Haven't played dwarf commoner yet, but I'm thinking I'm going to like it a lot. I love all the others equally except for Dalish Elf, which I just couldn't get into. Maybe I'm all elfed out after years of reading fantasy.
Dwarven Commoner is great to play either a reformed hero, or a Warden that blames all their faults on past environment.
The Dalish Elf story gets better as you continue to interact with Ferelden, and truly excels if you choose to help your people. I almost did not choose this as it is a default boon in the story, but was really moved by the emotion of the moment once selected. Plus I took Lil home to visit....

I think the human noble and dalish elf origins are both incredibly poignant. I love the way the camera focuses on Lord and Lady Cousland as the Warden and Duncan flee at the end of the human noble story, as if the Warden is casting one last sad look at his doomed parents and imprinting their last moments in his memory. I also really like the way the clan gathers to say goodbye to the departing dalish elf Warden and again the way she casts a last look back at her clanmates. The close of the dalish elf origin also makes wonderful use of music to capture the mood of the moment.

2) City Elf - I actually really liked this as both sexes. It's interesting how the CEM can choose wildly different responses--either a hero or a complete snivleing wuss.
3) Mage - I enjoyed the extra talking with Duncan.
4) Dalish Elf - I didn't really feel all that close to this origin, but I did like how your Keeper cares and tries to do what's best for you. The walk away, and your character's face, was also very poingant.
5) Dwarf Noble - Meh. I enjoyed it for one playthrough, but it holds no appeal for a second time.
6) Dwarf Commoner - Again, meh. I enjoyed it for what it was for one playthrough, but the more I play the game, the more pissed I get at the whole dwarven culture and don't want to be a DC.

This is why during one game, my DC insured that everyone knew what kind of a deceiptful jerk Bhelen was, then made him King anyway to save Sis, who becomes Ambassador. Then after I achieve Paragon status, Bhelen does away with the Assembly, makes the Casteless into a working force, and they all support me in my new House.

If you are only going to do it once I recommend having a save before picking a side. Bhelen has some great reunion lines that are worth hearing even if you don't plan to side with him.Caak7i wrote...
City Elf though currently doing a DN run for the first time and so far I am impressed. Heading to Orzammar so it ought to be very interesting.

1) DN. Shame I hate playing a Dwarf, as this is hands down my favorite origin. You can be a power player in End-of-the-Republic-Rome (who gets outplayed), or a genuinely noble soul surrounded by vipers. You get combat experience that feels challenging and lets you think of your character as a vetran, and you have a stake in the largest of the four treaty quests. Very nice.
2) HN. Pretty much a classic younger son loses all story, but I liked it for what it was, and it's the origin story that fits best when I want to play a Paladin type.
3) CE. Drama, pain, rage, and a wide range of options.
4) DC. Drama, triumph, and a fine start for a redemption story.
5) Mage. This is, imo, a better origin than it gets credit for. You're a prisoner in body, but better educated and with more raw potential than someone from the other backgrounds. You can see how life in the Tower could be Hell in some ways, but you can also see how it could be a refuge from a world that hates you for an accident of birth. I'd have liked more of a connection to the NPCs than I felt, but still, it worked. It's also the origin I've played through most.
6) DE. There were atmospheric moments, and it works very well if you want to play a bitter, angry outsider. Still, I can't really enjoy it. My character's choices after this origin just seem too constrained, too far from what someone who hates Humans as much as this character would do.

I have at least 30 saves right now, so it will not be a problem.

For an outright revenge story, though, I think the human noble beats out the dwarf noble. Dwarf nobility is almost exclusively relevant to one piece of the game, whereas almost everyone recognizes the status of the human noble. And while the city elf gets her revenge immediately in the origin itself, the human noble is forced to stew in his own hatred, to be continually harrassed by Howe and Loghain, before he can finally claim his revenge.

Nobles have some more fluid tie-ins than other origins. That's all.

I still don't get why 'the nobles at the Landsmeet' equates to 'everyone' knowing who you are. Aside from that you have to introduce yourself as no one knows you by sight and that's only a small part of the game as well.
Just about any human in any position of power is sure they know the Human Noble on first sight, they just aren't exactly sure where from.
