Oh, definitely. I would say I'd never be able to play a Shepard who romanced Garrus if our basic values were made out to be diametrically opposed.
Now, a jerk renegade who's just plain mean...I've got one of those, too. and all bets are off! >
For me, one of the biggest reasons why I fell for Garrus already in ME1 was because I was playing a renegade Shepard on my first playtrough (well, with a little touch of paragon). It was the first time I was playing a badass character in a BioWare game EVER. I was expecting everyone to disagree with me all the time, but then there was this Garrus who always seemed to have the same way of thinking with my Shepard. I'd always run straight to him to continue our conversations about getting the job done no matter what, and barking at C-sec and the council which can't do anything right (at least that's how I remember it). It was like they were finishing each other sentences and that really touched me.

Be able to mock both of them was great.
Shooting air quotes at the turian councilor in ME3 ftw.

Hey, Nerjuna, I totally stole you Garrus cowboy pic. Is that okay? If not I will switch to something else.
Sorry about the late reply, I was asleep and doing stuff in real life. Sure that's absolutely fine. That's bit a complement actually for using that pic.
Oh and speaking of pics, here's another I've been cooking up.

Never thought I'd say this being a stunch paragon RP, but when I've first played ME2, I've almost wished I let the council die. The way they dismissed the reaper threat does make me gritted my teeth hard, but then the downside to it is that the Hiarachy wouldn't be too friendly with the Alliance and I prefer to see them having friendly terms with another.
Still, I prefer to kept them alive so I can have the option to do those finger quote gesture back at the turian counseilor in ME3... hopefully

And that "finishing each other's sentences" remark made me realize that the more I study those two, the more I find it apparent that they are made for each other. They just fit so well. <3

I was a sad panda the time I played without council (which is the default option if you begin ME2 without having played ME1) and he said stuff like "We don't like your kind here".

This. While I really don't like how the Council behaves, I also don't want humanity to suddenly act like it owns the place, nor every alien on the Citadel to hate my guts, because I don't actually wish them any harm. So the Council stays alive.

It's not about appreciating the council itself, but all the races that populate the universe.
I wouldn't desire them to live under a human-lead council/government (would it still be called a council if formed ONLY by humanity?).
That would be a dark future even for mankind.

I killed the council because I didn't see the point in sacrificing the lives of so many for only a few! On my current renegade PT I will do it the other way around though!

I've always considered them a symbol rather than just three people.
Maybe I was influenced by the fact I started by playing ME2, and as I said before, there's no council if you begin with ME2.
I've got to say that something that really impressed me was how greatly did the game change just by the fact of having or not having council (and many other lil choices I made in ME1) when I replayed it. It was all I need to definitely fall in love with this game.
(Even though, I think I'll do just the opposite as you, and kill them in my renegade PT, if I ever get the time -and desire- to play it (and to play anything). Usually, whenever I get time to play I keep replaying parts of my mainshep's PT)

paragon thinks of protecting and defending first, she understands that a new council can be founded after that and the lives of many are worth protecting.

That's just the point. Put this into perspective: in order to be accepted within the galactic community, humanity needs to prove that it's willing to make sacrifices for the greater good rather than to put its own safety first and foremost.
But what does killing the Council tell anybody who's watching? Humanity would rather save its own ass at the expense of the existing, firmly established political structure (which, coincidentally, consists solely of aliens and no humans), sacrificing the stability of the Citadel because it thinks it's completely expendable and replaceable. That's not really sending the right message, especially if you then go on to replace the Council by an entirely human one, which is why it's considered as a Renegade choice rather than a Paragon one.

*does a happy chicken dance*
Shepard and Garrus are such a great match! I hope BioWare realizes that too and gives us more Sheprad+Garrus romancing in ME3. I'll be heartbroken if we just get one little Garrus cameo with a couple of words and then continuing like nothing ever happened between them.

I have to tell you about a conversation my son and I had that cracked me up the other day. (You should first know that a while back I let my kids watch that whole Harkin interrogation scene from Garrus's loyalty mission in ME2.) We were in the toy store parking lot, and I noted that I parked a little crooked in the space. My son pretended to be a cop and he said, "Uh, ma'am, I see you parked irregularly, can I see some ID, please?" I said, "Oh, no, officer, I forgot it at home...you're not going to step on my neck, are you?" He said, "No, my partner has convinced me to headbutt you, instead." XD
OK, so it's not what happened in the game, but it still made me laugh. Haha, my kids are dorks like me...I'm so proud!
That's awesome. You're raising a little Garrus
And all that talk about salad dressing. Shut up people! Real badasses eat their salad RAW. Bahahahah.

Oh... really?
As for the Council, I agree wil Nilf. I saved them. Of course I didn't know back then that if you didn't save them, the next Council would be all-human, but I'm happy I did this. I'm sure no matter what you choose (alien/human Council), you'll be able to fight off the Reapers, but I want to be able to say "hey, we did it together!" and then we make a camp fire and sing Kumbaya.
