Our problem is that he projects onto Garrus when he should be angry at femshep for stringing him on. That's my problem anyway. He doesn't have an epic freak out over Thane. Oblivious Garrus is oblivious. It's not his fault. It's femshep's fault.
Also, Jacob's reaction is childish. Implying that Shep (a woman he is a romance with) has no right to ask about his mental and emotional wellbeing is just stupid wannabe machoness IMO. If Jacob really is that free of baggage I pity him. A quote of Sten's comes to mind. "Either you have an enviable memory or a pitiable life to know nothing of regret." There is an inherent idea of condescension in that ideology, that everyone ought to be "collected" and "free from baggage" or that thinking about the past is useless.
Not to mention, that as his commanding officer, she's got a right to ask about his mental state. After all, it could effect the mission.
Which is why I don't like that Sidonis is never brought up again.
Agreed.
I actually don't mind Jacob, it's just there are so many other more engaing characters in ME, that it's easy to let him fall by the wayside. Also, there are times where his reactions to things don't make a lot of sense (a few examples illustrated already). I think BW wanted Jacob to be too many things, so he doesn't feel 'whole' - to me, at least. It's like a few ideas were emalgamated to create him, and while you would think this would make him Captain Awesome (and the preferential treatment he gets as an LI means someone certainly thought he was), it instead leaves him feeling a bit unfinished (again, IMO).
Regarding Shepard having the right to ask him stuff as his commander, is it me, or is he uber-casual with Shep from the outset, even though they don't know each other very well, and he's meant to be in a military operation? I can't work out his attitude.
Also, if he has no baggage, why is he all "it's a suicide mission. I volenteer!" fist chance he gets? Suspicious, if you ask me.
And I also agree with Sia in that the Sidonus issue needed an after-conversation. Partly because more Garrus dialogue = win, but also because whatever the outcome, Garrus has issues a plenty to work through. When he says he doesn't want to talk about it, I understand Shepard giving him his space, but the fact that he says 'not yet' left me waiting for the conversation that never came. Here's hoping they are saving that for ME3!
