I know generally how they work, but do they stack. i.e. does a sword with a +1 Fire rune and a +2 Fire rune do 2 fire damage or 3 fire damage? How about with the flaming weapon spell? Or how about a +2 fire sword with a +2 fire rune? You get the idea.
They aren't doing something like having cold and fire cancel each other, are they?
Sorry to ask, but I just don't want to waste the money figuring this out and I KNOW that someone has spent the time figuring this out to the 9th decimal.
How do runes work (Do they stack?)

Each rune slot will apply the effects from the rune that is installed. For example, installing +1 and +2 fire runes on a weapon that does +2 fire will give you +5 fire damage. Personally I prefer to mix up the damage types so I'm never completely crippled by a resistance. And I stuck a cold rune on my aodh, because I'm just a sick bastard like that...

Yeah, but later on when there are a lot of runes and a lot of swords with rune slots - you can have a few different types of swords doing mass damage of one type eg. a fire +5 with 3 grandmaster flame (+5) is looking at +20 fire damage. Great against something susceptible to fire! Have a fire sword, an ice sword, a lightning sword and a darkspawn sword and change depending on your enemy... at least for your tank with lots of protective armour.
I also like to give Zevran daggers with paralysis runes because he's fast and can hold off a lot of enemies while you concentrate on one at a time.

So far the only runes I've applied to my duelist warrior is lighting to both sword & dagger. The effects look awesome :-)

Master or grandmaster paralyze on a quick rogue weapon is amazingly effective, especially if you have the rogue talent that deals bonus damage to immobile enemies.
