Oh, there's some very scary fic out there, no doubt about that.  There's some decent stuff as well.  kglaser has read just about every Garrus fic known to man so she could probably give you some good ideas.  The stuff I like tends to be very risque.  I think there is also a fanficiton thread in Clan Vakarian.

I've wondered how emotive Garrus is compared to all turians.  I get the feeling they are just reserved as a species.  If anything I would kinda expect him to be somewhat emotive compared to other turians.  Most other turians don't seem to get as worked up about things as he does, or if they do they don't show it.  Garrus is fiery.  But he does have the turian tendency to shove his feelings into the background for the good of the mission or the team, especially the softer stuff.  I also think turians might be a lot more expressive than we think they are.  There's lots of times when Garrus' mandibles will give an odd little twitch here or there and I can't help but think "that means something, but I have no idea what."  I've gotten better at reading turian expressions but I think it will always be tough for a human.

Do you think Garrus finds human facial expressions as hard to decipher as we do with turians?

I think it might be hard for him/turians in general. Even though we have a lot of expressions it might be hard to figure out what the meaning behind the actual expression is. I think they can tell apart the very basic ones, like anger and smiling, but for example,  a smile can mean many things. It can be flirty, evil or even sad... On the other hand, turians usually do a lot of public work so they've had their time to "study" different species trough working with them..

Ooo! Do they describe what she looks like at all? Or well...if people don't want spoilers, maybe you could type it in a different coloured font? Or make a spoiler thread on Clan V?

It's not so much that turian expressions are hard to decipher: it's that they're extremely subtle, since the mobility of their face is extremely limited. Overall, I think the only turian expression that I couldn't understand was in one conversation with Pallin, where he was going on about how he didn't trust humans, but he lowered his mandibles, so it looked like he was either grinning or snarling, which didn't fit at all with the way he delivered his line. Other than that, I find that paying extra attention to the tone of their voices and what they actually say helps a lot to decipher their expressions.

By contrast, I think turians could find humans almost too easy to read, provided they were familiar enough with human physical cues. Having worked in C-Sec, Garrus probably had enough contact with humans to know what those cues are. It's just that FemShep isn't very expressive around him either, up until the romance scene, so he doesn't have all that much to go by in her case. And he didn't strike me as being that much more oblivious than a thoroughly friend-zoned human would. The extra surprise I could relate to the species difference. Also, he has good reason to be nervous when she flashes him that "you thinking what I'm thinking?" smirk. Not because he doesn't understand it, but because it really does look like she's planning some machiavellian move.

Actually, I'm really having a hard time, when going to Clan-V since the recent activity of the group displayes latest replies and stuff with partial content. -.- Pretty tough not to catch an accidental glimpse at the book related topics listed there

Oh, right, I forgot. Well, it's good. No suspicious female scouts to steal Garrus from us! B)

I think thats why Stephi did the spoiler thread on Clan V Jane - I don't want to know either - cos in 5-21 days I'm going to have the book in my hot little hands....

Shepard: Garrus, how come we've never seen any female of your race?

Garrus: What do you mean?! Saren was a girl! How could you not notice this?

Shepard: WHAT

And suddenly Kim's world explodes Posted Image

@ Buggirl: Well, maybe there are hints at her physical appearance later in the book, it's just that stephi seemed to be saying that they don't describe her at all when you first meet her.

If there aren't any descriptions, I agree, it would be extremely frustrating Posted Image

He did that in Revelation too. When Anderson meets a female salarian he gives few descriptions, apart from what we already know about salarians in general.

Huh, this raises an interesting question. How open do you guys see the relationship with Garrus becoming? As in how much of this "serious, emotional" stuff would you like to see discussed in ME3?

I think Garrus would eventually confide in Shepard as time went on - but in the beginning of the relationship he would probably not be as open as he can out of belief that he doesn't want to burden or bother her with any of his "problems."
