaidan living happly and the galaxy coming togther in unity showing how there will be a new found peace in the galaxy showing different races coming together and the crew of the normandy and the crew in ME2 all coming together for a celebration. Think Return of the Jedi.
