That must be another game-specific "glitch." MainShep never had a problem turning down Kaidan. MaleShep turned down Liara and still got trapped in the romance. But the first time I heard that "fraternization" line from Jacob, I thought "What? No, I didn't mean it like that!" xD Poor Shepard can't just talk to people without them thinking she's interested. I think Garrus is the only one.

I like Thane too. I like a lot of characters, but I mostly stay in the Garrus thread/group.

Well by "Kaidan trap" I meant that the only way I could avoid his romance was to either be really rude or to never talk to him. I didn't want to do either so I usually go really informal with it (don't bother to get the details on Rahna/rather overt flirting) to make it out like it was just an idle fling. Then I Virmire him. Yea, I'm mean like that.

And that's the problem.  "Fraternization" isn't meant to be sexual there but how are we supposed to know that especially with "estrus Shepard" at the helm?

On an utterly unrelated note, why are the Thane girls so insular? You'd think we'd have a lot in common what with our mutual attraction to sexy maliens.

Maybe it’s because their romance is the only one in a state of limbo right now? We don't know Thane's fate for sure so maybe they are all just in a state of suspense that makes them appear to be insular (and  by insular I assume you mean in a *dictionary* detached, islander kind of way? Posted Image) when really they are all waiting on ME3 in bated breath, closed off from the rest of the world (apart from Thane related topics on forums) untill they hear news. Or maybe it’s because of his fate that makes them more slighted and closed off to other groups because no one else’s romance character is about to die so soon, why did it have to be THEIR smexy malien and not the “prize” Jacob, WHY dammit!? Or maybe I what I said was just me being funny and no way serious * holds up a “Thane is terminally awesome!” sign* Posted Image please don't kill me.

Could be that. I never thought about it. And yes, I did mean insular in the dictionary sense. But on the same level, what about all the people who like ME1 LIs and feel like they got shafted? Some of them are rather bitter but they aren't really insular (at least not to my knowledge anyway.)

With the Thane fans it seems the complete opposite.  I never got any bitter vibes from them but they remain kinda isolationist.

And French debris? How did that get up there? I wonder what this debris is? Three metric Tonnes of strong-smelling cheese?

LOL. I'm not Jane Shepard.

And the Debris category does leave much to the imagination, doesn't it? I just think Zaeed's being in the surveillance and trash disposal area gives him a lot of power-- look at what happens when garbage companies go on strike and surveillance footage gets posted on the net. I don't know where I'm going with my little RP idea here yet but it could be pretty goofy although that wasn't the original intention. Serious with silly implications or vice-versa.

well, they definitely have slipped a few lines in the NSAS and the Thane thread where I just thought, oh man, wow! especially towards Garrus fans. I don't like drama and that's usually when I just turn around and go talk somewhere else.

I mean, I understand that many of them are die-hard-Thane-ites and have come to develop certain forms of relationships among each other, yet being a newb to their thread and groups is pretty difficult, to say at least.

My Sheps romanced Kaidan, Garrus and Thane. I adore all three of them and want all three of them back in ME3. Sometimes it's hard for me though, to actually write somewhere because there seem to be many who just romanced ONE out of these three and can get, let's say pretty rude!

I think they feel slightly less shafted only because they were told they were going to get rewarded in ME3 for being loyal to their ME1 romances, there is an upside for them despite the lack of interaction they had with the me1 love interests. Thane girls on the other hand... well they got 12 months of life Posted Image.

I can't wait to get my faithful-to-Kaidan-reward in ME3. But I also can't wait to see how things develop between Kara and Garrus or Lana and Thane.

Kaidan just told my MainShep that he thought he was getting signals, and I don't remember Shepard's exact words, but it was a polite turn-down. (He also asked about Liara. If MainShep's answer was one of the things that saved her from the romance trap, in addition to hardly talking to Liara at all, then that was a nice bonus.)

I'll have Shepards for each romance. Liara's playthrough... will have to wait a long time. But my favorite out of all the ME1 and ME2 romances will always be Garrus.

I wonder how it will work out in ME3 in terms of having been with Thane, insofar as the ME1 love interest reaction to that (if you had one in ME1). Do you think that Thane will die (if uncured) between chapters or during ME3? I want him to live without some canon-bending miracle cure or bandaid, I like him.

Man, I'm doing my "for science" suicide mission run right now and Thane just argued against keeping it to which the Illusive Man said "an alien can't appreciate the risks." That makes me feel dirty...

Oh well, forward in the name of science.

well, personally I don't care if he gets cured or not. I do believe, that ME3 will start right after the events of ME2 and Thane still had 8 to 12 months there until his disease would start to show. So I don't really think he would die in between ME2 and ME3.

A cure? I'm so-so about it. I mean, he's entered treatment so I can see that his life is being pro-longed. But I'd be perfectly fine if they didn't find a cure by the end of the game and made no mention of it. Open end so to speak.

Also, it is not TOO unlikely for the Hanar to find a cure. They already started experimenting and such, although Thane said himself that it may take years until this would show any results. On the other hand, I can imagine the Hanar making quick progress with that. So why not? It wouldn't be too much of a miracle and it wouldn't be canon-bending.

edit. because my brain is slow today....

I got that quote several times in my suicide mission playthroughs. When I finally had a team of two humans, I got to hear the non-alien version of the quote... and I forgot what it was.

Just remember, Garrus will speak up for keeping the base. :) Unfortunately, only squadmates with different opinions will speak up. It would have been nice for Garrus to say that and reassure one of my Shepards that not everyone will be against him if he does this. Instead, one of his friends (probably Tali) will try to make him feel guilty.

