I can't believe it but I'm actually tearing up thinking about this story and reading this passage. Posted Image

I believe it.  That's a moving story.  Strangely, the part about the hot fudge is what put a lump in my throat.

I think Acceptable Loss was misinterpreted to mean that somehow the loss of Thane was "acceptable" and no big deal.  It didn't feel that way to me.  I can see being sad when reading a fic where Thane dies, though.

Isn't Acceptable Loss also a military term?  I thought of it more that way.
And when reading the story, I think it's been made pretty clear that even near the end, she still loves and misses Thane...she'll never really get over that, even though she's found a way to move on.

The story appealed to me as a Thane fan and a Garrus fan, I didn't find the title insulting to Thane.

Man, what got me in that fic was the bit after the first Garrus/Shep...um...encounter where he opens his eyes and she is CRYING. And he reaches out a hand and she flinches away from him. It's like you can hear his heart break there. And then she just lets him leave without explaining anything to him. That was rough.

Oh, definitely. I would say I'd never be able to play a Shepard who romanced Garrus if our basic values were made out to be diametrically opposed.

And that's the thing: Garrus and a Paragon Shep don't necessarily have opposing basic values. They just have opposing methods and ways of reacting.

Still not as bad as The Hundred Year Distance. That one's a tearjerker. At least Acceptable Losses has a happy ending. Any of you guys read the sequel to Broken Trust? That one is also really rough though I don't think it is finished yet.

The Hundred Year distance yes, very good and a teary but a good ending too - if you understand what I'm talking about (I don't want to give to much away to those who haven't read it) I've not read Broken Trust though. Too little time too many ff to read....

I read it, I hope there will be more, from what I remember it ended with problems needing to be resolved.

You know, Ped, I've been thinking about whacking all those bushes about the periphery down for some time now. Then, where would you hide, huh?:P  And yea, I tend to avoid reading fics that aren't finished yet but sometimes I start before I realize it isn't done and I get sucked into it.  That one did me that way.

And as for expansion for ME2.  I am always up for something like that provided it was of good quality meaning it had significant involvement from all the squaddies.  If it was just a bunch of extra story missions, frankly I'd rather have my hands on ME3 than an expansion that doesn't push the story forward.

I wouldn't mind at all. They can use it to bring us right up to the beginning of ME 3. I would be happy with it.

Just had a quick look - I have read Broken trust - at mass kink - Incredibly well written but because of the OOC actions, I was "uncomfortable" with the story. I'm intersted in the sequel, if just to read skybounds beautiful prose. Anyone know what the sequel is called, anyone anyone?

And at first I thought, that fic was totally OCC, but I could start to kind of see it after a really long while.  Mind, I don't think it would ever actually happen no matter what, but the circumstances she set up for it to happen are about as realistic as one could make that situation ever be.  She did very well given the inherent, uh, improbability of the scenario.

It was downright painful.  And then he eats himself up with guilt over the whole thing. :crying:

Though that blue lighting affect kinda reminds me of a bit in Legion's loyalty mission where he flashes his lightbulb face to illuminate a long corridor that has Heretic databases in it. Anyway, the light lances right in your eyes and if you are sitting in a dark room playing, it can be killer. The first time it happened I wanted Shep to say "Legion, organic etiquette 101. Warn people before you shine a flashlight in their eyes." He's bad about that.

I know he tries to make it out like he's the one responsible.  Garrus can be very self-deprecating at times.  He blames himself for everything.  That was way in character for him.  I love how Shep volunteers to explain herself and he is dying to know the answer but he just says "Well, if you want to, but no pressure."  And she asks him "why no pressure?  Why don't you think you deserve an explanation?"  That author can really nail Garrus.  She picks up on some great nuances there, some of which I had never actively registered like his tendency to blame himself for things.  I think that is a lot of why he is so quiet.  He does not want to be a burden on anybody, he wants to sort out his own demons, and he remains silent even when he really should ask for some help.

I think the lighting is a throwback to some scenes in Blade Runner.  They use it a lot in Mass Effect.

Well-said.  I also thought of it as "turian accountability" from his lifelong "conditioning" showing itself.  Take responsibility for your mistakes (even if it's not been proven that it's your mistake, in this case!).

That's one of my 10 favorite games ever.  (and top 20 films)

P.S.  OK, I suck.  I used to be good at finding things, but I can't find "Broken Trust" or the sequel at EITHER site.  Could someone please put me out of my misery and give me a Broken Trust link please? :pinched:
