Minor Retribution spoiler please. When is this book set, before or after ME2?

It's after the events on ME2. That's all I'm saying.

Now I'm interested to see what happens in ME3, thanks to this book. Looks like Shepard and Co will be... having an interesting adventure in a noir way, hopefully.

Edit: Ooooh! Top of the page! Picture time! I've found this oldie.

@Ragabul: It's hard for me to imagine an asari wrestling. xD The krogan would probably beat almost everyone if they were included. MainShep would totally fight Grunt for fun though, training her krogan "little brother."

And now I just imagined Calix doing a krogan headbutt. It involves a biotic jump to even reach the krogan's head.

@kglaser: I'm probably going to leave the team as Tali and Garrus because it works so well, aside from Garrus getting a lot of the quotes on my Tali playthrough. Tali goes on all of the missions, then for the other squadmates - Kaidan got one (Feros), Garrus gets two (Noveria and Therum), and Wrex gets two (Virmire and Ilos/Citadel). It sets a nice balance that all of his friends get to go on missions with him. And I asked here just to make sure that Tali would be the one who speaks up when he's about to kill the rachni queen. Even if Garrus gets all of the other lines, it'll still be a powerful moment. :)

Maybe there are just some missions that certain squadmates take priority. Like Tali speaking up on Feros, which had focus on the geth, and Garrus speaking up on Noveria, with all of its politics and Saren-related stuff.

I don't know, but I'm sure I will hear plenty of "Tali-isms", since I'm going for Quarian Sympathizer this time around. ;)

Question: If I don't have Liara yet, does Garrus (or whoever) still recommend I bring her to Noveria? :?

This seems to be a common theme in many fics:

1) Reach and Flexibility discussed
2) Shepard and Garrus throw down.
3) Garrys pins shepard and realizes she has "interesting" parts.
4) Things get steamy farther down the road.

Just something I noticed.

YAY!  I broke at pattern!

Shepard got her ass kicked for being distracted, things end with both parties confused as all hell.

Well some are just domination fantasies in one:
Garrus uses Mercenary-FU on Shep, pins her down while managing to rub up against some nice parts, then puts her in a very akward hold. This was later in after Kaidan enters the ponce mode so it got a little akward there.

However the fight ended with Shep making some really heavy innuendo and Garrus running away as fast as he could.

I tend to back out of the seedier/racier ones pretty quick.  I don't mind graphic but people just indulging in fantasies doesn't interest me (unless I share the same fantasies which is really rare.)  The one exception is if the fic is well written.  That'll get me to read OCC sometimes.  A lot of times I just skip all the build up and go straight to the smut in the really OCC stuff. Without context, it's hard to make smut OCC.  It's just smut and doesn't have to apologize for being so.  How said smut came to pass is usually where my suspension of disbelief breaks.  Man, this makes me sound like a really nasty person.  Oh well, at least I am in good company.  I know how this thread thinks.  Don't even try to deny it.:P

My copy is in Mail Land. I should get it soon. Avoiding the spoilers until then is hard.

I don't read those kind of fanfics. That's why I don't read that many fanfics at all. xD

I checked the store for Retribution and they didn't have it. I'll check back in a few days or a week.

Our current playthroughs are very similar then. xD Get Quarian Sympathizer, leave Liara until last because she made us restart, and try to remain romance-less until ME2. (And did you do Feros first too? MaleShep's playthrough will go - Feros, Noveria, Virmire, Therum.)

No one recommended it because she's not there. Garrus (in a team of him and Tali) was the one who brought it up last time when she was.

At what point do you think we can discuss Retribution here? 'Cause good Turianness in it.

ETA: Hmm. Taking different countries into account and whatnot, I'm starting to think it's 3-6 months.

Not sure about you guys, but I just don't get it how they managed to write smut without any hang ups? I admit that my mind goes go into the gutter sometimes when reading and imagining... stuff, but writing is a different story for me. One time I was try to write a racy section in one of my fics I'm working on and then I've gave up and left it on hiatus.

That's probably why my fan fic writings are mostly rated T so far.

Also I don't blame you for avoiding fan fic smuts, it's not the racy parts, it's the OOC element that got into me. It's just that it feels funny imagining the characters going OOC while reading it. Hence if I need to read smut, I've prefer to read it as original fiction, at least you don't have to worry about OOC. Instead, I'll be critiquing on the writing instead.

