back Allistair and Morrigan to the edge of the room

Just out of curiosity (and probably some ignorance) why would you have anybody in your party if you are soloing the game?

Because before you get a small ways into Lothering, you are not afforded an opportunity to remove them from the party.

Very interesting read. I have some questions, though. I noticed that you only picked up Combat Magic from the Arcane Warrior line. Is the rest of it too strong for a challenge or simply outshone by other spells? Also, what was your second specialization?

I didn't want to go the sustained spells/autoattack route with arcane warrior, so I had no need to pick up anything but Combat Magic. Combat Magic is just to allow me to equip massive armor, as I find it more suitable than the mage only equips.

Second specialization was Blood Mage, but I only took it for the stat bonuses. I cannot use Blood Magic, as it ruins my 100% damage contribution. (because friendly fire damage is counted against you)

I'm basically playing this as a normal spell casting mage, as opposed to some variation of a warrior. I'm using heavy armor for armor and mana regen and fatigue reduction, which allows me to sustain spells without having a large fatigue and offers good mana regeneration to counteract the loss from Spell Might. (which oddly mage only equipment for those same slots does not)

Have you considered Shimmering Shield? It doesn't need Combat Magic active to use, and it provides a bunch of defensive bonuses that might help you survive longer. You wouldn't be able to have Spell Might active at the same time, but you also don't need Combat Magic active too use it.

Yeah but that sucker drains mana like crazy and turns itself off when you run out. The fight is a long fight, lots of running around, recasting glyphs, slowly wearing enemies down 1 at a time. I rely on my mana regen (I always have to turn off spell might for fights like these) to get me through, and with a -10 mana regen penalty (that's practically all of my mana regen, if not more) I just can't sustain it and keep casting spells.

Fair enough. I just thought I'd at least throw it out there.

If you are not taking further AW buffs, you may want to consider Spell Might/Rock Armor combo as a buff; believe I read that once cast it is at higher functionality.

Hmm, Rock Armor could be good, since it gives 30+ armor to me now. I tried it at earlier levels when my spellpower was much lower, but I'm somewhere around 125 now, so the bonus is starting to be significant.
