Reinstalled Dragon Age to play again - previously played with no issues.

After a clean install, I can't click anything from the game start-up menu. The background sound is on, the menu items make the sound effect as the mouse goes over them and they highlight, but clicking them does not generate any action.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times - including a manual uninstall deleting hkey items.

Every time I reinstall i get the same problem.

I've updated graphics drivers and mouse drivers to no avail.

Using windows 7 and have up-to-date hardware.

Have tried with straight install and also patch 1.03 and get the same issue.

First off, don't waste any time with patch 1.03.  It is just plain bad, buggy and useless, so because the expansion and newest DLC require 1.03, you should just wait and ignore those for now.

Next, is the pointer different in any way now?  I suspect it may be blinking or fading out?  Very possibly since you played last, you started using software than modifies the look or action of the normal windows cursor?  For instance, a different mouse driver?  "Mouse Trails" will literally make the pointer invisible when the game starts.  If you were asking about Mass Effect, I would ask whether the menu items reacted at all to having the pointer on them.

You might also consider whether you have changed anything else, such as video frivers, in the intervenimg period, which might mean a need to re-run the configuration utility.

I don't recall any prior threads about a similar problem, so I will suggest a last thing, in case it's your AV causing trouble, or another program grabbing the mouse clicks.  Try a clean boot to see if it works that way.

Thanks for the tip on 1.03.

The pointer seems fine and the same from what i can recall. It isn't buggy - not fading out at all.

I've changed some hardware in the meantime but i used the config utility before playing. Everything looks as it should... I just can't click anything.

I'll test out to see if another program is picking up the clicks, that seems like one possibility. Thanks.

Same problem here. Installed the game, updated to 1.03 and I can't click anything in the start menu.

On a different pc everything is working :(...have you find a way to solve the problem?

It had never seemed necessary, to me, to ask the OP about his hardware, given his assertion of having had no problems previously.  however, we are discussing PC games here, and hardware makes huge differences among players and their problem symptoms.

Generally speaking, the percentage of players with problems from patch 1.03 is too high to be able to recommend its usage.  That being said, if you have the wrong hardware, even patch 1.02A won't help.

I solved this problem after some additional check on my antivirus software. Using Comodo as firewall/antivirus software and the mouse is not correctly working in Dragon Age until i turned off Sandbox and Defense+ modules.

I can play without any problem with basic firewall and antivirus protection on :)

You are right, It's Comodo!!!

I turned off Sandbox and Defense+ modules and then DAO is started.

But if I turned off firewall without disabling modules DAO would not start, it's a mistery!

We can troubleshoot, but we'll need more info first.  Here's a guide:
