Well, I'm not exactly active or anything, but I think I know something that Garrus fans (and Tali fans too, in this case) would appreciate when I see it.

Nice art. :) Two of my favorite squadmates.

Wow, threads are moving slow today. I tried to think of a topic for discussion, but... I can't think of anything. xD At least nothing Garrus-related. (I've mostly been thinking about MaleShep's playthrough, but the parts with Garrus are already planned out.)

So I just finished reading an excellent Garrus/Femshep fanfiction named "Invictus" and I must ask you, fine fellows of the Garrus thread, what other great Garrus fanfiction is out there that you would reccomend?

I know y'all were just discussing them, but I know how I'd feel if I stumbled across this board and y'all were ****ing about how Loved sucks.

Can we put the discussions about fics on the Clan V board in the fanfiction thread?  I mean, isn't that why we have it?  I don't know if you can "stumble" across Clan V, but I'd have to guess it's a bit harder to find than this thread.

I think it was Raga and kg Sia mostly, I don't think they're around at the moment.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say anything sucked :(

I don't read fanfic myself, but I know Garrus fic written by WarlordFil gets a lot of praise here, so you could check that out.

I'm sure fic-reading fangirls here can recommend a lot more when they're here :)

Assuming you're on fanfiction.net, then anything by WarlordFil

Also, the Hundred Year Distance is a stand out one as well.

WarlordFil is indeed an exceptional writer. I've never read anything by her that I didn't love (although I haven't read all her writings).

Same.  Now I did make a broad statement that "a lot of fanfiction sucks" but I dropped no names and I never would drop names when talking like that.  I do stand by that statement though.  There is a lot of terrible fanfiction out there.

Now I did also point out some things I don't like about some fics that are otherwise really good, but I also wouldn't say that's calling them sucky.  To the contrary, it's like complaining about calibrations.  We all love the Garrus romance, but that doesn't mean it is perfect.  I'm not saying I hate it just "insert problem B here" didn't agree with me.

Also, if you don't mind Garrus smut I made a list of fics that have really good pre-Omega 4 scenes in them a few pages back. They were Precedent, A Night to Remember, Insubordinating, Reward, and Strange Bedfellows. Memento Mori is also really good. There is also an entertaining series of one-shots called "Renegade Playground" for a really renegade Shep. All of those are definitely NSFW.  Oh yeah and Just Once as well.

*sigh*  Somehow, I knew I'd get misunderstood.

There weren't names; there were titles, however.  And I'm not going to go back and list who said what where.  This was an attempt to remind everyone to becareful what they say in criticism because it can hurt those who can't handle it.

Here's a literal translation of a Tocharian love poem (date unknown, but the Tocharians are believed to have been extinct by the 9th century).  It's the piece that got me asking about turians and poetry two pages back.  Yes, the literal translation can be painful to read in spots, but I guess that's better than translating it haphazardly to make it look 'pretty'.  Thus far, it's the only known piece of secular 'literature' by the Tocharians (who lived in and around the Tarim basin of western China), which might be another parallel to turians (I'll explain that reasoning below).  I could also type it in phoenetic Tocharian for a comparison, but that might make your eyes bleed:

There has never been any person dearer to me than you and there will never be any dearer
The love for you, the delight in you is breath together with life.
Thus I used to think:  with a single beloved will I live well lifelong without deceit, without pretence.
The god Karman alone knew this my thought.
Therefore, he caused dissension and tore from me
the heart that belongs to you.
He led you away, seperated me and had me partake of all sorrows.
The joy I had in you he took away from me.
-Tocharian love poem

We know that the turians don't have laws against stuff like drug use, but with their general love of military service, duty and everything that goes with it, what do you think happens when a turian kid decides he wants to be a fiction writer or an actor? Do their families roll their eyes and tell them to find a "real" job, threaten to disown them, or just let them have a go at it (figuring that turian society would likely prefer reading military biographies than stories with unicorns or some such in them, so they'd go broke and have to do something else anyway)?

This also makes me wonder about pro turian athletes (there was a CDN post several months ago about how the top MMA fighters on Earth were usually turians all of a sudden).  Most turians probably think it's pretty cool to beat humans at their own game, but the seriously anti-human segment of the population is probably having fits....

Well, there was a reference of Cerberus News a while back to a turian sport called "clawball."  I'm sure I could find it.  There was some clawball player who got suspended for having some kind of unfair advantage.

As for acting and poems and such.  We've seen turians dancing.  We've also seen turian abstract art so I'm gonna say I think that turian creative art does exist.  I would hazard it is rare but I don't think there is a stigma about it.  You muster out of the military at age 30 which is still plenty of time to pursue other ventures.  Plus given how extensive and woven up in their society the military is I'm gonna say I think there would some application for just about all skills in the military.  It might be making posters or keeping military archives or something, but I bet they can find uses for artists.

Amazed I managed to search for it successfully and type all that given my current level of inebriation. Whee!

I read that fic you are speaking of Jane. It is dreadfully OCC, but it is well written. I don't know how I feel about it just yet. I could kind of stomach it because it's so OCC that it almost seemed like I don't know alternate universe Garrus or something.

I actually liked it.  The setup was done well enough that I bought the premise, even though it was just a "what if" kind of scenario for me.

I think the one you're referring to was originally inspired by an MK request, in which case it wasn't really meant to be totally in-character.

I can usually forgive OOCness if the writing's good.  If it's OOC and the author can't quite parse the difference between "your" and "you're," then I stop reading.

That's precisely why it didn't bother me that much.  And it was presented as plausibly as....well that really implausible situation could ever be.  I will give it that.

I get you, but the question was specifically "what fics do you really like".  By even bringing up the name we were saying we liked it.  I also understand that it is probably best to discuss this kind of thing in a seperate thread.  Only thing is, I don't think that thread would ever really be that active.  If I wanted to ask a question about fic there I don't know that it would get answered or it might take days...  I don't want to fight with anybody or make anybody mad, and I know this will sound VERY cruel and I don't really mean it that way but...if a person posts a story/artpiece/mod whatever on the internet they need to be aware that some people will criticize it.  I don't mean to be combative with this and I'm sorry if it comes off that way.  I just don't want to have to always go to an alternate thread to discuss fanart or fanfic.

Huh, all this fanfic discussion makes me want to go beat the dust off the one and only Garrus fanfic I started way back when. I may have to do that.

I think I'm a decent writer, but I'm much too thin-skinned to write anything that people would actually see. Actually, I thought I had a job writing for this guy once, but it didn't work out in the end. Anyway, the piece I wrote for him was non-fiction. I'd be afraid that if someone saw my fiction (of which I have none, currently), they'd psychoanalyze me with it and then I'd be in real trouble. LOL

And I heard u liek Garrus? <3

Me, I'm just lazy and I don't to post half a fic that I never finish. I hate it when people do that.

And actually I love Garrus.

That is frustrating, especially when the fic is really good and you really want to see what happens next...gah.
