Same here. Be it coming from Shepard or Garrus, I'd gag at a line like that.Hyrule_Gal wrote...

I eye roll whenever I see a "kid" post pop up on the forum, expecting femshep to waddle around during the universe's destructionI don't want any "blue children" lines with garrus , I really really don't.

Edit: Hrm, maybe that came out too harshly? No offence to anyone here who actually likes the idea. This is just my opinion.

Yeah, but spec ops and being seemingly the one competent person in the universe are two different things. I don't think my Shepard understands the terms 'downtime' and 'shore leave'.widowspeak wrote...
See, here's the thing: having grown up military, complete with one parent doing special ops, I know its possible to have a family, raise them well, and still do your job. As such, a post ME3 scenario where some of our heroes wind up with some wee ones underfoot, i don't mind.
For the love of all thigs cute and fluffy, though, not EVERYONE needs to pair off!
EDIT: Not trying to trivialize or anything. Just saying, it seems like everyone comes to Shep with their problems, be it Alliance, the Council or that random person on the street needing a courier.

I don't agree with Shepard having babies, but I can certainly see the draw (I actually really like kids IRL) and I wouldn't begrudge someone for wanting that.widowspeak wrote...
@Aris: Well, that's all well and good. I do, however dislike it when others try to make me feel small and inferior for my preferences. (No, no one HERE has done that, but damn if a lot of authors haven't messaged me to say so on FFnet. *sigh*)
@Collider: Same here, I approve of an ending that's open to interpretation given everyone's varied opinions on what should happen. The only thing I don't want vague is confirmation that Shep and the LI end up together.

Oh god, no Shepard pregnancies. Ugh. I don't want them in real life, why the hell would I want them in my video games? Also, alien-hybrid babies is the dumbest thing ever. It's like all the worst fan fictions rolled into one terrible idea.
Edit: Hrm, maybe that came out too harshly? No offence to anyone here who actually likes the idea. This is just my opinion.
Not harsh, because I feel that way too, I think it stems from the frustration that we see that kind of thing everywhere else, we're force fed the “life scriptTM” on a daily basis and I'd like to be able to finish this game without my character being expected to "settle down" too. Mass effect (so far) has allowed me to play a female character that has important goals and priorities and is bloody brilliant at doing her job, she kicks ass and she saves people, that’s her life. Garrus compliments it because he can look after himself and can kick ass alongside her, to me, shepard can’t afford to settle down, not while the galaxy still needs her.
and hybrids ARE dumb

I, personally, do not.
Settling down, to me, is perhaps changing careers post-military, or deciding to take a year or two to travel to places you've never been before. (Or, at least, places you'd like to see when you aren't being shot at). It does not have to mean anything to you other than what you (and by extension, your character) want it to mean.
The fact that everyone thinks that "settling down" means you have to "settle for society's view of 'normal'" needs to change. You do not have to validate your relationship by having children, or even by getting married. But, if you want to, no one should get in your way, either.
*dismounts soapbox*
EDIT 2: And yes, I'll say again, hybrids in sci-fi really are dumb, especially those of diametrically opposed DNA types.
Guess what else is dumb? Continually trying to justify having them in your story by bombarding your readers with page after page of author's notes. Seriously: NO. ONE. CARES. Either write the fic, or not, just shut up about your reasoning unless directly asked. Jeez.

I also think it has to do with the fact that everyone seems to see "settling down," as getting hitched, buying a house, and having 2.5 kids. (EDIT: Again, speaking strickly post-third game, here.)

I agree so hard. Avarra Shepard does not have babies, and especially no hybrid babies, because that's as unlikely and unbelievable as it is unecessary. She's busy.

This is a fair point - hormonal birth control can have a lot of benefits aside from just preventing pregnancy and is indeed even sometimes a necessary part of managing certain health conditions.
I think this macro just makes me lul a little as it underscores the idea that FemShep is too busy being an intergalactic badass and having crazy space adventures to deal with more mundane hassles.

Oh, don't misunderstand; I find the macro to be HUGELY hilarious, myself. I laugh every time I see it. LOUDLY. That little tidbit just popped into my head at that moment, and refused to be denied.

On holidays, they would visit their friends (I hope everyone survived). If a lot of years later they think they're ready to adopt a turian kid (of course it'd be turian), they could do it, but I don't see them as parents. They're warriors and they are going to die in battle. I hope they die together =)
