THIS
btw: WoW is cancer, I would shed not one tear if it would disappear tomorrow...

Personally, I'd cry a lot actually, simply because that would mean all the WoW fanatics would flood the other (immersive) MMO's. Age of Conan could be an example. Please let WoW continue so I don't have to deal with the large part of its fanbase.

As for ME being an MMO: I entertain the idea, but I do not think the industry is ripe for an ME MMO. If it would come out within 5 years, I'd only be inclined to play it if there were dedicated, strictly-enforced RP-servers. The same goes for Dragon Age btw.
Also, if there were to be an online ME universe, I hope none of the characters we know from the current game series would even exist, other than in our memories. It would either have to be far in the future from the single player games, or back to the past like KotOR did (which doesn't give much room considering the timeline of ME so far).

Considering these things, I would love to see an MMO based on the Mass Effect IP. If done in a non-conventional way, it may just be that one MMO all other MMO's failed to become. BioWare may well be up to the task, in about 10 years or more.

NEVER in a trillion years!!! Turning a franchise into an MMO is the best and fastest way to ruin it.

No. Hell no. There are enough MMO's. More than enough. Did anyone see E3? We have:

-MMo's

-Half-assed titles with half-assed multi player

-Shooters. lots of shooters. Droves of them.

-And more MMO's.

The entire industry is fast losing touch with the concept of originality.

I was pissed because they did nothing else any more, besides occasionally sleeping, eating and sleeping in school.

Sure, I'm all for games that "suck you in" to the world they display, but this was over the top. For them, WoW was the ultimate game, as if nothing could ever come close to it.

This sounds more like a problem with your friends than it is with WoW. My group of friends and I have been subscribed to WoW for a few years, but never have any of us reached that level of dedication to the game.

And just as a general aside, I don't see why people have to get so aggressive when it comes to WoW, or any MMO. It's just a game, you have your opinion, you're entitled to it, etc. etc. But slinging insults and belittling people's intelligence just because their opinion differs from yours? Sorry to say sunshine, but that just makes you look worse than the people you're debasing.

Now what would be fun is multiplayer - limit 3 players, 1 for each squad member (incl Shepard). If I remember right, Bioware tried that for some of the Baldaur's Gate series

The thing that no one is understanding is that they wouldn't turn the formula from single player Mass Effect into MMO ME. Look at (I know we all hate it) WoW, it didn't take the single player format in the least, and made an MMO in the same universe. As well, for plot, it would be simple: Citadel Space and, let's say, the Terminus Systems. Right there you have the basis for a PvP based game, much like what I'm thinking Star Wars is going to be like. Hell, you could take the engine they're taking for SW and translate it over to a Mass Effect setting.

To address other problems, look at WoW 5 years ago, when the game was played by gamers and not everyone and their grandmother. If we were still 5 years ago, I would safely bet there wouldn't be much negativity towards the idea.

Personally, I wouldn't want to play a ME MMO, nor would I want to have an ME game with heavy co-op emphasis, simply because I do not have enough friends that play video-games to have a persistent group to play with, which is the best way to ruin a multiplayer experience.

Sudden brain blast: a Mass Effect game that had offline and online interconnect. Make it like Mass Effect: C-Sec or Spectre academy, where there is still a single player story and progression, but you can connect online to a group of "trainees" or whatever, and play in either PvP modes for standings / class rank, or in cooperative modes which can affect the single player story lines (ie you raid a planet of drug dealers and later Emily Wong reports / side quests open up). In this online mode, you import your single player char.

Just a little idea.

People are aggressive towards MMO because they kill IPs. They suck so many resources that no idea for another game can be produced based on that IP. Take a look at KOTOR and War Craft. Both reduced to a game principle that you can or can not like, but both IPs are dead except for those MMOs. So I really don't want to see another good game series killed for something like a MMO.

As I said before, I will never play a MMO because of the other players. I ain't a fan of this forum (but it has information) and I for sure don't want to share my ME-gaming experience with most of those people running around here. It would ruin my time of relax.

So NO! NO! NO! No f***ing MMO for ME!!

Not all MMOers are aggressive. If you find a decent, not mainstreamed MMO, you can find a good community. The thing is who is playing the MMO. WoW has become so streamlined to allow everyone and their grandmother simplicity. WoW 5 years ago, as in my post above says, was nothing like WoW today. Back then, it was somewhat of a cult classic situation to play WoW, now you can find the most random people on the street playing WoW, who have no clue any of the backstory, or even that WoW was a RTS at one point.

