Some people feel that Hale is a superior voice actor to Meer.

I do. She has greater range in the emotions she portrays. Meer can sound monotonous at times.

Yeah, Meer should have voiced Legion instead of Shepard.

Hale's performance is definitely the superiour; but I do think Meer is capable.

Just a shame that so little of the intonations and altering pitch he displays above is enclosed in either game.

Both voice actors are great in there own way. Meer kicks ass. Hale kicks ass.

That said, I'm a dude and I prefer femshep because I like Mass Effect's story with a female lead character.

I don't think Meer has much say in how he voices Shepard...I would imagine he takes direction from someone at BW?

Thus, while he is a capable VA and can add some 'emotion' to his dialog, he was probably directed to go the more monotone route by the powers that be at BW.

Well, Meer is talented, no denying that. I should try looking up some clips of him doing standup.

Bah! Who cares what gender your Shepard is. It's a video game! If the OPs friends are that homophobic about it, just turn it around and point out they're the ones wanting to stare at Mark Vanderloo's ass for 30+ hours.

Agreed.  Played both ME games with dudeshep and femshep, and even though it's the same story, it seems more interesting when a woman is being dropped into the role typically filled by the same generic male action heroes.

I would love to see this soundtrack used as a basis for a Sheploo monologue, with quizzical reaction shots from the Normandy squad.

Same here. I have several Shepards of both genders, but I prefer FemShep overall.

I play both, but my first and main will always be a femshep.

So if I say sexist comments, I'm just trolling.

Back to the kitchen, all of you.

I always felt if you don't play these games twice, one male and female run, and one paragon and renegade run, your not experiencing mass effect fully. I use both, but I'll admit my first run through in both parts 1 and 2 were female paragon, and my second a male renegade. I also think both Meer and Hale have their moments in the games. However I prefer female, just because there are not enough games with butt kicking women in lead roles. I don't find it wierd to see someone playing as the opposite gender. Hell, I've watched movies and read books that starred a member of the opposite sex, and it didn't deflate my masculinity in one bit.

I started a femshep in ME1 then I nerd raged when she picked up Kaiden. It's like weight distribution doesn't matter anymore. It's hard enough for me to put up with FTL.

No offense, but I have to say that's the most ridiculous complaint directed at Mass Effect I've ever heard.

Uhm, is it that hard to imagine a athletic woman could carry an almost equaly sized man around? Well, honestly, your picture of physical abilities of women is not only a little bit off...

Your friends' opinions were invalidated when they claimed Mark Meer to be a better VA than Jen Hale.

^This. Jennifer Hale rocks. So much. She's an excellent voice actress. I'm playing paragon, but her renegade lines are one of the best things in ME ^_^

Agreed.  I am a male and I have used both male and female Shepards.  As a personal preference I enjoy Jennifer Hale's voice acting better.  This is in no way a bashing on Mark Meer, who I think does a fine job as the male Shepard.  I just like Jennifer's style better.

Yeah, I knew it would come to this. Now I have to explain what I meant. Happens everytime I mention it.  thought saying weight distirbution would let people know I wasn't talking about strength. I guess I was wrong.

Her arms are way smaller than his body. It would be incredibly difficult for her to balance him on her shoulder. Nothing to do with strength. It would just be incredibly awkward. I mean she doesn't even use her other arm. In all honoesty Maleshep should use his other arm to balance him.

I'm guessing some women could pick up a full grown man.  :wizard:

Edit: I see what slidel is saying. Perhaps the scene doesn't look convincing physically speaking.

None taken, I know it's ridiculous. But it annoys me. Like when people say PIN number or ATM Machine.

If MaleShep's voice sounded like Meer's does in that clip (like a real person), I'd be much more interested in playing him.

FemShep's voice, I think suits a wider variety of personality types.  MaleShep is always just a generic meathead.

I like Mark Meer's voice.  I can't stand his performance as Shepard.
