It's not possible. Not without modding.

1) On your very first playthrough of Mass Effect, you're limited to level 50. This is 238,100 experience points.
2) To get from level 50 to level 60 on the second playthrough would require an additional 624,000 experience points. Is that possible? Possibly...

But wait, what if you're starting with another playthrough after you've already unlocked level 50?
People who are very thorough have mentioned reaching level 57. (I've done that myself, at least.) This requires 462,100 experience points. To get to level 60 from that point requires an additional 400,000 experience points, about as much as you needed to get to level 57.

What can I do to maximixe my experience points?
1) Cheat.
2) Do every single quest possible.
3) Do not kill with the Mako. Use the Mako to reduce a larger enemy's health, but get out of the vehicle and finish them off on foot. You'll double the experience gained.

Where are you getting all these numbers?
The Mass Effect Wiki. Yes, sometimes a wiki's information can be wrong, but this one is right as far as I can tell. Experience Guide.

At a guess, a response to all the "Can I make it to level 60 in one play through" threads that keep popping up like weeds.

I hope this joins the hidden cutscene thread and gets stickied for some time. Lots of people need to realize this.

It's impossible without cheats.

My record is with my 2nd character in one playthrough is from 1 to 50.

Updated the original post since a recently necro'd thread did show getting from level 50-60 was possible in one playthrough.

This can be remedied easily.
In the DefaultGame.ini search for the code line: m_fVehicleExpScaleFactor=####
Change this to as high a number as you want and presto more XP for your kills while in the Mako.

Note: Setting the code to: m_fVehicleExpScaleFactor=9835.6 will take your directly to Level 60 after one successful kill in the Mako. Granting all talent points that you will ever get (50-75) on that character. So be sure to save your Charm and or Intimidate points.

I think that qualifies under cheating. :)

But good advice all the same, especially for those really just looking for an ME1 playthrough to import.

Maybe, still I consider it tweaking. For if set to: 500 - 1000 it doesn't max out to Level 60. I don't feel I should be docked XP for wanting to stay safe in the Mako when rocket turrets will kill me in one blow. Thats exactly why I set it to that. Working on three playthroughs for ME2 right now.

With DLC, I've gotten to 52 in one playthrough...I think. I got to 50 before Ilos because I wanted the mark X spectre gear.

The better question is:

Is it faster to Level 60 just doing main-mission only playthroughs compared to two complete ones?

Hmm. I did do a speed through in less than ten hours.... Don't know what level I was in the end. 40 maybe.

Indeed, that is exactly what I've always wondered.  That is especially important to me because I play ME on the 360, so I can't use the ME saves site.

One carry over, my Vanguard, I made to play through Veteran, then Hardcore, and finally Insanity.  The first playthrough, I did EVERY LAST SIDEQUEST.......  why the hell did I do all that on my 1st of 3 planned playthroughs, especially since I had planned to do the full run on my final carryover playthrough, I don't know.  I reached level 56 at the end of that initial playthrough (i didn't have all the achievement xp bonuses unlocked yet).  The next playthrough on Hardcore I just ran through only doing the side missions on the Citadel and few key others.  I don't recall if I hit 60 at the end of that 2nd run or 59.  At that start of the third, final, complete insanity run, I was just so tired of playing the same thing with the same class, I shelved the game for a little bit.  It was only after ME2 had been sitting in my pile of shame for 2 weeks that I finally finished that last complete runthrough for my first, and still only, level 60 carryover.

I've played through ME1 numerous times recently... i really wish I could use the ME saves site.  Knowing the answer to the original question quoted in this post... the next best thing Posted Image

Recently I had started what was to be my next lvl 60 carryover ME1 Shepard, an Renegade Infiltrator, so was just going to do a speedthrough for the first 2 runs, and though enjoying the playthrough with a fresh class, realized I did not want to do 3.  So I just put 6 points in Intimidate (with 4 free earned during this run would bring the total to 10, all that's needed for convo checks), and playthrough doing only sides missions on hub worlds and those that were listed as having carryover into ME2.  I had the playthrough set to Hardcore, since it's only one might as well make it a little interesting.  That runthrough I finished at level 54, way more than I thought I would get to.

Point is; I'd take starting at lvl 3 in ME2 for one relaxed ME1 playthrough, instead of 3 reptitive ones.

Does this get flagged as cheating??? Sounds good to me, I REALLY don't want to need a 3rd playthrough for lvl 60

The most I have gotten is lvl 57 (usually 56 but 57 early on Eden Prime). Level 60 is only part of the game, so is 12 Charm/Intimidate dialogue levels. IF you do not want to spend talent points on them, then it will take 3 play-throughs. Personally I rather have higher powers, so I go for 3 on the character that I want to import to ME2 (remember that you CAN change class when importing). You just have to get all the dialogue choices correct, NOT kill too many NPCs to get ME2 to be correct ... we'll have to see what BW has in store for ME3 when it shows up (maybe have to replay AGAIN from ME1 then ME2?).

The whole thing is that if you're editing the ini files, you're probably playing on pc anyway. So why not just use the console to give yourself the xp and talent points?

Personally, I think the biggest benefit you get from importing a character from ME1 to ME2 (besides influencing certain events, of course) is the credit bonus you'll get from the Rich achievement and the paragon/renegade bonus you'll get based on your paragon/renegade bar.

Though there is the Extreme Power Gamer achievement for reaching level 60, but how extreme are you, really, if you modify the game solely to get the achievement? :P

I only did this after my 3rd playthrough of ME1, was getting bored having to wait on points for me and my squadmates (no console code for them).

9 ME1 Playthroughs (All sidequests and all DLC done). Now I can take Garrus and one new squadmate on seperate playthroughs to the end of ME2 (barring that they survive).

Thought I'd give the thread a bump since I added the link to the ME wiki that gives a table of the experience points needed to reach each level.
