The original post to this thread has some trollish characteristics. Wouldn't you say?:D

I'm a male, and I have two characters (though several playthrough's). My primary is the default male Shepard, a Paragon Soldier. My secondary is a female Renegade Infiltrator, with whom I'm currently replaying ME2. In my opinion, if you don't try out female Shepard at least once, you are missing out. I'd say more, but this is a spoiler-free section.

He's just stating what his friends mentioned and wants our thoughts on that.

I'm male and I play femShep. I prefer Jennifer Hale's voice acting, and the fact that Shepard is female, makes the character less of a generic-space-hero cliché for me.

I think FemShep strongly disagrees that it's a problem.

No, it's completely true. If a man plays a female shepherd, within a few months or so his voice will shift upwards roughly half an octave, won't need to shave, and will become concerned about whether his shirt matches the rest of his outfit. On the plus side, he'll stop and ask directions if he gets lost driving around.

I had a similar experience after my BoyShep run-- I'd throw dirty clothes in the middle of the bedroom floor, leave the dishes in the sink in the hopes they would clean themselves, and explained to the world at large how I would have done any given athletic thingee had I been the one playing on that professional team. Fortunately, two FemShep runs later, I lost any urge to crush old beer cans on my forehead.

So thats why I'm wearing a bra now. Damn.

I certainly hope it's not a big deal, because if it is I've sunk 250+ hours into something that's not good for me. I've probably seen every option ME1 offers except going Renegade at the end of Noveria (just can't do it), and always through female Shepard's eyes.

The first computer I owned predated the internal hard drive and the color monitor, to say nothing of starting on consoles with the Atari 2600. I've played about a million games in which I'm Generic Male Space Marine #whatever saving the galaxy. I like the way the narrative flows with female Shepard, much the way I liked playing a female Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3.

And Mama Shepard loves The Littlest Krogan. :D

Is it really that big a deal? I have friends that have said its stupid and that Jen Hale can't act (disagree) and that there is no gameplay differences or dialogue and that everyone knows that Shep is male.

Hale is alright as long as your not Renagade. She can't make any of those lines sound ok.

Your friends are right, men playing female characters are weird! I remember laughing for days at some guy who played "Tomb Raider" or "Metroid". Sicko! I don't even give orders to female squadmates, because it is just strange. Even having them in the party makes me feel uncomfortable. One time, while playing Dragon Age, my only living character in a battle was Morrigan. I put down the controler, left the room and waited for her to die. Because if you play a female character, your penis falls of!

I'm a guy. When playing roleplaying games i tend to make my character as much like me (physically) as possible. When playing i react to situations the way i would if it were really happening to me. This usually entails me making what most people would view to be the "paragon" choice.

I like to see things the other way around too. For this i always create a female character. I get so immersed in the gameworld, that in order to not act the way i would, i need to cut that physical link with my character, and the best way to do that is to give the character a uterus.

I'm sure some pop psychologists might try to infer that i have women issues... but that's not the case.

It was not sarcasm. It's a video I like and I liked his post and made me think of the song. You should adjust yours.

I'm a guy and I play Female Shepard, I don't see the problem with men playing female characters.

However, I'm not one of the guys who argue which Shepard has a better voice actor.

I have always played a femShep in ME, partly because I think Jennifer Hale is a better voice actress and partly because there have been enough guys saving the galaxy already ;)

Much as I enjoy staring at a man's ass for hours, I usually play as femShep for the aesthetic value.

What's a femshep? Is that the mythical female version of commander Shepard that I often hear people talking about? Strange...

I play as Femshep more than male shep. In all my rpg style games i play as female. its just somthing different, i think it's cool when the hero or whatever is a girl.

I totally agree, most of the time I paly as Femshep and if I do play as a male it's the default Shep.

Femshep is much easier on the eyesImage IPB

Unless you are very young, insecure, or just generally immature, there should be no problem with playing a Shepard of the opposite gender. You're not going to get 'girl cooties' from FemShep. I play Shepards of both genders, all classes, and varying degrees of Paragon and Renegade. I also try to select a romance for each character that makes sense for that character (in one case that means the character avoids romance). For this game to really utilize its inherent replay value, exploring all the variables makes the most sense.

Well, female gamers have to play as male characters in most games...no one questions if this is weird.

I'm male.

I find generic male space marines boring. I prefer the character of Commander Shepard as a woman. Superior dynamics.

IMO, FemShep > DudeShep.

That's not even putting the voice acting into consideration.

No, it's not that big a deal and nobody apart from your friends ever made that claim. In fact, I'm willing to bet a good portion of the males on these boards use femsheps.

Yup, I always use femsheps. I like the fantasy of a female heroine over a male one
