Any other Daveth fans? (minor spoilers related to him)

Both in his cutscene dialog and his available conversations, he comes through as clever, good-natured, and oddly philosophical for a common thief. (Okay, and saucy towards women, but he's utterly easygoing whatever your reaction is.) Choosing the Grey Wardens over getting hanged was a no-brainer, but when he talks to Jory he comes up with direct and practical reasons to fight the Blight - it's a matter of maybe dying to save everyone you care for vs. certainly dying as the Blight destroys everything. Plus, he's clearly used to scraping an advantage out of any terrible situation he gets into.
He faces the danger of the Joining straight-on, with considerably more grace than I'd have taken it.
I felt worse about his death than about any other early-game character I've ever known. Was anybody else really impressed by him?

A; wants to abort his first mission before he had even seen one darkspawn, even though killing them is written in big red letters in the Grey Warden job description, and
B; chickens out on the Joining, going so far as to turn his blade on his Commander.
No.I don't like Jory at all. But Daveth is awesome. Rest in peace, man; you were just to cool to live.

He was brave when he could use his blade on something but the unknown terrified him. It was also funny to watch the switcherroo between Daveth and Jory at the thought of meeting Flemeth. Jory was rather blase about it when Daveth says "she'll put us in the pot" and he responds "At least its warmer than this forest"
I too think Jory is given too little credit though I still don't like him, he's not cowardly he was just facing something so far out of his comfort zone (blood/blood magic) that he couldn't accept it. Everyone has their breaking points and that it would seem was his.
The fault lies with Duncan who should have screened him a bit better but *shrug* perhaps the Blight wasn't allowing him the luxury of picking and choosing.
Anyways, I thought Daveth would have made an awesome GW, mentally he had the right stuff, the resilience to deal with the whole thing and the courage to back it up...though he probably would have died at Ostagar if he hadn't died at the Joining anyway.
Daveth and Jory strike a pose:

That was the line that sealed the deal for my dislike of him. It was just a really stupid thing to say.

Bravely bold Ser Jory rode forth from Redecliffe.
He was not afraid to die, O brave Ser Jory!
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Ser Jory!

Even though it would've been nice if he survived the joining, having another rogue in the party besides Leliana and Zevran would've been too much IMO.He will be missed.

Hmm, I for one would've loved to be able to conduct a full party of rogues. Full stealth... ooohh, that would've been great.
And yes, Daveth was really great. His speech towards Jory prior to the joining was a good indicative of the type of character he was. But the joining had to be brutal in order to make it clear to the player that being a Grey Warden was serious business.

In my world, Daveth did survive. He din't really drink, and faked his death. Once he was able, he went back to the village nearby, which happened to be Lothering. There, he grabbed his sister, brother, and mother and fought his way out, till he ran into Flemeth as a dragon. The rest we know as the story of the Champion... btw, his last name which wasn't given, is Hawke.

I've thought about that myself- that you get a good sense of Daveth's past (albeit odd to have been conscripted after pickpocketing since he hasn't got a single skill point in it on recruitment)
Obviously, that's how he got caught.
Yet, I too thought Daveth would have been a good character to keep. Especially after getting Zevran. 3 dual-wielders equals win. (I usually just let Leliana stick with the archery since that's what she starts with).

If Daveth has a full voice set, which is possible, then perhaps a quick edit to his character, and he can be added in like Gilmore.
Or not....
He was a great character, and I too, replayed the joining scene a couple of times hoping he would make it.
I think he would be a great character to develop in game..... And a positive addition to any team.

I like him more every time I replay the game and wish he could hang out. I'd gladly give up Leliana for him.

I was thinking about just slapping a headmorph of Daveth onto Nathaniel Howe. Seems we don't get to look at him as much.
