I also just thought of something. Okay, you never got any ship upgrades and never did loyalty missions.

And you never download Kasumi and Zaeed. You never let Grunt out and you sold Legion to Cerberus. That only leaves:

Jacob

Miranda

Mordin

Garrus

Jack

Tali

Thane

Samara

The lack of ship upgrades will kill Jack, Thane and Tali. That leaves:

Jacob

Miranda

Mordin

Garrus

Samara

Then, let's say you choose Jacob as the tech specialist. He will die. Then you have to choose a biotic specialist. You choose Miranda. Then you have to choose a fire-team leader, you choose Mordin and then you have to choose someone to go back with the crew. You choose Samara. That means you'll only have one squaddie with you when you go with the biotic specialist(Garrus). Garrus, Mordin and Samara will all die. (Non-Loyal escorts will die). This leaves.

Miranda

What then?

You must really have nothing better to do.

Pretty much. Preseason doesn't start till Sunday.

Now, to make this remotely on topic, is it just my game or is it that the member that pulls you onto the ship is either your LI or, if not present at the human reaper battle, the person you save from plunging off the platform?

Don't know about the escort/biotic shield aspect of it, but I do know that if only one squadmate is on the distraction team (leader by default), they'll live. You'll have Miranda and Mordin.

However, I doubt you can do the biotic shield section with just one squadmate at your side, which leads me to believe that you cannot send an escort. I might check on this someday.

Grunt could be an escort if you want. I wouldn't consider it the wisest move, but it's not going to be instant fail if you play the rest of your cards right.

Samara can lead the fire team as you have a tech going through the ducts. Samara will live alright. Can't say the same for your tech. If she's the only one on the distraction team, she'll live by default.

hahahaahah.... that is one tough cookie.

Shepard will always survive the suicide mission if Miranda is loyal... she is immortal once she is loyal.

I read in Gameinformer i belive that grunt is the #1 choice for Escort, and i think your right about Samara i think i sent Jacob beacuse he voulnteered, I knew he was a tech but i wanted to see what would happen. Rest in pieace Jacob, I guess we wont get loud and spill drinks on the Citadel... with that Separd at least, my other five... sure why not

Any loyal squadmate will work for escort, Grunt is a bad idea because it may cause Mordin, Tali, etc. to die.

You can't send Miranda as an escort. She doesn't show up as an option. Guess she absolutely disagrees with sending anyone back with the crew when you've got a suicide mission to finish.

If you send Grunt as an escort, you have to leave both Garrus and Zaeed to hold the line. Otherwise, Mordin, Tali, Kasumi, or Jack will die. Reference the original post of this thread, which takes what's written in the Game Informer article and increases the details to 11.

Actually, yes. You can't attain this in the game itself, but you always can take any post "suicide mission" save file, open it in Gibbed's Save Editor, flag all remaining squadmates as dead and import it.

I'd really love to know the outcome of this. I'm thinking of making a couple more FAST playthroughs, that means doing the least number of loyalty quests, recruiting the minimum people needed. Can you draw up a list like that which will enable Shepard to survive at the end?

This was speculation, I haven't actually tried this:

Tier 1: Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed
Tier 2: Jacob, Legion, Miranda, Samara/Morinth, Thane
Tier 3: Jack, Kasumi, Mordin, Tali

7 Loyal/12 Survivors (maximum squad possible)
- Tier 1: 1 Loyal / Tier 2: 3 Loyal / Tier 3: 3 Loyal
- Tier 1: 1 Loyal / Tier 2: 2 Loyal / Tier 3: 4 Loyal
- Tier 1: 2 Loyal / Tier 2: 1 Loyal / Tier 3: 4 Loyal
- Tier 1: 3 Loyal / Tier 2: 0 Loyal / Tier 3: 4 Loyal

For each combination, the loyal squadmates you will need are:
- 1 person to be the fire team leader
- 1 person who can hold the biotic shield
- 1 person from Tier 3 to escort the crew
- 2 people from Tier 3 to go to the final battle

3 Loyal/8 Survivors (minimum squad possible)
- Tier 1: 0 Loyal / Tier 2: 1 Loyal / Tier 3: 2 Loyal

In this scenario, you must have:
- Garrus, Grunt and Zaeed
- Either Jacob or Miranda loyal to be your fireteam leader
- Loyal Jack as your biotic specialist
- Loyal Tali as your tech specialist
- 1 loyal person to be your escort
- 2 loyal people to go to the final battle

No One Loyal/Shepard Lives (minimum recruitment possible)

1 tech specialist will die
1 person will die at the biotic shield
1 person will die as the second fireteam leader or Miranda will live as the second fireteam leader
1 person will die as an escort
Hold the Line: 2 out of these 3 - Garrus/Grunt/Zaeed
2 people will die at the final boss
Result: At least 2 survivors from Hold the Line/Shepard lives

This is speculation again, I haven't tried this. Should work in theory.

Wow...thanks! I don't have Kasumi (which is all fine and dandy as she's a liability unloyal). I was thinking the following squad set up:

All ship upgrades completed except shielding (no tali) which means 1 has to bite the dust?

Garrus/Zaeed/Grunt/Jacob/Miranda/Legion/Samara/Mordin

What confuses me then is how to control it so Garrus/Grunt & Zaeed survives?

Legion - tech spec (someone dies, not Legion)
Samara - biotic shield (someone dies, not Samara)
Miranda - fire team leader (so no one dies?)
Mordin - escort (Mordin dies)
Grunt/Garrus - HtL (who dies here, would Grunt/Garrus/Zaeed even be alive at this point, or should I swap out Legion/Samara?)

Is it true that a loyal Miranda plays a big part towards Shepard's survival btw? Is it worth doing only her loyalty quest to ensure a better chance of survival?

You'll have Jack as well, as you can't get to Horizon without doing all the dossiers in the first batch that the Illusive Man gives you. If you don't have the armor upgrade, then Jack will die.

For the biotic shield, look at the original post of this thread. You can manipulate who will be taken by the seeker swarm based on an ordered list.

Assuming you didn't lose them in the biotic shield segment, Garrus, Grunt, and Zaeed will be there to Hold the Line. They are your strongest defenders and the three of them should be able to Hold the Line without dying.

If you used Jacob as your tech and orchestrated Jack's death during the biotic shield section, you'll have Garrus, Grunt, Legion, Miranda, Samara, and Zaeed by the time you make it to the final point in the mission. Whoever you take with you to the final battle will die and you will have four left to Hold the Line. Very likely, one or two of those four are going to die, but you shouldn't get three deaths at that point. This means Shepard will live.

A loyal Miranda cannot die during the suicide mission, but you still need a second survivor for Shepard to live. Again, if you have Garrus, Grunt, or Zaeed holding the line, you'll get that second survivor easily.
