I've been trying to work to find some workaround, but after I clear the gate of darkspawn during the siege and go to the Childers at the East Wall, the journal NEVER updates when I kill them all, leaving the main quest deadlocked. I've done multiple reinstalls and the problem is still there.

I am going through Awakenings too and encountered the same deadlock on the Siege. I can't progress through the next battle as the journal doesn't update and the next event isn't triggering when I return to the main courtyard and gate.

i think what is wrong is that one of the childers spawns outside of the castle, where we can't kill it, but it has to be killed for the quest to continue. i tried the runscript killallhostiles (and runscript zzz_killallhostiles) while standing as close as i could to where the arrow on the radar was pointing, to no avail. i tried reloading the save to before the battle but exactly the same happens.
tried searching for a noclip cheat but can't find it.
please help with this, its really annoying that i cant continue.

I just bumped into the same bug (yeah I know I'm pretty late with playing awakening) and am stuck after I have hold the east wall... If there's still anyone out there having the same issue here's a solution I figured out: Open the console (description on how to do this is here: http://dragonage.wik...om/wiki/Console there's a mod on dragonagenexus that let's you see what you're typing) and type (without the quotation marks) "runscript zz_vgk_debug_siege", select Plot Jump and choose the option after the Children Wave at the East Wall. Haven't played any further yet so I'm not sure if this might affect later parts of the battle, but at least it gets you to the next darkspawn wave back to the front gates.. hope this helps..
Edit: even the following darkspawn waves appear to be bugged with enemies spawning behind the barrier etc... still if you jump to the final battle the disciples, the armored ogre and the herald spawn inside (!) the keep so you can finish quest, get the achievement and continue playing. worked for me at least..

Thank you sir. I came across the same problem. though at a slightly different point in the fight. and your instructions got me through it.
At this point I am disgusted in EA and bioware. The fact this should have been fixed in a patch aside. The least they could do would have someone pop into one of the threads on this subject mention this.
Dragon age is a great game but this is the second potentially game destroying bug I have encountered with absolute silence from EA and bioware support on the matter, In the other case it was found over a year ago.
I cant help but think the fault lies with EA, this game obviously required at least one final patch. regardless this is the last bioware game I buy.
At this point I am disgusted in EA and bioware. The fact this should have been fixed in a patch aside. The least they could do would have someone pop into one of the threads on this subject mention this.

Just curious -- anyone yet try an AOE spell outside the castle wall where the errant childer spawns? I will attempt when I have access to my game again...

AHHH damn, Im always stuck at same scene, I reloaded a few times but I cant get past the children....
I cant belive that this bug isnt fixed yet, im playing the Ultimate Edition and DAO2 is comming out in a few months.
I mean there are a lot of small minor bugs ingame, but this is a major bug! Im quite dissapointed that Bioware doesnt seem to care anymore.

Here's my proble, which started out the same as your problem was: Now, I hear the Darkspawn but don't run into any, and when I get to Oghren in the room where he is fighting..? He is just standing there and that's the deadlock. Can't go any further.
So, I had to take off Awakenings until I klnow what the problems are. (Good thing I saved my characters and saved games):innocent:

I uninstalled awakenings completely with the exception of the files and saved games and characters.
Then, I re-installed it again. I ran patch 1.4, and it seemed to work perfectly. NO PROBLEMS.
So, if you want to try that, go for it and leave a message how it worked out. Patch 1.4 is here on Bioware. Run it before you put it on, then run it again after you put it on. Mandatory!!

I found a solution that doesnt involve any console stuff or reinstalling. After all the childers where killed, and the quest never updated, I found that The Herald was standing outside the main gate. I positioned my team (Velanna as damager, Anders as healer/CC and Nate as archer) at the Senechal and zoomed out into tactics mode. Even though The Herald stands far away, Velanna and Anders could still reach him with spells. He could also be assasinated and catapulted. After he died, the quest continued, though with no cutscenes.

Okay everyone I have been playing Awakenings now since I did that one solution of mine with the un-installing and running the patch then installing again, then re-running the patch 1.4 again. I now have no more problems with freezes, loss of characters, loss of where to go, no problems. It all works now.
