If Miranda is loyal and nobody else is loyal then someone will survive the hold the line segment and appear along side her when Shep is leaping into the Normandy (or so I've been told).

Depends on who you leave to hold the line.

Ok... I defer to you. You've tested it and I haven't. I was always told that there will either be no survivors or two survivors or more. I didn't know that Miranda would only survive and Shep would die.

Are the links in the OP not displaying for anyone else?

Edit - never mind! I can see them again now! :)

@Pacifien - thanks. Yeah, it occured to me that I would've gotten Jack if I want the latter 3 dossiers to appear after I posted. I'm still not sure that would make for the fastest playthrough, but the novelty of not having a single loyal squadmate and Shepard surviving sounds like fun. Maybe I'll give this set up a shot after I finish my current playthrough.

It's not easy, but there are ways to orchestrate one survivor. However, it still plays out like a Shepard dies playthrough. If that one survivor is from the Hold the Line sequence, Joker will say no one made it, but that one person will not be shown among the dead.

I figured this out while working with Mordin and Tali holding the line themselves. Loyal Mordin was the only survivor, so Shepard died. Joker says no one made it, but you only see Tali dead. Then when they're both unloyal, Joker says no one made it, but you'll see both Mordin and Tali dead.

What happens if only Zaeed and someone else survives, and then you do Zaeed's loyalty mission. can you kill him off?

Nope, the option doesn't show up at that point.

Sort of how if you do Virmire in ME1 but don't have Garrus or Liara, you'll have no option to shoot Wrex.

Why is that? It's not like you'd be left with one squad mate. You would have Ashley/Kaiden and Tali for the mission, and then afterwards your squad would be Virmire survivor and Tali.

It's for when Ashley and Kaidan are split up. One is with the nuke, the other is at the AA tower. Then you need Tali + 1 more for that brief period. If Garrus and Liara aren't an option, that leaves you with Wrex, so he must live.

Only Tali died with me, everyone was Loyal but I didn't take Tali to the final boss, is the reason she died simply because she isn't a strong squad member?

Hey everyone, I got a question. I'll start a new playthrough to get the No One Left Behind achievement.

I was wondering, if you don't recruit all characters, will that have consequences for the "Hold the line" part?

For example, if I don't recruit Tali, how will the game recognize this? Will I get 0 points for that or will the game not recognize her and simply skip her? In other words, will it decrease my chances of everyone who's holding the line surviving? If that's not the case, then that would spare me some time.

Sorry if this is a confusing question. Thanks in advance.

Not recruiting a character isn't going to hurt your Hold the Line score -- it only takes into account the squadmates you have brought with you for the mission.

Okay, new challenge for you guys:

I'm trying to get a playthrough that highlights Legion, where I'm romantically loyal to Liara. I'm a guy who likes a feeling of "doing as much as he possibly can" within runthroughs, but I'm also the type who loves making the suicide mission devastating--you know, in a sense, an actual "suicide mission".

Therefore, I'd like to do as much (if possible, all) of the loyalty missions before the suicide mission. Then, I want my only survivors of the mission to be:

Garrus
Jack
Samara
Legion
Kasumi

Final prerequisite: I HATE HATE HATE losing teammates before actually getting to the Collector Base. If possible, I'd like to do this runthrough while acquiring all of the ship upgrades as well. Tricky, huh? I have a semblance of what I need to do (kills at Tech Tunnel, Escort, Biotic Bubble, 2nd Team Leader, possibly both final boss squaddies) but am unsure when it comes to the Hold the Line Mathematics.

In short, how many loyalty missions can I do (don't mind if I have to mess a few up, like Thane's/Zaeed's, and what Suicide Mish combos must I follow if I choose to have all 12 squaddies still alive by the time I reach the base?

Ready, go!!!

Survivors: Garrus, Jack, Kasumi, Legion, Samara

All ship upgrades completed, all loyalty missions completed.
1. Sided with Jack during Miranda/Jack confrontation.
2. Sided with Legion during Tali/Legion confrontation.
3. Screwed up Thane's loyalty mission.

Tech - Jacob, dies
Escort - Garrus, him and crew live
Death by Seeker Swarm - Grunt
2nd Fireteam Leader - Zaeed, dies
Final Boss Squadmates - Miranda and Thane, both die

Hold the Line - Samara, Legion, Jack, Kasumi, Mordin, Tali
1. All loyal but Tali
2. HtL average = 1.17 (two squadmates should die)
3. Result: Tali and Mordin die.

Is it possible to kill Miranda by sending her as a non-loyal escort?

No. She does not show up as an option for escort.

TY, Pacifen! :D I actually found a couple of ways to pull my runthrough off, which is kinda motivating me to find a scenario in which there's only 1 possible runthrough.

You know, like a FIGURE OUT THE RUNTHROUGH sorta game, where you do X amount of loyalties, Y amount of upgrades, have Z people survive, with W conditions, solve for Q.

Not directly related to the suicide mission but... is it possible to willingly not recruit some squad members? I'm almost done with my playthrough and it seems to me like Legion is the only one you can skip.

Tali, Samara, and Thane can all be skipped and not recruited at all. But then, you would be screwing yourself out of content.

Miranda has Plot Armor. She can not die until she is done telling Shepard who to pick for Suicide MIssion related missions. BW was too cheap to have other voice acters voice the same lines, so MIranda has to live until the very final encounter and the game forces it. This is why Miranda is a "good" leader and why she is the only one that can lead the second fireteam even disloyal (you can confirm this by hacking the conversation files).

Miranda can not be chosen to be either the Tech Expert or the Escort. Game won't let you.

I see... I might want to try that in another playthrough. But how do I trigger the event of the disabled collector vessel?
