Calibrations: Garrus Love and Turian Discussion

If fans "band together" when they were singled out, we should "band together" with how BW singled out on Garrus. He gets less screen-time than Liara altogether with his silly calibrations.

I take that the some ME1 fans have felt that they were singled out and therefore feel the need to "band together" - that may be part of having a rather exclusive group.
But if you hang around an exclusive invitation only group all day the devs will never see your posts. How does that help with their long-term goal of getting Liara back in ME3?

Some of them feel that the developers hate Liara or don't like the ME1 love interests or wouldn't pay attention to the fans anyway. A lot of them are noticeably more pessimistic than the ME2 fandoms.Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...

Hmm, sort of explains the "Mac Walters hates blue people" banners I see around.

This is how I see it. Lot's of people didn't like the ME1 LIs that much and would have preferred something else. The Tali guys. The female malien fans and so on. By opening up with new LIs in ME2, dissatisfied people from the first game hopefully find a new LI that is more to their tastes. If ME1 LIs were also in ME2, it would give them much more content and imply preferential treatment. This way, hopefully everybody has 1 game worth of romance content with an LI they like. Now, we are all on equal footing to move into ME3.
And another thing, at this point Liara is the ONLY squaddie who is 100% guaranteed to be alive so she has more chance variable-wise of showing up in ME3 than anybody.

Personally, I much prefer the romance options in ME2. In ME1, there was only one male option, so for a straight FemShep it's either Kaidan or no one.

I actually like Garrus' voice too. But somehow recently replaying ME1, he sounds a bit higher pitch and (shoot me with a gun because I like Garrus) slightly whiny in tone. I guess they computerised his voice quite obviously in ME1 than in ME2. ME2, his voice sounded more natural, like Keener, but there are some instances that make him sound electronic.
I actually kinda like when he raises his voice a little. I think it makes the flanging more pronounced. I haven't played ME1 in ages so I can't do a direct comparison by memory.

I like Garrus' voice. It's badass. It's not the typical chainsmoker deep voice that the Krogan have, it's got a bit of a "purr" to it. It's easy to listen to.
Thane has the chainsmoker voice: it's not just deep, it also sounds like he's been gargling cement every day since he was 5. Krogan voices sound "Russian church choir singer" deep (starts at 0:28) to me. They don't have the raspiness of a chainsmoker's voice.
And yes, BK's voice does ooze sexiness so much that he can't help sounding flirty.

What you said is true, Nilf, yea. I also like Garrus' voice better than Thanes. I'm not sure why, there's just something about it that throws me off compared to Garrus'. It's less easy to listen too, I guess.
Some great voicework in ME2 universally, really.

I thought BioWare already said that Liara and Kaidan/Ashley will be in ME3... they're definitely alive in everyone's saves, and technically Liara is probably the squadmate considered most important to the plot (told Shepard to go to Ilos and resurrected him/her).
Personally, I much prefer the romance options in ME2. In ME1, there was only one male option, so for a straight FemShep it's either Kaidan or no one.
BW had stated that Liara and Ash/Kaidan were integral to ME3, and that was the reasoning for limiting their involvement in ME2 - since it was a suicide mission.
And, yes, there is a rampant amount of pessimism and negativity prevalent with the ME1 LI fanbase at times. I've never understood it altogether. Yes, my preferred LI was in ME1, but overall, ME2 was a hell of a game, and I prefer it to ME1.
And in other news, my Shepard I made for Garrus is about to save the Citadel in ME1. I'll finally get to see the Garrus romance first hand soon.

Is it just me or did they mess with Thane's voice a little? He didn't sound that way in the demo. I have yet to decide on many things about Thane. His face is cool looking. I still don't know if I like his outfit, or his weird flashback eye thingie, or his voice. I really can't decide.

Okay, I've been thinking. It's safe that to say that ME2 was the "dark chapter" or roadbump in the ME1 romances. Kaidan and Ashley yelled at Shepard and the relationship is over or on hold, and Liara is preocuppied with the Shadowbroker.
1. Do you think there will be something similar for Garrus? Will there be a troubled part of the relationship in ME3, that is overcome later as the story progresses?
2. Should there be? If so, what should it be or what do you see it being? How would you react?

I think some of the advertising/trailers done for ME2 were misleading. I may even say it's possible that they were done before the characters were actually finalized. Thane says that "he doesn't feel anything," but I don't really think this is how Thane was in-game. He's not the most expressive guy, but I never thought not feeling anything was central to his character or anything. Jack was displayed as over-the-top. On the Normandy though, she's rather calm for a supposed "psychopath."Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...

I will though, also say that all of this is quite probably just sensationalist advertising. you need something outrageous or different to attract some people.

As for rocky parts to Garrus' relationship, I may be in the minority but I would love that. I like a pretty hefty amount of angst so long as it doesn't get soapy and so long as it gets to be resolved in pretty good manner. I think old LI showing up could definitely cause some angst especially considering how Garrus seems really surprised that you pick him over the other potential LIs. I think it was ciaweth who said that Garrus would probably be surprised again if you keep him over your old LI. I could see some concern on his part about that. Granted Garrus is really private so I don't see him being confrontational.
Also, I can see him finally snapping if you have been flip-flopping on him. Say you renegade him in ME1 and ME2 and then you go all paragon in ME3. I could see him getting worked up over that or the opposite scenario as well.
If you meet his father, that definitely has the potential to cause angst or a rocky patch.
So does any kind of major anti-human or anti-turian sentiment from people disapproving of your relationship with him. I don't think he would care about getting his own feelings hurt, but I could see him being somewhat concerned about your reputation or about your relationship derailing the mission. If he thought harm to your reputation was making people not take you seriously and therefore be less effective at your job, I think it would bother him.

Yeah, some Russian choir singers have freakishly deep voices. I love it, but at the same time, it makes my throat hurt when I listen to it too much, lol.
Then again, Thane's voice also has that effect on me. I get urges to clear my throat when he speaks.
I haven't actually seen any of the character trailers for ME2 (since I decided to get into the series after the game came out), so I don't know how different they were from how the characters actually turned out .
