So I just finished watching this really crappy film called Daybreakers.  The premise is about how a global plague has turned the majority of people into vampires while the last vestiges of mankind are now being farmed for their blood.  Apparently, the transition to vampirehood hasn't hurt coporate America as there is an advertisement in this film for a real life product in just about every friggin scene.
Ethan Hawk plays as a vampire, but as you'd expect coming from such an actor he's more of a p*ssy than your typical vampire and therefore feels sorry for his food source, feeding only on animal blood.  Basically, he's a vampiric equivalent of a vegan.
He works for some big evil vampire corporation that wants to develop synthetic blood or something to compensate for the ever dwindling number of humans.  This is especially bad since vampires who lack blood turn into these nosferatu looking naked bat vampires.  Of course this little plot detail never amounts to anything in the film at all.
Why are human numbers dwindling?  I don't know.  You'd think that vampires could easily breed more humans through artificial insemination but for the sake of plot convenience we'll just accept the fact that they're dying.

Then later on in the movie by some miracle Ethan Hawke manages to get into a near collision with a band of human survivors who are not just random bystandards but also part of an underground vampire resistance movement led by a former vampire who was cured of his vampirism by dousing himself with water after being exposed to sunlight, possibly the dumbest explanation I have ever heard.
Then later on to the next plot contrivance we find out that the blood of former vampires is itself a cure and then after some gratuitous scenes of vampires tearing themselves apart we see Ethan Hawke and a bunch of other characters nobody gives a damn about ride off into the sunset saying they have a cure, THE END!

In conclusion, it was a crap film with a bunch of worthless underdeveloped characters, product placement, and a trite contrived plot.

Hollywood continues to suck.

You're wrong, it sucked.  I will say it wasn't quite as bad as the Underworld movies but it wasn't a huge improvement.

What I thought was especially funny in Daybreakers was that scene in the hospital when they were telling that vampire soldier to breathe when he was getting vampire acne or whatever the Hell that was.

Vampires are undead, they don't even have a pulse so why in the Hell would they need to breathe for any other reason than to create speech?
That is what I hate about vampire movies like Blade, Underworld and this one.  They take the supernatural and try to blend it with science and it just doesn't work together.

Get it? Vampires?

Well those weren't terrible in my book either. So that means Daybreakers is better yes? I think I will buy it with your recommendation. Thanks Busomjack!

Yes you are,  not all opinions are of equal merit.  I don't doubt that you enjoyed the film, I only find contention with your outrageous claim that it's a good movie.
I enjoy some bad movies too like Battlefield Earth but no way in Hell would I ever call it a good movie.

What? Wait wait what? Because how would you explain the air coming out in speech? Breathing is part of your speech.

Also I agree with randumb. Watch it, it was awesome. Not perfect but if you want these types of vampires before Twilight ones... which I am guessing Busom loves as he also hates Underworld. I thought the prequel was amazing. And I'm a big critic.

Next thing he'll say is District 9 sucked and Avatar rules.

Because when the guy was going into a cardiac arrest or whatever the Hell it was Ethan Hawke said "breathe!"
Why in the Hell would breathing though matter for a vampire when breathing is not a vital necessity for their existence? Especially since we don't even know what in the Hell is happening to this vampire in the first place.  That is why I hate so many Vampire movies, they try to combine the supernatural with science and it just falls flat.  I prefer sources like Vampire The Masquerade that don't try to offer a scientific explanation for anything.
I didn't watch the Underworld prequel, I watched the first one which sucked despite Kate Beckinsale's scroggability being through the roof.  I walked out of Underworld Evolution(wow, what a creative title).

Obviously I didn't bother with the third movie whatever it was called.

For the record, I actually kind of liked District 9 and hated Avatar so nice assessment there of my tastes.

You'd think if I were trying to troll I would bash on a more popular movie.  I haven't heard anyone defend this POS film before now.

Sooo... no one else is allowed to take creative license with the vampire legend I take it?

Did you like Twilight? I think it was a bit cheesy, but the acting was Bogart level.

It would make sense if they explained vampirism as a condition which effects the living like in I Am Legend, but no.  Vampires are undead in this film and we even see the asystole of the patient in the lab room.

1. Vampires
Human breathe how do you intend to hide that? "Oh, chest is moving because of the blood?"
'Immortality', no way. Everything dies even in the supernatural. The Greek and Romans knew this. Life without number yet they're gods died by the hands of others. That was the exception, same with vampires.
Who said vampires don't breathe? And even if they did there are lots of different take on vampires. Every movie is different. Every story is different.

2. Underworld
There's barely anything creative in Hollywood. The tittle may have been "bad" but it wasn't tghe worse. So "Evolution" at least it wasn't  "Jame's Cameron's Avatar" what an awesome movie name. And the name comes from the evolution of the Lykan and Vampires.

3. You suck
Get over it

Well the audience is kind of to blame. In recent years all people want out of movies is "realism" so to take on something like vampirism is tough for film makers because they have to cater to these realists while trying to make it "magical", and they often fail.

Zombies breathe, even if they don't need to. Why do I say that? The famous zombie moan, groan, roar, growl whatever it is in a movie. It's what it is.

And yes, they took it in a creative way. They explain it as an evolution. Did you not pay attention?

1.It's called effective cinematography, something as subtle as breathing can easily be hidden. I don't think an explanation is needed as to why Vampires would not need to breathe being that they're walking corpses. Vampires are supernatural creatures and thus any attempt to add a scientific twist to it like Blade, Underworld, and so many other crappy Vampire movies do falls flat on it's face.

Edit: A zombie grunts and moans because it has no control over it's basic motor functions since it's not a sentient being.  A vampire however is and therefore would not need to breathe unless it was to speak.  For a zombie it makes sense, but for a Vampire it's just damn stupid.

Underworld sucked not just because of the title, it sucked because the plot was pure dog **** and everything looked incredibly cheesy.

Just because you did't liked it does not mean it sucked.
