So I've been away from the DA modding community for quite some time however I'm getting Awakening soon and figure that may encourage me to start modding again.  I just have a few quick questions:

-Can Awakening content (enemies mostly) be used in standalone modules?  If so, can only players who own Awakening play those modules?

-How much of Awakening's content is available for modding?  Are the files encrypted like the DLC?

-If this is indeed encrypted, is there any chance of Bioware later opening it up for modders?

1) Any mods that use Awakening resources will require Awakening.

2) and 3) Awakening is not, I repeat not, encrypted, so it is simply a matter of Bioware including the resources in the next toolset update.

That's good to hear, although I must admit having the Awakening content exclusive to those people who own it does mean that mods may be limited in scope if they want to be available to as many people as possible.

I think it'd be cool if Bioware released an Awakening Modding Package of some sort that allowed DA:O players to still play mods that include the content. Otherwise I know that I'll certainly be hesitant to include a cool new enemy into a module if I know that doing so will not allow a bunch of people to play it. (Skills and Abilities would be less important here, as would Locations)

We had exactly this situation on NWN. Once Bioware released the expansion content, players had to buy the expansion in order to play mods made with it.

Most of us were happy with that - after all, Bioware's entitled to a return on investment.

One improvement I'd like to see is that if Awakening is ever withdrawn, owing to being bundled with DAO, that DAO standalone should be withdrawn at the same time. When mods are a selling point for a game, It's disappointing to find that you bought a version that doesn't allow you to play most of the community content.

I'm not sure that Bioware has much influence over that sort of distribution issue, though.
