I'm always surprised by Kaiden's popularity, I just really don't see the appeal.
I have a serious case of beauty and the beast syndrome though, so maybe I'm bias.

 Garrus is defiantly the most popular character but not nessisarily the most popular romance, everyone thinks Garrus is awesome but some people can't get past the whole "umm he's a big freaky bird man" thing  ahaha

Apparently they can't see the true meaning behind Garrus' romance. I see that too many only care about sex these days...

As for Garrus's fringe, I wonder if turian ladies are attracted to turian men with long fringes? If that would be the case, I would love that stereotype.

I always said I loved the tenderness in Garrus' romance. I wouldn't mind some... spicy scenes, though (not too obvious, but... you know). But when I compare it with the other lovescenes in ME2... Jacob: a prize? No, thanks. Thane: crying? I would be nervous with that. ME1 lovescene was great. I didn't like Kaidan too much, but I admit that ending was well done. 

Now I need Garrus' hugs. I'm obsessed with that! I know I won't have the hot shower scene, so please, please, please, Bioware, give me Garrus' hugs

You answered your own question. He's a tech specialist, that's qualification enough - the same way Tali is implicitly qualified to mess with the Normandy's engines because of her "class" and background. He's a turian on a ship designed by turians, handling turian weponry. He needn't have served on some big ship before, though he might have. ME1 also makes a point of depicting him as interested/qualified in handling machinery (MAKO). So yeah, definitely.

Sad indeed. How can one resist Garrus?
And 56% on Kaiden...seriously...of all things...
I was kinda disappointed when there was no option to shoot Alenko in the head after Horizon...
Oh well, maybe at least there will be an option for Garrus to kick his ass in ME3

Aww, but I have one of them Shepards that stays faithful to Kaiden too (for science as I call it ) I just got really frustrated with what he did on Horizon and I guess I needed to "blow off some of that steam" somwhere.

Just to clarify, I'm not a Kaiden basher, I have no problem with the guy, I'm just surprised that he's so popular, that's all.

After Garrus, hes one of the msot interesting FemShep LI. I did make a playthrough for him (my renegade FemShep). He nailed the 'nice normal dude' way better then Jacob (my opinion) and has the advantage of a full 3 games romance arce like Garrus. I always find Thane's romance to be too out of the blue as it storms tru the second half of ME2 (my opinion again. i got nothing against the character, just the romance arc). In some form, both Kaidan and Garrus romance have something similar... i guess they are about loyalty. While Kaidan is very loyal to his ideals (which is pretty likable from a heroe-type character), Garrus is loyal to Shep (which makes him the perfect badass but fully trustworthy character).

Someone probably already sent it around this thread but it's the most fun I've had reading a fanfic in ages (I'm not much into the adorable shepard and garrus showing their soft side, kind of stuff)
I just think it's a really cool rehash of the origanal mass effect 2 story with two new likable characters plopped in there

This. I'm not a huge Kaidan fan but.. if there was a possibility for some man on man with him.. yes, please.

And yeah, one of Garrus' most attractive features is dat fringe. Don't forget that long, beautiful fringe! (Sort of disappointed that the Archangel litho doesn't really show it off)

Funny because in the "Creating Garrus" vid, the art director said Garrus is the most popular, with the only person possibly being more popular is Tali. Remember not EVERYONE on the planet has voted in that poll XP Alot of Kaiden fans got there hands on it. heh.
But honestly - just because WE love Garrus, that just means theres always going to be a percentage of ME fans that are going to love Kaiden. Heck - theres people who love Jacob. Its all about preference, opinion and the players own -well....taste in men. I love Kaiden for being rather sweet and respectful, that is until horizon. But regardless - i still love the character. I dont hate any character - love em all. Obviously - Garrus is my #1, but i like kaiden too!

*sigh* Yea, people these days care WAAAAYYYY to much about the pure all out sex above anything else. Just seeing the outside appearance too. I know quite a handful of friends that romanced Miranda for example JUST because "she's freaking hawt" and you can actually see a steamy scene. And these same ppl didnt like Ashley, but now that they seen her in ME3, NOW they'll romance her because again....she's hot. *face palm*

And hey - I would LOVE that stereotype ^___^ Has anyone else noticed on the citadel that there are other turians with smaller fringes? I just laugh thinking in my head "Heh - Garrus' is bigger than yours."
Wouldnt it be funny if this saying was true about turians: "You know what they say about Turians that have a long fringe....." [think naughty]

About Kaidan, I must admit in my first playthrough I didn't want to romance him, but after few conversations he was so into Shepard that I was afraid of dumping him and the possible repercussions. So, in my first ME2, I found him at Horizon and I raged. I didn't understand why he was so cold. Then Garrus sided with me () and I squeeed like a little girl, because I had a crush on him since ME1. So... it was perfect

My next playthroughs taught me to understand Kaidan's reasons better, though I know my Shepard could never dump Garrus for him. In short, at first I wanted to kick Kaidan's ass because I saw him as a disloyal ex-friend, but I finally understood him and I think we can be friends again. Lovers? Not anymore.

Also, I'm pretty sure Kaidan will be cool with Shep and Garrus' relationship. He's a mature man and I can't see Garrus teasing him, because he grew up too

I like Kaidan just fine.  I just didn't particularly care for the way he looked at my FemShep in one of the early ME1 cutscenes.  To be perfectly honest, I found it a little creepy.
Thankfully, I found out he wasn't like that in further conversations and my second FemShep romanced him.
(But if Garrus had given me the time of day, I would have dropped him or anyone else like a sack of dirty diapers.  LOL!)