Somehow, I don't think that's the best way to ingratiate yourself with the Thane crowd...

@ Xsause: I loved those screenies! Especially the one with Mordin and the Renegade interrupt during the krogan rant. His face in that is just a mixture of Posted Image and Posted Image

I also have something you might like. There was ME talk over in the Zevran thread, and someone made this:

Posted Image

Concerning the shower sequence in Garrus' romance scene, I didn't understand that either. It really didn't serve any purpose...Not only did Shep come out of the shower fully clothed, as people have pointed out, it wasn't even presented as a particularly awkward moment. Garrus never referenced it (could've been something like "oh, I'm sorry, is this a bad time?" at least). I'm really not sure what they were trying to achieve. Heck, you only see Shep's head in that scene, so it wasn't even in there for a gratuitous FemShep booty shot.

I r baffled, really. Posted Image

And I'm also curious to know what triggers the "I haven't forgotten what we talked about" comment after the SM. All I had was a repeat of the "I wanna try it with you" exchange. I destroyed the base though, if that has anything to do with it.

On a completely different note, Inception came out in France yesterday, and I went to see it. Frickin' brilliant. I spent at least half the film almost literally at the edge of my seat going "come on, come on!", "oh no!" "*gasp*", "oh crap..." The plot is great, the pacing is great, the actors are great (except for Marion Cotillard, but she's always bloody annoying), the ending is maddeningly, yet simply great, the atmosphere, the music, the visuals...just about everything is awesome. I used to hate Di Caprio back when he was younger and everyone loved him (ugh, Titanic...Posted Image), but age suits him really well, and there's less of a distraction from his acting talent now that teenage girls don't go wild over him anymore.

I must also put in a word for Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I had no idea who he was up to now, but I think I'm gonna go snoop for other films he was in, because...well, ok, I have a weakness for cute lean brunettes. Posted Image Don't judge meeeeeeeh!

Well TIM's evil leer at the end didn't make me feel any better either...

And even Garrus expressed misgivings when I talked to him

Anyway, official report:

Keeping the base was a no-go for me. He warned me about Cerberus and then promptly started repeating the "part of me still thinks we're crazy" dialog.

I did have another thought though. Garrus is so no-nonsense that it's not hard to believe he's gonna talk about pertinent mission developments before recreational shenanigans. But to counter that, it seems Tali would be even more concerned about what Shep did with the base than Garrus and she still has something romance related to say...

I guess it really is just luck then. Wow... I hope it won't get messed up when I eventually replay MainShep.

I thought it was strange how the squadmates who spoke up for keeping the base disagree with it afterwards. It doesn't make sense to me. It's not like ME1 where their opinions changed depending on who you brought. xD Choose one decision and stick with it!

Well, I don't want Thane miracle cure. I think it would be a cop-out and weaken the character. However, I'll also say that is unfair as I'm not as invested in him as the Thane girls even if I really like him. If Garrus was the terminally ill one...well, I don't know how I would feel.

Sigh, it's too bad about the chasm though.  Thane/Garrus fans used to have a lot of fun.  Anybody remember the epic strip hug off meme?  Which came from a dev of all people.

Do you have PC version?  Maybe it is specifically a "PC version kept base" thing.   Wow, that would be really specific.

I think something to at least help Thane live longer would be nice, even if it doesn't technically cure him. If not, then I guess it'll be like the opposite of Liara's romance - Shepard will only be alive for a short portion of Liara's life, and the same would go for Thane and Shepard. Luckily, the Shepard I planned out for Thane's romance can handle something like that. Not all of them could.

@Ragabul: Nope, I have the Xbox version.

Another thing about Garrus thread. We seem to have WAY less memes than most other threads and more actual discussion. Maybe that is just me though.

I think the squaddies who advocate keeping the base do so without realizing that TIM will be getting his paws on it, or at least without giving it much thought. It's afterwards, once they've seen his evil grin, that they realize why it wasn't such a good idea. That's the most plausible explanation I can come up with.

I would've totally kept the base had it not been for TIM. I let Mordin keep Maelon's research, so it would be hypocritical of my Sheps to then go all "ewww, but people died here!" about the base. Besides, I genuinely think it could be useful...if TIM isn't involved. But he is. So bye-bye base.

I would be pretty cut if Thane died, but I don't want them to pull a cure out of thin air either. I like the open-ended idea. Or maybe it's part of his mission in the third game?

The shower scene actually blew my mind. Up until that point I had no idea there was a bathroom in the captain's cabin. I nearly missed the romance scene because I was so surprised :|
And I'm surprised not more people are complaining about Garrus' terrible terrible fashion sense. I was sitting there the whole time waiting for Shepard to comment on it.

Shepard: Those clothes are absolutely horrible!
...
Shepard: You better take them off.

Thanks! I have a lot more screenies, but I didn't think they would fit.

And yeah, I specifically waited until the "salarian eggs will be a delicacy" comment to hit the interrupt so I could take a screenie of Mordin's :o face there. Considering that all salarian eggs have live young in them, that's pretty sick.

DEVELOPER 1: Hey, people are expecting a lot of nudity in the romance scenes!

DEVELOPER 2: Oh, crap! Look, I know you said Garrus' romance scene was an important one because all the fans requested it, but it completely lacks any--

DEVELOPER 1: But the deadline is tomorrow!

DEVELOPER 2: What do I do?

DEVELOPER 1: There's only one thing we can do...add a useless shower scene.

And yeah, I'm going to see Inception too. Sounds pretty neat.
