Yep I messed up Morrigan.... great spell experimentation here guys. Only 36% complete and can't wait for my second play through to rectify my poor understanding of this games mechanics hehe.

Good posts, I'd like to defend lightning tree a bit. Tier one and two are average spells, tier 3 is a large AoE instant cast. Think earthquake but with damage, so it's rather useful. Too bad it doesn't cause knockdowns though.
Tier 4 lightning is not like the other tier 4 spells, it's true potential is small group decimation. I know I been decimated by this spell casted by opponents. Two ~ four enemies stronger than average hassling you? Chain lightning and it'll bounce between them. Even stronger if you got two opponents to chain, assuming they both survive equally long it's pretty much death for them.
So Lightning tree is decent but the other tree's tend to be better, good complement I suppose.
Oh and fireball does add a DoT even without grease since someone asked about that, never noticed Earthquake causing damage by itself.

Question: Does is Blood Control in the Blood Mage line worth it? I have heard that it aside from the fact that, yes, you control another dude, it's not very useful. More to the point, I have heard that you cannot use Blood Sacrifice on the mob controlled by Blood Control even though Blood Sac says "ally" in it's description.
Thanks for your reply,

Whatever you do, the top row...the arcane shot (whatever it is) then staff focus...etc...you may think it's trivial, but getting to the 4th one just about doubles your spellcasting power.
Is this true?

I kind of doubt it. It'd depend on the person magic score. If it really did double, or even close it, it'd be a must have.
On blood magic: You cannot sacrifice your minion. To top matters off the spell usually doesnt last that long. Considering my characters only stat that I pumped up is magic, thats a fairly sad state of affairs. I even have an item that increases blood magic effectiveness.
On lightning spells, have the developers said anything about it? Or are they happy with the way it stands. Imo it seems the weakest of the damage spells. Honestly, when I first got to chain lightning, I laughed, and started a new game. The damage seemed laughable compared to even rank 1 frost spell. (Yes chain hits multiple targets, for lousy damage though)

Virulent walking bomb can be useful if youre an arcane warrior with shimmering shield.
PS get wynne and some ranged support as only arcane warriors can take the damage of virulent walking bombs. when virulent waling bomb exsplodes it does in excess of 240 damage on hard.
Point is that an arcane warrior/spirit healer can take the damage!
PS is it just me or are the only hard fights at the later levels vs masses of melee and ranged rogue mobs with letality? crits hurt really bad, as does the very rare dispell! Ps i got 78 armour with buffs, but sometimes still get hit for an excess of 20 damage per hit. most enemies only do 1 damage though.
Maybe if i reach level 16 so i can get up that defence stat so i can resist area of effect stun from archers. Physical resist is 100 and i still get stunned!
the passive spell power talent at tier 4 is worth it, it gives 10 free spell power when i took it.
lightning spells are supposed to drain some mana as well.
i hope some patch makes shapeshifting better, and makes shimmering shield far less effective. i mean that ability is way to powerful. It needs to be toned down by alot.
Shimmering shield with 65 spellpower, maxes all resists, and grants 22 armour.
it needs to be toned down or it needs to cost 3x as much mana drain and have the spell end once mana reaches 0 like with haste and spell might.
oh and fix the dex issue with daggers and ranged weapons.
and i would love if around a 5th of the enemy mages came with the tier 2 mage talent dispel and some mage bosses had neutralization glyph talent.

I'm planning on playing a Mage when I start the game during Thanksgiving weekend -- don't have the time until then -- so I'm reading this thread with great interest (albeit some confusion, too).
I sure hope they don't nerf the class before then (if ever).

Are the damage of walking bomb different from virulent walking bomb, apart from the fact that virulent walking bomb can infect other enemies when it explode?
