If I kill Ser Cauthrien will I still be able to visit the prison section later on, so that I don't miss out on any looting I would've gained through the 'Captured!' quest?

I mean, if I kill her when she tries to arrest me at Howe's estate

You will go to this area again, but it don't know if it's the same map or another version. But there isn't so much looting there, at least it doesn't beat the corpses of Cauthrien troups by far.

You can defeat her, then allow yourself to die (ie; be captured). and then gain the opportunity to see her again. They raise both of you, plus she has another sword.

Sure, you can kill her, but you still have to lose the fight. So, you can kill her and all her guards minus one, "die," and be captured. That's probably the highest exp/loot way to go.

Does anyone know if the guard occupied in Vaughn's bedroom counts as a possible suriving captor? I almost made it thru the remaining ambush with my 2H, and let the AI take over to kill me.

@Mars: If you want to see the prison, you have to lose to Cauthrien the first time. There are some unusual interactions possible during the escape/rescue that some folks really like, and you still get a chance to fight Cauthrien a second time.

@Elhanan: The "survivor" has to be from Cauthrien's initial posse, since you either win that fight (knock them all out, then slit their throats) or lose that fight (leave at least one conscious with all your folks knocked out at zero HP). I didn't have that much "fun" with the prison portion, so I've always just killed Cauthrien and taken her first sword. Next playthrough I'm planning to do the "kill almost everyone, then allow myself to be captured" routine.

The Captured quest is worth it. When you go in, get Sten and Dog to come after you. Sten will then have the most amazing line in the game:

"I am a giant with a war dog. I am either making a delivery, or besieging your fort. Pray it is the former."

And, if you pull it off right, you can get Dog to provoke a fight between two random guards:

"He wouldn't have bitten you if you weren't such an ass!"

There are many other combinations that are equally good, but that particular setup is my personal favorite.

As for actually getting there, as everyone said, kill all but one guard. At that point, just to be safe, I'd disable everyone's tactics, set their behavior to Cautious, then unequip all their equipment. With no weapons, no armor, and no will to fight, they should go down pretty quickly. Especially if you put them on hold.

@flagondotcom - Thanks for the tip!

I enjoyed the Ogren/ Zev circus breakout team once, and enjoyed seeing Morrigan play the Chantry priestess with Lil in my last prison visit. I would advise viewing Captured at least once, and let your team shine for change.

I really have to do a playthough with Dog in my party all the time!

In the Captured scenario, Sten+Dog or Zevran+Ohgren are the most hilarious combonations.

Best option = Kill Ser Cauthrin, loot her and get her sword, then die and be captured.

Best option would be to allow Anora to remain there, but no XP for that one....

At the start of the Captured quest you wake up in a cell. You can tell the man in the cell next to you who you expect will come to rescue you. That's how you select the companions who will be your rescuers.

I know.. I did that, not knowing that I'd have to be those people to rescue me. It was Alistair in the cell with me and I was trying to console him by saying people he liked, but I do can't stand using them.

Well if you don't have a save before you named the rescuers then you'll just have to fight on with them. But don't fret, it's only a handful of encounters, and a couple of them can simply be talked past if you have charismatic characters. Just keep going straight and then head right when you hit the T junction. You'll have the warden and Alistair back with you in no time.
