After finally buying the game, and after a (relatively) quick download from Steam, I was very eager to get on and begin playing. Unfortunately, intermittently while playing, my screen will flicker black and I will hear a beeping sound through my headphones (not from the computer itself; e.g. not a typical error beep from the system speaker).
Immediately I figured it to overheating, because my PC is on the lower end of the spectrum (Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz, 2 GB RAM, Radeon x1950xtx) and I was cranking the graphics pretty high to see what I could get. Even on lower settings, however, it still happens occasionally. I would like to say fiddling with the settings (turning on vsync, turning down the resolution, etc.) decreased the frequency of these episodes, but I have not actually timed anything. Furthermore, my CPU is running at 52C idle and 65C while playing (Tj Max of 85C), which is about what I get in other games that do not have this problem, so I do not believe it to be overheating.
I also thought about some other process that might be trying to steal focus, but there is nothing running other than Steam and typical background Windows processes. The only DLC I have installed is The Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, Blood Dragon Armor, and that various Deluxe Edition items. I also have the Character Respec user mod installed, but this problem existed long before I installed that.
My video drivers are up to date and there seems to be no other observable effect of these flickers after they pass. There is no slowing of frame rate or crashes. Just a flicker, a quick, loud beep, and then back to game play. Sometimes if I don't tab out and re-tab back in, they will come in bunches, though.
Screen Flicker and Beep

The screen flickering and beeping has seemed to end, but now I get some screen tearing every now and again. Turning down the graphics seems to help, but it still occurs.
Still, any help/acknowledgement of similar experiences would he helpful.

Well, I'm fairly positive the issue is overheating...but not of my CPU. Apparently my GPU is pushing 90+ in some areas of the game (I had a particularly terrible time at the end of the Elven Ruins, with all of those werewolves on the screen at once, but earlier in the Ruins was fine). Turning all settings down, so that the game looks worse than Shadowbane circa 2001, seemed to fix it.
I guess I just need to find a balance of settings, or maybe try to clear out some dust.

For anyone who cares (perhaps whoever's job it is to monitor this stuff) , I have seem to fix the issue by switching to windowed mode (1280:800). I doubt the resolution has much to do with it as opposed to windowed mode, I just couldn't see the skill bar when it was set to 1440:900.
I am able to turn all settings up to the maximum (my max AA is 4x), and I've been running at 60C - 70C for hours now. I would previously see the highest temps at the character creation screen (up to 102C), of all places, but that is now also fine.
Barring this fix going downhill, I am pleasantly surprised that I can play at these settings by barely meeting the minimum requirements.

Are you running XP? 10.2 catalyst? It's an old card. Can you adjust the fan speed on the card? Try turning it up if you can. Also get a can of "air" and blow the dust bunnies out of it.

I'm running Windows 7. I actually disabled Catalyst at start, because it wouldn't load for me (this is apparently a common bug and requires an uninstall/device driver clean, which I didn't want to get in to). I cleaned out my case earlier today, but that did nothing.
I just ran through the Deep Roads (perhaps the most things on screen I have seen yet) and never went above 70C. It definitely seems like something to do with full screen mode.

What are the thermal readings on the CPU and GPU when that happens? You have actually read through this entire thread, correct?
