Duelest is not so good for a Archer, if you need the defense bonus know what works better? Combat Stealth.
Ranger is iffy, I personaly like it but it does require you to pick up every skill in the tree.
My favorite rogue is Ranger/Duelest lol

One thing about that article - Arrow of Slaying is never a damage loss to use. The tooltip neglects to mention that it's a double critical, and since two normal criticals will take 3.2 seconds at best, the 3 second shot time of Arrow of Slaying is always worth it.
Don't be afraid to use that melee archer talent of yours. Below the Belt actually does fairly solid damage and makes them much easier to hit, and while you can't backstab with a bow you can flank. Get combat movement and stand directly behind your targets, even if it means getting into melee with them at times.
Oh, and max stealth. Nothing is more beautiful than a guaranteed Scattershot crit on 10+ targets. I'd also recommend Bard/Assassin over Bard/Duelist as well. You'll only spend one point on the assassin skills, but Mark of Death alone beats out everything you'll get from duelist in my experience.
Thanks for the info.
What sounds pretty cool is stealth + arrow of slaying as well as stealth + scattershot. Those two seem to be a nice combo.
I read the article again ont the link and have been trying to test things out.
Currently, I have a level 9 archer and my dexterity is 33 and my cunning is 37, strength 20 and everything else default (and pluses from fade).
I think the question for me right now and how to be more effective as an archer is talents.
I put 2 points into stealth and will max that quickly.
The article makes reference to lethality, a passive talent, as giving a bonus to archery, but someone just posted that it poses a penalty.
Assassin sounds cool for Mark of Death.
Bard sounds very nice for song of courage.
I have not really tried Ranger yet, or duelist for that matter.
One thing I am struggling with as an archer is actually being an archer. I find myself constantly switching to my dual daggers and I just cant seem to crank out a lot of damage when firing arrows.
Which brings up a question: about how much damage should I be dealing with archer right now? I think I am seeing close to 30, but will have to double check.
I am just about to do the "Return to Ostagar" to get the gloves that should help with faster aiming.
I will look at my talents again and see which route I should go.
Cheers.

you may wanna go Bard/Assassin, Assassin is still good because of Mark of Death makes all damage to that target increase by +20%

You should be doing 60-80 damage lol and over a hundred per hit later if you followed the guide.
Lethality replaces str for added damage since bows are half str half dex for damage.
The point of that guide is to build a rogue that has or as close to possible 50% crit rate then you activate the AIM sustained ability which doubles your crit rate to 100% so now all your attacks are crits. Lethality is really important for Cunning builds and in almost all cases Cunning builds do the most damage for rogues due to synergy with the rogue abilities using cunning for extra damage.
As stated in the guide the problem most people have with archery is the fact that most the abilitys are worthless due to long cast times and animations. But too each there I just find it funny that the auto attack build does more damage then you can by skill spamming.
Going Bard/Assasin might as well go melee and make sure to get Lethality and pump most your points into Cunning since all the Bard and Assassing abilities rely off your Cun.

You want Combat Movement, Song of Courage, Lethality, Rank IV Stealth, and of crouse all of the Archery skills. Once you have a enough dexterity to use all of the bows in Origins, you can pretyt much ignore it unless you're solo, as party buffs will easily make up for the missing hit rating, along with the increaded flanking bonuses from Combat Movement.
I may get around to editing the archery article people love linking to to correct the info on Arrow of Slaying. Since it's a single double critical in 3 seconds it is always worth using on cooldown if you have the stamina for it, as two normal crits will take 3.2 seconds and be reduced by the armor of the target(if any remains after Armor Penetration, if you build to the Bard and Cunning route they usually won't except for the really big bosses...maybe.) twice instead of only once. With Song of Courage and Lethality, Cunning becomes your master stat until you can pick up Accuracy. Once you have Accuracy(no idea if you have Awakening or not here) Dexterity becomes extremely attractive again. No real reason to respec however, just start putting points into Dexterity again. Burst Shot is also excellent after you have it, by virtue of being a triple critical.
Oh, and I should have mentioned this before, but Surpessing Fire is stupidly good. You won't want to use it in most fights because of the insane stamina reserve for it, but it makes bosses rather helpess and impotent extremely quickly. Critical Shot is only worth using for shatters.
I highly recommend Assassin for Mark of Death over Ranger for pets. Ranger pets are good, but it's damn hard to find the stamina to sustain Song of Courage and Aim, and later Accuracy, while keeping a pet out. It removes your ability to use Arrow of Slaying and Scattershot.
Up close, you may deal out more DPS with dual wielding, even with a full on archery build. Over the course of a fight archery and dual wield tend to even out, because the archer doesn't have to spend anywhere near as much time moveing from target to target and repositioning. you will have to reposition, but nowhere near as much.

