Why not Vindi/Mantis? Mantis still possesses great damage with a properly placed headshot.
Revenant/Viper or Widow/Vindicator Soldier?

If you're going to stick with sniper rifles, though, why restrict yourself to the Mantis when you can have the Widow? The Viper at least provides is different style of sniping.

From my point of view both Vindicator/Mantis and Vindicator/Widow have serious ammo issues. I go through them fast and often end up with both empty. Vindicator/Viper combo is less forgiving of missing shots while still maintaining a decent damage output.

Sorry, put wrong Ar, I meant Revenant/Mantis.Mantis is great for taking out priority targets/burst damage from cover, and Revenant has much, much ammo with admirable dps.

This is a pretty good question. I personally go with Rev/Viper when I'm a Soldier. I save the Widow for Infiltrator. Vindicator is awesome for accuracy, but I don't like the low amount of ammo it holds. I'll take laying down some serious suppression fire with the Revenant.
I got an addendum to this question for everyone out there. Has anyone tried using the Viper with the Geth Pulse Rifle (acquire from Tali's recruit mission on Hardcore/Insanity difficulty)?

In the end, it's preference. You can argue dps values all day, but the fact is that dps doesn't make an incredible difference if you play decently.
That said, I've tried both, and fared much better with the Rev. I didn't need to use any other weapons except on very rare occasions, which seemed to go against the idea of a soldier's arsenal. Can't argue with the results though.
In conclusion: do both. Or mod your game and do Revenant/Widow...

I've never really had a problem with my ammo on the Mantis and Widow, but I only play a sniper as an Infiltrator. Tactical Cloak does wonders for running across the battlefied picking up ammo without someone shooting at you.STG wrote...

Revenant. It is unique and it is more aggressive. It fits adrenaline rushing.
P.S. (couldn't help it but)
I dare you to do the collector platform run quicker then my vanguard (last link in my sig)

Widow/vindicator dismantles foes. It kills quicker than any other class. IMO
