for decades many of us have witnessed amazing movies that capture our hearts, scare us,put us on the edge of our seats, and even cry sometimes....unfortunatly alot of good movies are plagued with terrible TERRIBLE endings

the movie I belive has THE WORST ENDING EVER is no country for old men...the movie had a great 1 hour and 30 minutes..but the last half hour is a mess.. the main character gets killed by a bunch of random idiots, the money just dissapears, the villian gets away, and tommy lee jones? tommy lee jones character didnt fit at all.he was just some old guy giving long speeches that make him sound wise(i dont even think his performance was that great anyone could have done his role).overall very exciting movie and plot, all messed up by a non ending.im not kidding at the last minute you see the sherrif telling his mother about a dream he had(has nothin to do with story) and then BAM CREDITS...of course many of you will disagree but tell me that the ending sucked but...

what movie do YOU think has the worst ending ever

I think it's suppose to make you think or some crap like ""The
Wresler"". That also had an abrupt ending,. just done much better.

Anyhoos', I didn't like "The Dark Knight" ending.  Batman Begins had a really cool ending because it made you think "Wow, the jokers coming back" and  made you hype it up thinking how awesome it's gona be. The Dark Knight  was just portentous mumbvo jumbo imo.

The Butterfly Effect 2

Besides not having any likeable characters or an interesting story to begin with, you'd at least expect them to pull a plotwist of Keyser Söze-like proportions to make the movie bearable and at least semi-worthy of it's predecessor.

Turns out, there was absolutely nothing that could redeem this movie.

I think for me is "The Village" by M. Night Shyamalan.

Yes, he's building himself a tradition of making awkward movies and dialogues (want proof? Search fo "What? NO" on youtube), but this still tops them all IMHO.

All the time, they spread the marketing of "Don't tell the secret!" "The secret will blow your mind!" and in the end...when the said "secret" is revealed, we want to go back in time so we don't know the secret anymore.

I hate any movie when someone just walks away or something and there is no complete "ending"

I don't know about all of history but for relatively-recent movies, War of the Worlds.

I'm not talking about the fate of the aliens but his family unscathed and waiting ahead of him like nothing happened. They could've worked their survival in through better ways.

@SleeplessInSigil I agree War of the Worlds had a terrible ending with the Tom Cruise character going back to his ex-wife's neighborhood and nothing had happened to it, everyone fine and happy...!!! pleaseeeeee. Also, James Cameron's the Abyss had a pretty retarded ending.

As for No Country for Old Men, I understand why some people wouldn't be too satisfied with the ending but I liked it. The movie was very faithful to McCarthy's novel.

I went and saw that in theatres and guessed the ending within the first 15 minutes.

Only movie I cant hink of right now with a bad ending is A.I but then again that entire movie was a depressing garbage fest.  Characters are supposed to grow and develop during a movie but here the character did everything possible to stay the same, even after the ending you knew nothing changed, even thinking about it makes me feel ill.

Anything M. Night Shyamalan. His movies are good until they hit the endings.

By the way, on the other side of the coin, the BEST-ever endings are those that rely on a complete lack of spoilers to keep up their effect, and with that I nominate:

Cube

Fight Club

Pan's Labyrinth

'The Others' is by far the worst.......It leaves your mind fried, going..."What the hell just happened?"

People may think I'm strange for saying this, but the worst ending of a movie I've ever encountered was the end of American Beauty. It was a great movie up through about the last 5 minutes. Then, the last 5 minutes, they sit there and explain what the movie was about. That drove me crazy.

There's a reason we all have brains. It's so we can think. There's no point in making a movie that's thought provoking and interesting, and then explaining everything the movie was supposed to make you think about in the last 5 minutes. That was complete and utter crap...pissed me off so much.

Ugh, I hate these questions, they are absolute and I can never pick a winner. Worst movie ending ever? Do B-Movies count? Like Syfy movies? Or only major motion pictures that are widely known and were in theatres?

How about I Am Legend? It certainly isn't the worst ending, but I would rank it up there since the ending ruined the whole movie. That movie was great until *SPOILER ALERT* they introduced the woman and the boy and the whole story took a nose dive and went the opposite direction of the original story.

Also, on the No Country for Old Men, I rented that movie, watched it, was stunned with how they ended it, thought about it, and decided that it was a fitting ending (fit the title certainly) and I enjoyed its uniqueness from other endings. Also watched There Will Be Blood which has a similar abrupt ending, but still enjoyed it greatly.

I loved that ending. "I'm finished." Like the waiter is worried about his dinner when he just killed a guy.

Money corrupts indeed.

Exactly! It just ended right there which I actually didn't expect it to just go black and credits right there, and I just laughed for a good minute or two. Such an interesting character. Again, the ending really fit, it wasn't just a happy or sad ending, but an ending that fits with the story. My opinion at least.

Also, the Return of the Jedi ending wasn't bad but all those ugly ewoks dancing around were a bit too much for me

ugh yeah, nothing worse than admitting, "OK that sucked, let's try it all over again" pff no better than having everything turn out to have been just a dream <_<

but then otherwise it would've been the next worst ending possible: self-destroying universes (changing everything so drastically at the end that no further continuation in that franchise would be possible)

You're right. To stay true to character he should have immediately lost her again.

For me, Number 23.