There's a spoiler thread in Clan V Pacifen.  Personally If people want to discuss here I wouldn't mind I would just skip over the posts (yes I do have that much discipline!) but I know others may not want the spoilers.

If I attempted to write smut, I'd just end up in laughing fits and what you get in the end isn't so much smut as it is farce. This is why intimate moments between Garrus and Shepard are sitting on the couch with Shepard propping her legs up on his lap. Hrgh. Wonder what sort of foot massage that would be.... :?

I'll take it to Clan V once I finish the book then. I don't think I've recovered yet from shouting "What about that Qui-Gon dying?" after I left the movie theater during The Phantom Menace premiere.

Same here, but much worse. Usually I'll write of a smutty fluff piece that seem to be normal, then I'll add a twisted cruel end to it, giving the readers a fan diservice. You know, deconstuction of the smut genre.

Btw, it's not a Garrus and Shepard fan fic, heaven forbid if I do something that horrible.

Anyways, Retribution. Looks like I have to hold my tongue for this one. I have a lot of questions and wild mass guessing about it, but not everyone read it, so I guess I'll wait until 6 months later or so I suppose.

Hah, I did something similar to my sister by accident as she was reading LotR. I mentioned the Battle of the Shire and Frodo being alive. Consequently she totally didn't believe the part in the Two Towers where he really looks like he is dead and Sam is going to carry the ring. She about broke my neck.

As for writing smut, I couldn't write smut to save my life. I also can't even write romance in general to save my life. That's one reason I tend to appreciate it when other people can do it.

I don't think its appropriate to tar writers who write smut as people with "hang ups".  I think I was enticed by the challenge of writing something that was smutty but wasn't conventional porn (something that seems ALWAYS to be geared towards men).  Also this was something I had never done before in my writing - in fact you may not believe this but I had never written anything remotely like smut fiction until I played this game.

There certainly OOC elements in some smut fiction - but they occur in T rated fiction too.

Not all spoilers are bad though. Sometimes it's better off to be spoiled in some cases like... uh Breaking Fail... I mean Breaking Dawn. Hearing the horrors someone's account is enough. I don't have the guts and the virtue of patience to sit there and read the cluster purple prose mess with some questionable ethics being thrown around.

As for writing smut and romance, I've applaud them for having the stomach to writing that stuff through without batting an eyelid. It's already hard enough to write a romance story without giggling yourself uncontrollably, which I did in White Rose, but I'm getting better. Let alone smut. Despite the deconstruction of the element in my ardat yakshi fan fic about that racy element, it's still unsettling.

@ Buggirl: Actually what I meant was that I've admire them for being brave enough to write that sort of thing. That is something I need to work on for a while.

I must admit, sharing the story with a signficant other has created quite a bit of mirth in our household!! I'm actually in the throws of writing a T rated fic now and am hanging up my smut writing for a while (although its so damn hard when there is so many awesome turians around).

I'll have to put your fic on my (ever increasing) list Nerjuna. By the way I loved your drawings.

Believe the woman.  She writes good smut.  I can say it from experience.

I don't think you have to spoil the plot for this though.  You can just read reviews.  For instance, I avoided the Last Airbender after seeing its epically bad Rotten Tomatoes score.  That told me everything I needed to know without spoilers.  Of course, once I resolved I didn't care than spoilers didn't matter anymore so I guess it becomes a moot point then.  And even if Retribution sucked that's not really why I am reading it.  To me both ME books were pretty much "meh."  The thing I liked was the expansion of the universe, seeing the inside of the Flotilla or learning about Saren.  As to actual plot and characters I was largely indifferent.  That's the main reason I want to read Retribution.  I just want to retain my ability to discover that data on my own if that makes sense and analyze it myself first without it comes to me via someone else's interpretation.  But yea, I agree once I read the book, I will be quite impatient to discuss it too and will wish other folks would get on with it.

I have 5-15 days till I get my hands on Retribution, can't wait.  I hope its fully loaded with turians, well a least a few good turian characters.  I've tried to not think about the Liara DLC too.

I'm inordinately excited about the Liara DLC.  I'm hoping the lack of release date means it is larger than the other DLC.  Probably it means we will have to wait awhile.  Oh well, I can deal with waiting if I get rewarded with awesome.
