I just purchased Mass Effect for PC on Steam last Saturday during their 75% off sale ($5.00 bucks for such a great game, couldn't pass that deal off), and encountered a bizarre glitch involving the character textures. Here's the best screenshot I could get (I've since uninstalled the game):

Obviously, the facial issues are most prominent, but if you look at Shepard's weapons and neck, you can notice lines going down them. This also appears on armor, and certain body parts (Hands especially on humans) show lines going horizontally down the fingers, similar to those going down Shepard's neck. These issues appear on all characters, even aliens like Turians and Salarians. Although on the alien races, the lines appear going down their faces instead of the weird effect on human faces.
Now for the weird part: I started up Mass Effect 2 last night, just to start a new game out of boredom, and the problem was there, too. I have never had this problem with ME2, and when I last had ME1 (A friend's copy) on this computer, the problem wasn't there either. I uninstalled ME1, and removed all of my save files from it, and started a new game in ME2. It was still there.
Has anyone encountered this bizarre glitch before? Or am I the only one? Either way; any idea on how to fix it?

Do you have a nVidia videocard with the latest 257 drivers? Do a rollback, they are known to cause heavy issues in Mass Effect 2.

Windows isn't giving me the option to rollback the driver. Its grayed out. Nvidia's website says you can't rollback if you've uninstalled the previous driver.

Just manually re-download the previous driver release and install it. The Windows "Rollback" feature is a joke anyway, I find.

I'm working on doing so. The first driver I downloaded was from January, and it had some... interesting side effects, aside from my screen going beyond my monitor's physical existence. ME2 doesn't even run now, telling me that Direct3D can't start because the computer is locked... I think I'll just try a more recent one.

Apologies for double-post; But its working now. The drivers just need a 2nd restart for whatever reason to get working properly. The issue in-game is gone. Thanks a lot for your help!

Obiviously they havent fixed this...I am having the same issue with the 266.58 and the newest 270.61 Nvidia drivers, on both ME1 and ME2. Also my sound doesnt work right.

Considering noone else on these forums knows anything about your system, may I suggest you go off, read the "How to report" thread, and then come back and post your details?

seeing as how I was not asking for help, just commenting that similar issues to those posted above are still occurring with the lastest nvidia drivers, no I dont feel the need to go to the how to report thread

Take it up with Nvidia. They are the ones that stopped supporting their older cards. Though to be fair those cards are very much outdated now anyways.

THEREFORE, you were simply OFF-TOPIC. Really, really simple. For opinions, you take those elsewhere. In here, just as it says, gamers are trying to help other gamers. It's a SELF-HELP place, not a complain, cry, and whine kind of a place. We also do not enjoy seeing our graveyards dug into and the old corpses spilled out of their coffins merly on a whim. Grave desecration is a terrible crime.AvengerCTC wrote...

Because it is what it is (the forum), the description of how to report IS what is on topic, and I don't say that because my name is shown as the author of that sticky. Chris Priestly wrote it for the ME-2 forum, and I edited it to suit ME-1 as well.
