Alright, one last off-topic flourish. Since it's been said that this needed to be done:

Bahahahah! This thread is full of epic people.

I've always been a big fan of "Papa Vakarian meets Spacer Shep mom." That would be nine kinds of awkward, funny, and weird.

I'd do it, but I'm not so sure about joining Facebook...not since registering for Hyves a few years back *shudder*. Getting "It's your friend's birthday soon, BUY HIM/HER SOMETHING!" and "OMG, YOUR FRIEND JUST SENT YOU A MEANINGLESS MESSAGE! ISN'T THAT GREAT?" e-mails every other minute really got on my nerves.

Feel free to post it in my stead, though. Can't wait to see his reaction.

Facebook > Hyves. I find it rather handy that both sites remind me of birthdays. It helps me procrastinating with sending congratulations. Oh, it's someone's birthday today, I'll congratulate them in a bit. Oh, crap, now it's suddenly 2 days later.

Feel free to post it in my stead, though. Can't wait to see his reaction.

I can do that. I'll find some music and figure out how this thing should work...

yeah facebook actually isn't that bad. I'm having an eye on their constantly changing privacy settings and stuff but all in all it's alright. I basically live there....or used to, until I moved in here *cuddles with Garrus on couch*

tell me when you posted the thing on BKs page....can't wait to see his reaction. I couldn't resist commenting on the guy who told BK he had sex with him while being a female *rofl* i loved the comments this thing got. cracked me up.

and BK really seems to be a sweetheart.

If I was Keener and saw the general state of Garrus fangirls on the internet I would NOT be brave enough to join facebook and openly reveal that fact. The guy must have a quad.

I've been following this comic on DA as well. Makes for a good read and how much of a git Papa Vakarian is. I wonder if garrus will show of his scars in ME3 or maybe in a DLC?

Actually on the git status of Papa V, we have almost no evidence on that front. Garrus just notes that he's by the books and doesn't like Spectres. We have no evidence that he dislikes humans or that he would disown Garrus for going renegade or be rude to femshep or anything. The most we have from Garrus is a "he's taking my resignation pretty hard. He's worried I'll become just like Saren." and a "It'll probably kill my father" when he goes to reapply for Spectre training. Sounds more like a really worried/concerned guy to me than an epic meddler or preacher. Heck, a Shep who paragons Garrus pretty much agrees with Papa V's opinions. We also have to consider that Garrus is the only source we have on him and Garrus well...let's just say he thinks with his heart and not his head. Who really has accurate opinions about their parents anyway especially when they disagree with their parents (and we all do at times.) I'm not saying Papa V isn't a git. It's just that we don't really have all that much data on the guy and the only person we hear from on the topic is not exactly an unbiased source.

The only data I'd see that would indicate there'd be tension between Garrus and his father is that Garrus says his father is by the book and doesn't like the idea of people taking the law into their own hands. And this is exactly what Garrus does in ME2. But that's the only inferrence I'm going to make on that relationship.

Also, I wonder how BK will react to Guy Love! Probably positively, from what we've seen so far. Dude's surprisingly easy about all the fangirlism. Impressive, really.

Well, considering Papa V. is a hardline cop, and that having Garrus go Renegade is encouraging him to ignore rules more, I'm pretty sure that would be motive for disowning, or at least, extreme disappointment. As for him being rude to FemShep, he probably would on the basis that she's a Spectre, if not on the basis that she's a human (there's no evidence of Papa V being racist).

Well, I don't doubt that there is tension. That's apparent. I just don't think there is evidence for a lot of the more extreme stuff I've seen people implying that his father would disown him or something.  Hardline cop he may be, but he's also a dad.  Disowning is pretty darn extreme.  I just don't think we have evidence to suggest he is THAT much of a hardass.  He may be, but we can't prove it.  He may just be very disappointed or angry with Garrus and he may try to convince him to change but that doesn't necessarily mean he would forswear all dealings with him as disowning him implies.

It would be entirely appropriate for Garrus' dad to be racist (speciest?) just because of his generation. Unlike Garrus, the "Relay 314 Incident" was something he lived through and his entire generation probably had "hate humans" drilled into them. Garrus on the other hand has a much more open mind about such things, growing up afterwards. It's not unlike the crusty father who fought in World War II who spits on people who buy Japanese cars who is shocked to find out his boy just bought a brand new Honda.

I'm not sure about the whole "had 'hate humans' drilled into them" bit.

Remember that the whole thing lasted about 3 months in total, not really enough for any massive anti human propoganda to really get going, especially as for most of that they really thought it'd be a walkover.

But Garrus' dad is also a C-Sec officer and we know he hasn't been retired for 30 odd years so he would have had to deal with humans quite a lot during his work. Dealing with other races is just part of being in C-Sec. I hazard a guess that being in C-Sec is precisely what makes Garrus open-minded about humans. Consider that he is not open-minded with races he has little experience with (quarians, krogan) or at least he isn't as of ME1. I think that's largely because he hasn't had much direct contact with them as they are rare and unwelcome on the Citadel. Humans meanwhile are all over the Citadel. He has to deal with them all the time. It wouldn't surprise me if Papa V had some distaste for humans over the Relay 314 incident and because they are in general seen as ambitious and rule-breaking, but I also think he might not be as stodgy about it as some turians specifically because he would have more direct experience with them. He would be obliged to deal with them politely if for nothing less than professionalism.

It's also completely possible that Garrus got his opinion on humans from his father.  He talks about how different they are but then again think about the single-minded disgust he shows for Saren, the rule-breaking renegade Spectre turian.  Garrus almost takes Saren's behavior as a personal insult.  He may be a little more like his father than he thinks.  I think they both get worked up about injustice.  They just have different theories on how it should be dealt with.  Garrus cares about a person's actions, not his species.  Wouldn't surprise me if his father was the same.
