I just got the PC version of Mass Effect yesterday through Steam, and have not had much success trying to play it due to a freezing issue. When I first launched the game, I was able to get to the first menu, but was greeted by the blue "Saving Content" window which did not go away. Eventually I had to alt+tab out and kill the process.
I tried again, that did not happen, but as soon as I went into the options and changed my resolution, the saving content window appeared again and once again would not go away. I terminated again, and re-launched, the game remembered the resolution change that I made. I updated some keyboard settings to different keys and applied, and once again, the saving content window made it impossible for me to do anything afterward.
Next I started the game, and once I got control of Shepard, decided to turn off film grain, once again, the saving content window would not go away, I terminated again, and lost the character I had created. At that point I realized this needed to be fixed so here I am.
I have to say I am surprised that I have not been able to find a solution to this through standard searching, I have found several threads describing this issue on the old ME support forums, and they all just die with no solution. I'm hoping to get to the bottom of this, first of all I just wanted to make this post and see if anyone was familiar with this problem, and whether or not there was a known solution yet.
I am running Windows 7, with a Core 2 Duo 3GHz Processor, 4 GB RAM, nVidia 9800 GT (512 MB VRAM), SB X-FI soundcard, and have updated the drivers to the most recent 257.21. The driver update did not resolve the problem. I re-ran the DirectX setup that was packaged with the game, this also did not change anything.
If anyone knows anything about this or has suggestions it would be appreciated, I know I am not the only one who has had this problem but am at a loss on how to resolve it.
