No, you won't need them.

just did I play through where I tried to get the worst possible outcome for ME3.. only samara and miranda are alive.
anyways, it felt really bad to watch them all die
legion was definitely a sad death and grunts was so cool, he went down like a true warrior.

Little question:
Assuming I've done all the recruitmnet/loyalty missions, after activating Legion is it possible to do Overlord and then his loyalty quest before activating the abduction.

Theorically, yes.
For me, the abduction always hitted after two sidemissions - if I activated Legion and talked to it immidiately when I got it.
@Baihu1983
I recommend Mordin for his incinerate is effective against both the husks and taking down the armor of Scions.
I also recommend Jack for crowd control if needed.

The only thing that gives me pause is if I remember correctly doesn't Overlord break down its mission into several assignments: one for each base.
That would screw up the attempt I think. Hmm.

I think Miranda + Any sniper with the Inciscor rifle (if you don't have that, take Grunt)

I'm in a playthrough where Garrus, Tali, Legion, Grunt and Mordin only survive in SM. Any help?

----------
Final Squadmates: Garrus, Grunt, Legion, Mordin, Tali
----------
Loyal: Garrus, Grunt, Jack, Jacob, Kasumi, Legion, Mordin, Samara, Tali, Thane
Nonloyal: Miranda, Zaeed
* You must resolve the Legion/Tali confrontation favorably. If you need help, try this.
* Side with Jack during the Jack/Miranda dispute.
* Take the paragon path during Zaeed's loyalty mission, but do not persuade Zaeed for his loyalty.
On Approach
* No armor upgrade --> Jack dies
* No shield upgrade --> Kasumi dies
* No weapon upgrade -> Thane dies
Assignments
* Send Jacob through the vents --> Jacob dies
* Take Samara with Mordin or Tali through the Seeker Swarms --> Samara dies
* You may kill Zaeed by either 1) sending him as an escort with the Normandy crew, 2) using him as the second distraction team leader, or 3) taking him with you to the final boss fight
* Final Boss + Miranda with anyone --> Miranda dies
* Hold the Line + Garrus, Grunt, Legion, Mordin, or Tali -> all live
* For the curious, the HtL score will range from 2.0 to 2.75, so no one will die.
The Rundown
1. Jack died by exploding console.
2. Kasumi died by exploding engine core.
3. Thane crushed by falling bulkhead.
4. Jacob volunteers. It was a suicide mission.
5. Zaeed walks back with the crew, everyone but him makes it back alive.
6. Samara dies by seeker swarms.
7. Miranda dies by fallen debris.

This guide worked very well for me. I had all loyal squad members and did without recruiting Samara or Morinth. I was a little worried that Mordin wasnt going to pull off escorting the crew back to the ship, but it worked out and 100% of the people survived.

So, with me now having the PS3 version of the game, I changed my idea of doing a 'Default Shep' playthrought into a revised 'Worse playthrough' (akin to one I've listed somewhere before either in this topic or Ecael's worse playthrough topic) and have worked out a way to have unloyal Zaeed and Kasumi be the only survivors (only just by the hair on Zaeed's chinny, chin chin).
This is the playthrough setup.
Loyal
Jacob, Garrus (because I don't really see either of their missions having any real 'effect' on things in ME3, although Harkin is going to be allowed to walk freely away during Garrus Loyalty mission and Jacob's dad is gonna be Hunter killed as he would've eventually been anyway).
Unloyal without mission done
Miranda (doubt it'll be really significant but who knows), Grunt (Basically to ensure Uvenk is still alive), Mordin (To ensure Clan Weyrloc is still around and Maelon still working on the genophage cure), Jack (Aresh potentially still looking at building the Teltin Facility again), Zaeed (Vido still alive and still has that facility on Zorya), Kasumi (Hock possibly still has Keiji's greybox)
Unloyal but mission screwed up
Thane (Like father, like son, Kolyat now a killer on the loose), Tali (Cleared of charges but Father stricken from the records and now Quarians really messed up
), Samara (Galaxy still has an Ardat Yakshi on the loose and soon won't be having a certain Justicar chasing her
)
Squad member not recruited
Legion... not sure whether to just leave him inactive on the ship or sell to Cerberus
Ship Upgrades None
Ship Deaths Jack (Armor), Thane (Shields, taking Tali and Kasumi to fight Occulus) and Garrus (Cannon, clearly callibrating the original Normandy cannons doesn't help him
)
Suicide Mission - Ground side
Vents - Jacob "Practically a Suicide Mission, I volunteer" ok Jacob
TL - Mordin (I know it doesn't matter who I pick, but Mordin is gonna be TL on 2nd part too so... makes sense)
Biotic - Samara (She volunteered, Miranda and Grunt as Squadmates, Grunt swarmed)
2nd TL - Mordin [i]"Tell them... I held the line!" Ok Mordin will do >
Mordin following Kirrahe path
Escort - NONE... bye bye Chakwas (rest of crew juiced)
Final Battle - Miranda and Samara, base destroyed, both squadmates dead
HtL - Zaeed, Kasumi and Tali... with an average of 3 for 3 squadmates = 1 = 1 squadmate death, bye Tali
Final Squadmates and crew alive at end... Zaeed, Kasumi and Joker.
Oh and the comic decisions will be played just like the 'Default' ME2 shep. So Wrex, Rachni and Alien Council all dead, Udina as Human elect and no LI for Shep at all in either the comic or ME2. Overlord not completed (doubt it'll matter but am intrigued as to whether there will be any reports of some rogue VI running amok), LotSB completed (because I really doubt Shep not doing it is going to change anything).

With Maelon's incredibly easy to follow Suicide Guide Flowchart, I thought a rewrite was in order. So I present a link for the New Suicide Mission Guide Thread! Suggestions welcome.
