Nobody died on my first PT either.

I sent Legion into the vents because he seemed the best equipped to handle the heat, and I knew I'd care the least if he died.
I made Garrus team leader both times because I believe in him and wanted him to succeed!
I had Samara do the barrier because she's a matriarch.
I made Jacob do the escort because he seemed like the perfect balance of reliable and expendable.

I'm lucky that it worked out that those were all 'right' choices, since my reasoning wasn't always based on logic. :P

Seriously though, I thought it was pretty obvious who most of the choices were. I was confused when I came on the boards and everyone talked about how hard it was and wondered why Zaeed of all people wasn't a choice for team leader. Zaeed?! ::shakes head::

My first time through, which I deny ever exists because I reloaded, I made Tali first team leader (trusted her, gave her a chance) since I wanted Garrus on my six.  Legion got a rocket to the face.  :crying:

But... thanks to the magic of reloads, that run doesn't exist any more.

I got everyone through. But that's just b/c my friend said to me that I had to upgrade the Normady so I wouldn't loose three squadmates. I don't know if I should thank him or hit him...

But I did then several other playthroughs were I killed a certain amount of people. I even have a save file were I only killed Garrus. Yeah I felt bad doing it, but I hope I'll get some unique dialog b/c of that. Or maybe I'll get punished...

edited b/c of grammar

I definitely looked at that wonderful chart dannybates posted. No one has died on any of my playthroughs and I don't think anyone ever will.

Eep. Yeah, I like Tali and all, but I don't think she's quite ready to be a leader yet. She couldn't even handle a small group of her own people without them ignoring her orders, I don't think she could handle Shepard's rough group of misfits.

@Chewin3: I think the only way I could have a run with Garrus dead is if we find out his replacement is another turian who has some nice, sad things to say about him in ME3. And even then I'd probably be tempted to youtube it instead of playing the whole game once without my favorite character. :(

I used logic and guesses at best XD
My logic:
Tech specialist: Tali was always an engineer and thoughtout chats kept emphasizing her mechanic and techy savy skills, so i chose her. I was tempted for kasumi since i noticed how well she did in hacking doors in seconds during her loyalty mission.

Fireteam: I threw in Garrus. Miranda emphasized "someone who can command leadership through EXPERIENCE." He lead a team of 12 including himself on the 3 biggest merc bands. We ironically have a team of 12. Garrus it was. And since he did so well the 1st time, i just chose him again for the 2nd one. Thats my Archangel ^_^

biotic specialist: Samara. I figured her centuries alive and experience as a hardcore justicar would have proven to have better concentration when maintaining a biotic barrier in the heat of battle. was tempted her jack- but i thought her hotheadedness would be a problem [til i later discovered she is an option XD]. Wouldve picked miranda, but i had better faith in samaras abilities.

escort: Mordin. The norm crew went through hell - as soon as they got back to the ship, hed be able to look over them. plus he defended a clinic full of sick & injured patients against mercs. I used that fact as a gamble.

final battle: Garrus & Miranda. Garrus wasnt with me the whole mission, about time he was at my dam side! *got greedy with garrus* XD And i think he'd hate me if i didnt take him along for the climax battle and he missed it. lol. And miranda - i thought since the illusive man might have something to say later, miri might have some interesting commentary. Little did i know that shed end up quitting cerberus and telling off tim. She just earned some respect out of me for that. Though i disliked that SHE pulled me up onto the ship. XD I was like....awwwwwww! no i dont want u! i want my garrus to help me!...blah oh fine *grumble grumble* [and yes- i discovered afterwards that garrus will only pull u up if jack or thane are with you]

Well, I now realize my error in judgment and have Tali on my six now instead.  Shepard Adept + Engineer Tali + Soldier Grunt = dead Collectors.   Shepard Vanguard + Engineer Tali + Sentinel Mirana = dead Collectors.

I just miss Garrus at my Sheps' back now.

Unsure if he's referring to Garrus, but given he's Garrus' writer, why not?

No one died in my first playthrough, either. Logic FTW

Tech? Tali
Fireteam 1? I wanted Garrus with me, so I chose Jacob (he was an Alliance soldier...)
Biotic? Samara
Fireteam 2? Jacob again. In the next playtroughs I always pick Garrus, of course. I like to listen to him :D
Escort? Mordin. He's like a doctor, so he could look after the injured crew members.
Final battle? Garrus and Jack. Other times, Garrus and Mordin. Garrus is always by my side :3

gah!!  *hugs Legion*  :(

I have to say... i usually make Garrus fire team leader. by usually I mean this last playthrough, which is my second only. I like how it tuned out though. Tali always goes into the vents.  (this time i mean it.. both times I've played and probably from here on out)
Now, I like having Garrus with me, but....  I think he deserves to lead and can do it well. So I bring Thane and Legion with me.
Then at the end, I bring Garrus and Legion. :D

also. I do not believe that Garrus dies. seriously. It jsut doesn't happen.

Garrus doesn't die, he just goes on temporary leave... by forming a gang of vigilantes to bring justice to the most unlawful place in the galaxy.

Please... no replacements. SM shouldn't be a "get rid of the squadmates you dislike to get new ones" token, as I said other times in other threads. I won't kill Garrus neither if I can recruit and romance her sister (that would be creepy... isn't she a teenager or so? LoL)

!!! Awesome. Maybe Casey passed on the request for a Garrus hug from a while back.. ::foolishly hopes:: Thanks for posting this. :D

@Obsydian: It's not anything against him, but he's the last person I could pick up, plus, he's a robot so death doesn't mean the same thing to him. (Seriously, couldn't we take him with and fix him or something? At least recover his data?)

I'm wondering if the 'default' for new players in ME3 will have Garrus and Tali alive, since they're permanent squaddies. That'd be pretty cool. B)

I hope ME3 gives Garrus the choice to try a 'for the greater good' suicide or have Shep send him to his death because hes the only one he trust enough to get that type of mission done. BUT also lets us not kill him and dont have him culpabilize about it.

Id never kill my Garrus but he just deserves having many options cause hes awsome and can handle it as good as Shep can.

(hope my english makes sense)

as for replacing Garrus? hell no. just... no. Unless it with Nihlus. and even then. can't we just have both?

lastly. yay hugztiem!

I think there should be a temp squaddie to replace them if they were your 'ambassador' to a certain species. For instance, Tali, Garrus and Mordin are the only Quarian, Turian and Salarian on the team, respectively. When you have to visit those races, I think you should have someone else there as a mouthpiece in case those characters are dead. Their responses wouldn't be as deep or meaningful as you would get from the original squadmates. It'd be like the guy who replaces Wrex if you killed him in ME1. Obviously he doesn't like you very much and you don't have that emotional connection, but it's better than having a blank space.

I don't want full replacements either, because I agree the SM shouldn't be used as a 'terminate' button on your least favorite characters.

As for Solana, who said she's a teenager? We don't even know if she's the older or younger sibling, do we? I find a lot of people tend to imagine sisters as younger unless it's stated otherwise, whereas I tend to imagine them older. I'm not sure why.

In ME2, Weekes didn't write Jack, I'm fairly certain. In ME3 it's possible that he's writing Jack, as Jack's writer from ME2 has left the team.

Really?  I thought I'd seen it documented that he was.  In any case, the writers all work on multiple characters.  Weekes only wrote Garrus' aboard-Normandy lines, for example.  Someone else did his lines from missions.

I really wouldn't read into that tweet as necessarily being about Garrus, is all I'm saying.
