As has been mentioned in the Comprehensive List of Squadmates, there is a sad lack of Grunt discussion. You can help rectify that. Discuss your love of Grunt. Discuss your indifference to Grunt. Compare Grunt to Wrex. Describe the best uses for Grunt in combat. Speculate on Grunt's future. This thread is for all things Urdnot Grunt. He is pure krogan. You should be in awe.

Grunt is probably the only squadmate that made me laugh on multiple occasions, even in dark scenes. Such as the Omega plague, where he states he's hungry after seeing the burning corpses.

I want Grunt and Wrex to brofist in ME3.

Ugh. Stupid img and url tags. Hopefully my edit shows up soon.

To get started on Grunt discussion, I'll mention where my love of Grunt stems. I've never been fond of the comparisons to Wrex. I can somewhat understand the frustration that Wrex was given a cameo role in favor of another Krogan, given just how awesome I find Wrex. However, there were people who actually killed Wrex in the first game, so they'd need an alternative anyway. It's an opportunity to show us another kind of Krogan.

Grunt is young, he is confused, he doesn't know where he belongs. All the classic feelings of a teenager. The universe is wide open to him. He has no battle stories to tell, that is up to Shepard and him to begin. Given a thousand years, Grunt could be that hardened battlemaster relaying tales of his fight against the Collectors. Describe his confrontation with the Thresher Maw. Compare him to Wrex then, maybe, but he is his own krogan now. It'd be like comparing Samara and Liara simply because they are both asari.

Grunt is also a happy krogan. He bounces with gleeful anticipation when he gets ready to fight. His enthusiasm at watching Jack's prison break is the highlight of the game for me.

For as young as Grunt is, he is still rather eloquent. His description of where Okeer failed is rather insightful. His battlecries might be simple, but you can have a rather in-depth discussion with the guy outside of that.

See? He's so happy. "Shepard, you're missing it! It's goddamn glorious! I'll climb over their bodies!"

I LOVE MY KROGAN BABY!

And as Pacifien said, comparing Grunt and Wrex is pretty useless. Wrex is an old battlemaster veteran, Grunt just entered this world.

Yeah. I don't have anything to add, Pac :)

Such is the difficulty with the likes of Grunt and Mordin and their respective support threads. They are awesome. What more is there to say?

Hehe, true enough. A lot of people think Grunt is cool, but that's that. No romance to discuss (and I'm grateful for that :P), and his personality is still not defined. He's young. I'm curious to see how he will develop in ME3. Assuming he will return, of course. *crosses fingers*

I must make every effort to make sure Grunt is not forgotten! Keep Grunt alive and in ME3--oh. Wait. I mean...

What makes Grunt pure krogan anyway? EDI says he's a perfect specimen physically, but I doubt that was all Okeer was going for. Grunt says he's descended from several great lines of krogan. Did Okeer manage to get genetic samples of these great krogan of history? Or is this what the Collectors gave Okeer? Or is it simply that Okeer used the knowledge of these previous warlords to instill in Grunt's mind? Why didn't Okeer give Grunt biotics? Not pure enough for a pure krogan? Does that mean Okeer views Wrex, a biotic battlemaster, as a mistake as well?

To be quite honest, I was not impressed with grunt at all as a squadmate and I often left him on the ship to break some more of my windows.

It wasn't until I took him to that mine with all those husks that my opinion changed. He's the only one of you squadmates who can be surrounded by husks and still be talking smack. I was having so much fun watching him fight them that I almost fogot to shoot.

I'll agree, being as young as he is, there's definate opportunity for Shepard to "mold" him into a "perfect" Krogan, not just the brawn but also the brain.

All the best traits of the Krogan race were distilled and given to grunt. His purpose is strengthen the krogan people through breeding, genophage be damned.
Basically, Grunt has a milennia of humping in store for him ;)

Not that I wish to deny Grunt the, ah, fruits of his labor, but I still don't think strength through breeding was going to help the krogan given that he still possessed the genophage. And even the best genes can still lead to a bad egg.

