Hello. I'm in the situation of having a little free time this summer, and since consoles have decided to steal all the good upcoming/new games, I'm thinking of buying a few slightly older games. Thanks to cheap, online "direct download" purchases I can probably afford a few titles (in addition I'm currently juggling Age of Conan and The Witcher EE.) A few RPG games I'm considering are KOTOR 2, NWN 2, Drakensang and Gothic 3. This being a Bioware forum, I guess NWN 2 and KOTOR 2 are the most relevant here. Already have some of the more interesting newer titles, Mass Effect, Dragonage and Oblivion.

My dilemma lies in the fact that I'm something of a graphics ****. I have for example, for the time being anyway, neglected some of the games that are considered "the best", like Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate 2 and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (though my favorite games belong to the N64, so I'm not a greenhorn or anything). Luckily though, there are people who spend time on making mods, and some of these mods happen to improve graphics.

So, can anyone know of graphics mods to these games? Verification of general availability or more exact directions are both welcome!

Drakensang doesn't really have a lot of modding going for it, especially outside of Germany. I've not seen any graphics mods for it, but any non-German version (and patched German version) will have the highest quality textures.

Not sure about NWN2 texture mods, as I've not really seen that many mods for it at all. Modders didn't seem too interested for some reason, but of course, I could be missing them all.

There are a good variety of Neverwinter Night 2 mods out there. At the moment I think there are more clothing mods than for Dragon Age. There are far fewer face and hair mods, however. Graphics wise the game looks slightly dated. Its graphics are sort of like a polished up Guild Wars. Good, but not outstanding compared to anything recent.

Drakensang's graphics are many ways the same. Both are sufficiently shiny games to hopefully satisfy your graphics lust. KotOR2 is dated enough that it might not. It also has a slew of other issues to content with. Specifically, missing content and bugs. It looks worse than Bloodlines in my opinion too, and since you passed that over, graphics may be an issue.

Ah, but didn't the Restoration Patch for KotOR2 go gold not that long ago? Might solve some of the issues with it.

For NWN2 i can recommend a tiny mod that makes the Rogue (or any dual-dagger wielder) much more interesting:

Thanks for all the replies. I actually went through some of my older games, and found that I actually have NWN 2 along with something called Spellforce, think I got a "bundle" a while back, but NWN 2 didn't work on a crappy old PC I had back then. Definitely giving it a try now.

I think I've actually played one of the Kotor games too, at least I remember an Star Wars RPG with a lot of pauses, where you start on a space ship under attack, and then you get to an are with some apartments where you try to get an elevator pass and later you must get a crystal to make a light saber at some Jedi academy. At first you just use swords of metal. This sounding like Kotor to anyone?

The graphics in it seemed pretty ok if I recall right. But anyhow, I just gave NWN 2 a try. I'm a little puzzled to be honest. It seems the default mode in NWN 2 has you controlling the game with an overhead view and clicking your characters around. I've seen similar in a few other RPGs, and I think in Dragon Age you kinda have the option between controlling from above and clicking on the ground to get your characters to move, or doing the more common WASD movement.

Is there any way of changing the NWN 2 controls so you don't have this awkward control with using the mouse in addition to WASD, allowing you a more immersive, normal third person perspective?

There's three different camera modes, and the "quick change" buttons for them are at the bottom of the screen, on the end of the first action bar. Completely forgotten what they're called, but there's three of them, I believe.