My first archer was wearing massive armor, only used one spec, and failed to get Far Song. Yet he was able to generate killer dmg, and was a lot of fun to play.
First thing I advise: forget all the min/max business. I am out to have fun; not tring to get the max yield for min investment. If you want to use 2H swords with a Rogue archer, go for it. Just be warned when asking advice that many may think your looney. Me? I am used ti it....
I still kicking the lethality tier to the curb, go with STR for at least 38 pts to wear the best heavy armor if you so desire, and add some more Willpower to fire more than one stamina dependant shot into the fracus. Because I have 4 key abilities (ie; STR, DEX, Will, Cunning), the final scores may not look as sweet as a 2H focused only on STR, but who cares if it works well. Ain't like I am trying to compete with anyone else besides myself on a solo play game.

Thanks for the great info. I will take a look into that.
Played a little last night and my arrows are doing around 30 damage per hit. I am currently level 9 with these stats:
Strength 20
Dexterity 30 + 3
Willpower 14 + 1
Magic 12
Cunning 37
Constitutation 14+2
I did get lethality and combat movement, 2 points in stealth.
Working now on filling out the archery trees.
I am thinking I need a better bow right now as what I have right now is nothing fancy.
Did complete return to ostagar to get the repeator gloves and that has definitely speed up aim.
Thanks for all the help. Really appreciate it
Cheers.

Only problem I'm running into now that I grabbed Shale, is that the auto shot seems to take foreverrrr.... like 4 seconds per shot. I was wondering if it was a PS3 bug?? OR I just never noticed it.
Anyway, I'm attempting to go for the auto-crit party with Shale's Rock Mastery, and Lel and Warden Song of Courage.
Any ideas?

Dont use anything that boosts attack speed lol, due to bugs curently most of them actualy increase how long it takes to fire. dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Ranged_Attack_Speed_Bugs

Do not become reliant on one line of support. Shale appears to be rather fragile in Rock Mastery mode, and Lil often dies quickly as her heavy dmg can draw unwanted attention. You may wish to mix things up now & again to keep you frosty. That said, if something is working; don't fix it.
My problem with Rogue is that I want all the talents, and it ain't gonna happen. One factor in my using STR 38+ is that I do not have to take any of the Lethality tier choices.

This is what I want to go for eventually. The thing is, I am not using haste, not do I have song yet. I'm running Warden Archer, Shale, Wynne, and Sten (until Lil gets Sof C)
So, no haste, just aim + Rock mastery, and I am counting 6-7 seconds between shots. Rock Mastery is supposed to increase the attack speed not lower it lol.
And yes, Shale is squishy, but I want to stack his dex instead of his strength.

My suggestion is to choose your fights for Rock Mastery tactics, rather than getting locked into a dependence on another characters support.

When I played a rogue archer I found that I always had rely on trap making to keep opponents at bay or use cone of cold & shatter with critial hits. If you want to play big damaging archer build in DA:O I think a warrior archer is a lot better as deathblow will fill your stamina pool every time you slay an opponent so you can keep spaming talents. Rogues have to rely on auto crits at high level where as a warrior can spam talents all day long because of Death Blow.
Hmm, this is not a problem for me, kiting as a rogue is easy. Crippling shot, run back 5 feet, keep shooting, dirty fighting run back 5 feet keep shooting, below the belt run back 5 feet keep shootling. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes if there is too many mobs on my tank I will run up and use dirty fighting to give my healer a chance to heal.
But your point about a warrior archer is valid because of death blow. Although I feel like the only abilities I use for dps is slaying, and crit shot (havent spec'd for scat yet.)

There may be a problem building DEX on Shale, as the golem requires high CON and STR for crystals, and even then I must run Stone Heart tier for survival purposes.

This is solid advice. Thanks for this. Not sure, maybe I will keep sten for more CC.