I gathered that Grunt was supposed to fight and reveal the strongest of krogans, leading to only these krogans being recruited into Okeer's army. Not strength in numbers, strength in strength.

Then once they destroy their enemies, it's time for a few days at the female camp.

You know, if the developers really wanted to give us something different as far as krogan go, they should make a female krogan who is fed up with being the baby making machine of the krogan's future and decides to escape into the wider galaxy to carve her own destructive path.

Grunt is easily among my favorite characters in the series, just behind Tali and Thane. There's just this childlike sense of excitement that he displays throughout the game that just makes him hilarious to listen to.

"Everyone gets a turn! Wouldn't want it any other way."

Intially I wasn't all that thrilled to hear we were getting a 'new krogan' to join the team because we already had Wrex and he was all kinds of awesome. But I realised that since there was a chance that Wrex could have died that I should accept Grunt as the 'new Wrex'.

But to be honest I ended up liking him quite a lot, at first I expected him to be just a knucklehead but he ended up having surprising depth with his backstory as a tankbred krogan made to be the best and he certainly looks quite interesting as well.

I sort of think of him as like the 'pet' of the crew because I sick him onto enemies and he happily obliges and for the most part it is a lot of fun bringing him to places and it was especially cool when he meets Wrex.

Hopefully in Mass Effect 3 we'll see both, possibly both as leaders of Clan Urdnot. I like Grunt, not as much as Wrex but he's still a great asset to the team.

Pretty much this. But I have to admit it took me 4 playthroughs to realise how great Grunt actually is. My first playthroughs I never used him except for his loyalty mission and I never bothered talking to him. What a mistake! :pinched:
I realised he actually has some interesting and sometimes fun things to say and it's also nice to see him charge through all the husks, hehe:P
Now he's always the first character I pick up =3

I actually like Grunt. He's so adorable at times, with his obsession with fighting for a fight. He's like a hyper puppy at times. I never took notice of Grunt until my second playthrough, where he was the tank and the husk magnet (until I played Insanity, he started to die more quickly XP).

But Grunt's personally is pretty interesting at times. He just seemed so thoughtful to why he has to fight. One must wonder who actually thinks about that. But what I find more attractive is how much detail he has. I mean, his head has so much scales that it's actually fascinating to look at.

Need to take Grunt to those restaurants that advertise eating something like a 72 oz. steak in an hour and your meal is free.

I have to admit, my first impression of Grunt was unfavorable based on the Omega Trailer. He came across as just some merc krogan you were going to pick up whose only desire was shooting stuff. His Blur Trailer came across as a little better because, dude, Steve Blum! But still... probably some merc krogan who doesn't care about anything other than shooting stuff.

So, okay, turns out Grunt still desires to shoot stuff, but he wasn't some random merc you were picking up. From the very first moment when you awaken him, he displays considerable knowledge of his surroundings and of his purpose. Even if he feels nothing for that purpose. He wasn't just some Wrex replacement with less brain cells and more shooting. He was his own personality, and it was a good one.

Does anyone know what happens if you don't release Grunt? I know, if you do you get a letter from TIM, if you do,if I remember correct.

Pretty much. I just figured Okeer was nutso. We still get Grunt though, and he's awesome so meh.
To be honest I've never really understood what the hell Okeer was talking about.

I asked for clarification elsewhere, but I think nothing happens if you leave Grunt in the tank. Not even an email from the Illusive Man saying "If you're not going to use the thing, can I have it?"

I think you can even wake Grunt up after the suicide mission. I know you can do loyalty missions after the suicide mission.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened had you been able to pick up Okeer as well. Like have him as a NPC who hangs in the lab with Mordin, but you can take Grunt on missions. Professional rivalry between the krogan and salarian? Oh, get a loyalty confrontation between the two much like Jack/Miranda and Legion/Tali?

I don't know what Okeer would have been able to add to the mix. He had some knowledge of the Collectors, but even Grunt will say you've gained more knowledge about the Collectors than Okeer ever had. Wrex implies Okeer had a pretty ruthless reputation, so he must have been good for something in his prime. Though he seemed to be slumming it with the likes of Jedore.
