So, maybe it was just the fact that I had lost acess to both spellcasters, but fighting the generals and the archdemon was freakin hard. It's not like I could go back and item up after it started either.
Anybody else get bushwhacked by the endgame difficulty?

I went into that last part with like 200 elfroot, 150 flask and a bunch of other **** and burn through ALL of the potions I made, which in total was probably around 125 (a mix of normal and lesser health potions).
Was brutal.

I was on normal difficulty, and had no trouble at all in the final areas. I beat all the generals and masses of darkspawn without even summoning my troops. Kiting and blizzard = /win.
Even the archfiend went down with no trouble, but that might be because I had 12 mages in reserves to assault it with who didn't seem to draw any attention from the thing.

Yeah, that final battle is really easy if you have the mages with you.

Well I had Allistair+me (both shield templars) and Morrigan and Wynn as badass mages. By combining Petrify, Cone of Cold, Sleep, Horror, Mind Blast, Crushing Prison, Holy Smight+ all the stuns and knockdowns available to warriors, you can basically keep a boss, or multiple elites, stunned until they are dead.
Cone of Cold is a must have I'd say. It has amazing recharge, which allows you to keep multiple enemies frozen almost all the time. It is also one of the only stuns that actually work on the Archdemon.