Which leads me to anohter point: MMOs don't kill IP, subscribers kill IP. In the service industry, there is a motto, "The customer is always right," and the gaming industry is just a branch of the service, so what the subscribers want, the subscribers get. Sadly, most are not "core" gamers. WoW once had a story, when demand wasn't so high, but now that the demand is so much greater, Blizzard is rushing patch after patch out to keep everyone happy. Find a decent, not mainstream MMO, and you'll find decent IP and community.

MMO's only ruin IP's if you allow them to. Most people just see "Kill X random creatures" (especially on the higher levels when what you do has more impact to the narrative) as busywork, instead of what the culmination of that specific quest or questline added to the story.

4 years of playing WoW (2 of which was spent as one of those hardcore raider types) and I could always appreciate the storyline behind what I was doing. Sure, I enjoyed all "teh phat lewtz" and whatnot, but I never let that blind me to the bigger picture.

With that said, no on the general idea of a Mass Effect MMO. How would that work, anyway? There always has to be two sides to choose from. How would you split up the races? What kind of mysterious animoisty will make these two sides want to fight each other? It's not exactly as defined as it is in WoW or as it will be in ToR. In this case, it would probably ruin the basic premise behind the Mass Effect storyline, unless we let people run around as individual Reapers or Geth.

A few ways, I think:

1. You could have a general pool of races, turian, asari, human etc. and then give the player the choice to decide wheter or not they are from Terminus or Citadel Space, and just say this is set in the future, blah, blah, blah, cataclymic war, blah, blah, blah. Would lead to a dead end for the IP, but yeah...

2. Turians vs. Humans, 1st contact war acted out in MMO form.

3. A Mass Effect game that had offline and online interconnect. Make it
like Mass Effect: C-Sec or Spectre academy, where there is still a

group of "trainees" or whatever, and play in either PvP modes for

single player story lines (ie you raid a planet of drug dealers and

you import your single player char. This way you can preserve the single player IP, but add that multiplayer and competive nature for those players out there.

You misunderstood me. They kill IPs because no new games come out. Every single idea gets implemented into the MMO because its players need something "new" to keep spending their money on the same game over and over. I don't care about how it works out in the game because - as I already said - I don't even want to play the game with someone else. My problem is, that IPs used for MMO become stuck with them and there is no chance a new single player game would come out (like KOTOR and War Craft).

Yep, want.

I have a feeling that if SWTOR MMO is a huge success then it could only be a matter of time before a Mass Effect MMO could be out there as well...

I personally would like this if it was done correctly...Maybe in a setting sometime after Mass Effect 3 with the option of playing as a turian, krogan, asari, human, etc.

I think the potential would be enormous for this title...Although it probably wouldnt be seen for a a few years as to not steal the thunder away from SWTOR.

Thoughts?

Would I want to play a Mass Effect MMORPG?

But that simply isn't true. Blizzard has a number of developers active on the forums who are constantly challenging the 'customer is always right' mentality. It's never been a part of their design decisions. You're describing more of the situation with Star Wars Galaxies, where the playerbase wined for playable Jedi, the devs made them available, and then the massively imabalanced Jedi ruined the game. It's not like WoW doesn't have its balance issues, but it's never been 'ruined' by devs caving in. I still like it, anyway.

And what's this about WoW 'once' having a story? And 'rushing patch after patch'? I guess there's some subjectivity on what you think is a 'story' and 'rushing', but I really think that's a stretch. The storytelling has only gotten better with each expansion as Blizz has improved their technology - phasing allows the world to evolve around the player (to a degree), in-game cutscenes have been implemented, much more focus has been added on allowing every player to experience the story (which, truly, is quite good and expansive). As for the patch thing? They get a major content patch out every 4 to 6 months. Not exactly what I'd call 'rushing'.

No. Never liked the concept of the MMO universe and never will. I believe in paying ONCE to own and play the game. Not paying to purchase the software and then paying AGAIN to be able to use it.

MMO's are so time consuming if you want to achieve anything in them. I am growing more and more distant from the desire to play one as I get older.

An MMO set in the ME universe? I wouldn't play it but it would be a nice change from the elves, dwarfs and the like.

No. I watched my cousin play a MMO once. They talked about what was going on in school more than actually playing the game. Fun for him, I guess. If I want to play a game w/ a bunch of people who want to chat about stuff other than the game or bicker over rules or who shot who, I'll go play D&D. No MMO's for me, thank you.

Ah, yes.  The other reason I don't like MMOs.
